svg black parts
by Dirk Peinelt 09 Jul '14

I have an issue with black-parts in the embedded svg in extensible HTML export. The problem is separated in the attachment. There are some invisible borders with area objects. One of them is shown in black. The pdf export looks fine. Is this a svg export bug or a symbol problem. Have anyone an idea to bypass this, with the same symbol? If the order of the objects will be changed, the black-part is then a another of the area objects. Thanks, /d

Symbol different in legend to survey
by Jenny Black 09 Jul '14

09 Jul '14

Hi, I've notice that the area symbols look to be drawn at a different scale on my map than in the legend. I've attached two screenshots - look at the water (the lines are not the same distance apart) an the clay. This appears to happen only if I use base-scale, the attached images are with: scale 1 500 base-scale 1 200 but if I remove the base-scale line the symbols are the same in the legend and map. Am I using the base-scale option incorrectly, is there some way to tell it to apply that to the legend symbols as well as the map symbols? Or is it a bug? In case it makes a difference, I am using some custom symbols defined in my thconfig file (I found these from previous postings on this list, thank you!) Thanks, Jenny

Aven colour by date and loop error
by Bruce 08 Jul '14

08 Jul '14

I have been envious of Avens ability to colour survey centrelines, not only by elevation, but also by date and loop closure error. Particularly because Therion generated 3d files don't seem to include this information. Is this a feature that could be added to Therion's export model to format .3d without too much effort? Also, I presume that colour by date in Aven refers to 'survey date'. Is colour by 'exploration date' something that has been considered? In a serendipitous world Olly would add this extra bit to Aven (PS I like the new zoom to box feature in 1.2.14 Olly) and then Martin/Stacho would support these features in the export models. ;-) Bruce

Multiple language support
by Stelios Zacharias 08 Jul '14

08 Jul '14

Dear list, Please accept my apologies if this has been covered. Is it currently possible to output map legends and texts in multiple languages on the same document? The attached gives an idea of what I am after. This legend was put together in an image editor, not using Therion's labels. If something does not exist to allow this and if it would not be too tough to implement, perhaps multiple methods of separating the languages (slash, dash, brackets, comma) could be selectable: guano / γκουανό guano - γκουανό guano (γκουανό) guano, γκουανό Greek is great for legends and labels for internal use, but sometimes we want surveys to travel outside the borders as well, and sometimes surveys are the result of international expeditions and it would be nice to have two (or even more - EN/FR/EL, for example) languages on the survey. Keep up the good work! Cheers, Stelios

Therion database web interface
by Bruce 05 Jul '14

05 Jul '14

I am wanting to add some cave databases to the web along the lines of what Andrew describes here http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php/contrib:databasequery I have something working locally based on what Andrew submitted, although their are minor warnings that my system throws up, presumambly due to different system requirements, that I think I can fix. Before I teach myself php, I thought I should ask to see if anyone has developed Andrews code, or something similar, to a more comprehensive extent, and if they have ask if they would share it? Ideas I have are; -more comprehensive result tables -add map awareness, ie debug which surveys have no scraps or no maps of particular projections -debug which surveys have no surveyors or no explorers etc Thanks Bruce

preview above/below in elevation maps?
by Xavier Pennec 16 Jun '14

Does anyone has experience with preview above/below in elevation maps? I use it quite often in plan maps, with the expected behavior, but when I try it in an elevation map, the "previewed" map does not appear at all in my pdf neither with below or above. I am wondering if I missed something in the intended behavior or if there is a bug in my layouts (although it does not work either if I don't load them). wxWidgets 3.0.0
by Olly Betts 14 Jun '14

14 Jun '14

I've been fighting to get loch to work with wxWidgets 3.0.0. The first obstacle is that they now enable __WXDEBUG__ mode by default, so misuses of the API result in warning dialogs popping up. I've attached a patch which fixes that, and updates a couple of places where deprecated methods are used. This doesn't get you a fully working loch though - starting loch and loading a file seems to work OK, *if* loch was compiled with optimisation. Starting loch with a file specified on the command line segfaults in the first call to gluScaleImage() in lxData.cxx, though it works when run under gdb or valgrind, so I guess there is a subtle timing issue (and that this might not happen on all machines). There are also more uses of deprecated methods, most notably using an implicit wxGLContext is now deprecated. I tried to update that one, but things seemed to crash a lot - I suspect the underlying problem noted above needs addressing first. I've been testing on Debian unstable (which has packages of wx 3.0.0). Cheers, Olly

Therion on Debian
by Dave Clucas 13 Jun '14

I’ve tried running Therion on Debian Wheezy but all I get is the Therion status flash which immediately disappears. If I run it under root terminal I get a Segmentation fault. Is this a distribution problem or am I doing something wrong? Dave Clucas daveclucas.com sarawak-caves.com dave.clucas(a)icloud.com Exploring the World - One cave at a time

Displays in the landscape
by Graham Mullan 09 Jun '14

09 Jun '14

Amongst other things, Julian Todd wrote: "The big idea is that we should be able to walk around the landscape holding our big tablet in front of us giving an X-ray view of the cave underneath us. Maybe you could hold it up against the mountain and see all the cave systems inside of it." An excellent idea, but it does remind me of something I sometimes have a problem with in Aven and Loch. If you are viewing a large area model with lots of passage over a wide area, then the picture can get very 'noisy' as you move around. It may be worth giving an option to fade out all the passage more than a given distance away from the view point so that you can concentrate on the stuff nearest to you without getting your view obscured by stuff that is actually some distance away.
