kml color
by Philippe Vernant 25 Oct '25

25 Oct '25

Hi guys, I can’t find a way to change the light greyish color of the kml export except by going into the kml file and change it after it has been created. Is there a way to specify the color when creating the kml ? Thanks, Phil

loch segmentation fault at launch
by Bill Gee 13 Jan '25

13 Jan '25

Testing out Therion 6.2.1+dev, I find that loch does not work. When launched from a command line, it runs for one or two seconds and then gives bgee@main2:~$ loch Segmentation fault (core dumped) bgee@main2:~$ This is on Fedora 41, and it happens on several machines. If it helps any, I captured the core dump file and put it on a server. https://campercaver.net/MiscFiles/lochcore.dump.zip -- =============== Bill Gee

Build a map with all centerline and partial walls
by Bill Gee 27 Nov '24

27 Nov '24

I am looking at this entry in the Wiki: https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/tips#showing_centreline_for_parts_of_a_cave_… My understanding it that this requires making two sets of centerline data, then creating a survey for each set. One of the data sets is for that part of the cave which has walls/scraps and the other is for the remainder of the cave. The thconfig file is set up with only one survey/endsurvey section. I think this also would have to change into two sections. Is this correct? The cave I want to do this for has all centerline data in one big file. It would be a huge pain to separate that into two files. Even more of a pain would be moving the data as sketching is completed. Thanks! -- =============== Bill Gee

Loch on Windows - Release v6.3.1
by Bruce Mutton 24 Nov '24

Thanks Martin V6.3.1 on Windows compiles nicely with XTherion. There is a problem with Loch. Opening the app results in these two errors. Everything else seems OK for now. Bruce

How to draw water area with an island
by Bill Gee 16 Nov '24

16 Nov '24

Is there a way to draw a large area of water, then draw an exclusion or island in the middle of it? I drew some rocks in the middle of a water area. They partially block the water symbol - but not entirely. I drew a border around the island area. If I use either -outline in or -outline out, then the entire area becomes opaque to everything. It is drawn like it is a column. If I do not use the -outline option, then it has no effect at all. I also tried making the island border part of the water area. No change. One way I can think of to do this is to draw the water as two areas, each of which goes half-way around the island. It would work but seems a bit complicated. Suggestions? -- =============== Bill Gee

Okular pdf viewer
by Bruce Mutton 15 Nov '24

15 Nov '24

Bill Thought I'd try Okular, https://okular.kde.org/ since you mentioned it, and since it runs on Windows as well as Linux (and I use Windows). >From my very limited trial of one document. It feels a bit like SumatraPDF, just with a better interface and more capabilities. The rendering times are occasionally fast, but usually about as slow as SumatraPDF, with occasional very long white-out periods on zoom and always poor fill rendering quality. For use with Therion, if a viewer is a bit slow or poor at rendering that does not worry me much. My main reason for choosing a PDF viewer for use with Therion is that it allows Therion to update the pdf file while the viewer has it open. SumatraPDF achieves this on all but the largest of files I have Therion create. Okular fails in this respect with a modest file, with this error - indicates an application has the output file locked. C:\Program Files\Therion\therion.exe: error -- filesystem error: cannot remove: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process [Output/LaghuElevEXT.pdf] writing xtherion file ... done Okular has quite a few settings, so it is possible that changing some of those will remove this limitation. Anyone with insights on this? Bruce

Cannot get offset maps to work
by Bill Gee 13 Nov '24

13 Nov '24

Hello everyone - Most of my recent questions to this list have generated exactly /dev/null for response. I hope this one gets something. I am trying to build a map where one section of underlying passage is drawn offset from the main map. I have done this before and it worked. This time therion is completely ignoring the offset parameters. What am I doing wrong? The portion that I want to offset does get drawn, and it is drawn below as I specified. It just does not get drawn offset. I tried taking the offset out of the list. Therion complained about that. I tried offsetting the other two partial maps, and that does not work. The last time I compiled a map with an offset, I was using therion 6.1.8 on Fedora 38. Now I have 6.2.1+dev on Fedora 41. Did something change between those two versions that affects how this feature works? I attached the .th file to this message. Thanks! -- =============== Bill Gee

Therion fails on Fedora 41
by Bill Gee 09 Nov '24

09 Nov '24

Hello everyone - I have upgraded one of my test machines to Fedora 41. Therion 6.2.0 now fails to run with a complaint that libfmt.so.10 cannot be found. Very true! The fmt package was upgraded to version 11 and the shared library is now libfmt.so.11. I downloaded the latest source code for version 6.2.1 and went to compile it. The compile fails, and I think it is related to fmt. The last few lines from the compile run are listed below. How can I get past this? Thanks! -- =============== Bill Gee [ 57%] Building CXX object CMakeFiles/therion-common.dir/therion.cxx.o In file included from /usr/include/fmt/format.h:41, from /usr/include/fmt/core.h:5, from /home/bgee/Installs/therion-6.2.1/thepsparse.cxx:42: /usr/include/fmt/base.h: In instantiation of ‘static void fmt::v11::detail::value<Context>::format_custom_arg(void*, typename Context::parse_context_type&, Context&) [with T = thdouble; Formatter = fmt::v11::formatter<thdouble>; Context = fmt::v11::context; typename Context::parse_context_type = fmt::v11::basic_format_parse_context<char>]’: /usr/include/fmt/base.h:1383:19: required from ‘fmt::v11::detail::value<Context>::value(T&) [with T = thdouble; Context = fmt::v11::context]’ 1383 | custom.format = format_custom_arg< | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1384 | value_type, typename Context::template formatter_type<value_type>>; | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ /usr/include/fmt/base.h:1647:41: required from ‘constexpr fmt::v11::detail::value<Context> fmt::v11::detail::make_arg(T&) [with bool PACKED = true; Context = fmt::v11::context; T = thdouble; typename std::enable_if<PACKED, int>::type <anonymous> = 0]’ 1647 | return {arg_mapper<Context>().map(val)}; | ^ /usr/include/fmt/base.h:2018:74: required from ‘constexpr fmt::v11::detail::format_arg_store<Context, NUM_ARGS, 0, DESC> fmt::v11::make_format_args(T& ...)
