kml color
by Philippe Vernant 25 Oct '25

Hi guys, I can’t find a way to change the light greyish color of the kml export except by going into the kml file and change it after it has been created. Is there a way to specify the color when creating the kml ? Thanks, Phil

Space between altitude / line
by Yann Gardère 24 Feb '24

Hello therion users when I put the automatic altitude option on a line, the altitude appears too close (tight, stuck, ...) to the line, is there a way to define the distance of the altitude figure from at the line ? thanks Yann

Therion log file truncated prematurely
by Bruce Mutton 20 Feb '24

20 Feb '24

Recently I've noticed some of my therion log files are truncated. They end prematurely. Only happens with some thconfig files and while the location of the truncation is often consistent within each file, it can change with subsequent compile runs as well. Noticed this while trying to debug a presumably unrelated issue. Some examples below. Any insights as to why this might happen? Bruce on Windows 10 Home v 22H2 Another example. therion 6.2.0 (2023-12-21) - using Proj 9.3.0, compiled against 9.3.0 initialization file: C:\Program Files\Therion/therion.ini reading ... done configuration file: thconfig-DwarfsDoor.thc reading ... done reading source files ... done preprocessing database ... done output coordinate system: EPSG:2193 meridian convergence (deg): -0.0685 geomag declinations (deg): 1992.1.1 21.3626 1993.1.1 21.3859 .and the log proceeds normally until a line is truncated mid-sentence. 0.27% 0.4m 146.4m 30 0.2m 0.0m 0.4m [sn45.31(a)118.MiddleEarth - 118.64 - 118.63 - 118.62 - 118.61 - 118.60 - 118.56 - 118.66 - 78.12 = 78.12(a)78.MiddleEarth <mailto:78.12@78.MiddleEarth> - 78.11 - 78.10 - 78.9 - 78.8 - 78.7 - 78.6 - 78.5 - 78.4 - 78.3 - 78.2 - 78.1 - 77.12 = 77.12(a)77.MiddleEarth <mailto:77.12@77.MiddleEarth> - 77.11 In this case some loops are missing and scrap distortions and CRS transformations are missing. But the log file truncation can happen anywhere, as in the screenshot below.

Compilation outcome depends on order of source statements
by Bruce Mutton 05 Feb '24

05 Feb '24

Here is an issue that took me too many days to unravel. The order of source statements in a thconfig affects the outcome of the compilation. I think the problem, or constraint, can be described as: * Multi-line source statements must follow all single line source statements, else not all surveys will not be read correctly, or * Single-line source statements that follow a multi-line source statement will not be read. For example, a thconfig contains: source ./Greenlinkcave/INDEXGreenlink.th source ./swissmaidcave/INDEXSwissMaid.th source #join the two cave surveys without an index file equate 133(a)jp.SwissM I68(a)s.Greenlink equate 156(a)second.SwissM S45(a)ss.Greenlink equate 144(a)jp.SwissM H32(a)h.Greenlink endsource source ./middleearthcave/INDEXMiddleEarth.th source #join the two cave surveys without an index file equate F76(a)f.MiddleEarth F102(a)f2.Greenlink endsource This results in a fatal error: reading source files ... done preprocessing database ... done C:\Program Files\Therion\therion.exe: error -- ./middleearthcave/INDEXMiddleEarth.th [24] -- survey does not exist -- 74 Which confused me because each of these would compile alone an in combination via other thconfig files. If I changed the order of the source statements, the 'non-existent' survey would change. I tried 6.2.0 + fd5c1b6 and 6.17 and 6.13 all with similar effect (although I'm not that confident because the latter two being 32-bit and toggling between the 64-bit 6.2.0 variants results in duplicate therion programs on my Windows machine, thus I'm not sure I have 'clean' installs). Too late, I tried putting all the single line sources first, followed by the multi-line sources, and viola, success. So this seems like a bug, in that I understand Therion should read all sources before processing the survey and map input. With sources, this seems not to be happening, and Therion is crashing inappropriately if the sources are not listed in the 'correct' order. Bruce PS: Yes, I know the example above is a rather messy way of treating sources. I would not usually do this - it is a hack to work around an unfortunate decision made early in the project history.

XVI commands: xth_me_area_adjust etc.
by Rich Smith 03 Feb '24

03 Feb '24

Hi Therion I'm the author of cave surveying app SexyTopo, and I'm trying to write a better Therion exporter. Previously I'd kind of hacked an exporter that did an approximate job, but I'm rewriting it and trying to do a better job. I understand I should generate an XVI file for each projection that represents the sketch. I then need to set this in the th2 file with some commands. For example: ##XTHERION## xth_me_area_adjust -132.0 -156.10532659555793 1768.2371519518056 726.0 ##XTHERION## xth_me_area_zoom_to 100 ##XTHERION## xth_me_image_insert {950.6824683592552 1 1.0} {267.841199967364 5} {blaengwynlais plan.xvi} 0 {} Are these documented anywhere? It seems like xth_me_area_adjust sets the dimensions of the image, and xth_me_image_insert specifies the position and filename, but I'm not clear what all the values represent. Many thanks for any pointers! Rich

station-names []@survey not implemented for point station -from option
by Bruce Mutton 02 Feb '24

02 Feb '24

Kia ora Maybe I found a minor bug. I have an extended elevation that includes a loop (many actually) and of course there is a gap in the loop as rendered that I would like to illustrate with a map-connection line. Where the yellow shading is in the image below, I would like to draw a horizontal map-connection line. So following the guidance in the Therion Book pages 105 and 106 I have created a scrap. scrap 2-HawkesElevEXT-s1connection -projection extended -station-names []@2 point 0 0 station -name 2.4 -from 2.5 point 100 0 station -name 2.4 -from 2.3 line map-connection 0 0 100 0 endline endscrap On creating the scrap and before referencing it in any maps, Therion is unhappy and exits with the following: #################### end of cavern log file #################### done calculating basic statistics ... done processing extended elevation ... done processing references ... C:\Program Files\Therion\therion.exe: error -- string pointer is null writing xtherion file ... done Am using therion 6.2.0+fd5c1b6 (2024-01-10) On experimenting a little, I realised that -station-names has no effect on the -from station parameter. So this was my workaround. scrap 2-HawkesElevEXT-s1connection -projection extended -station-names []@2 point 0 0 station -name 2.4 -from 2.5@2 point 100 0 station -name 2.4 -from 2.3@2 line map-connection 0 0 100 0 endline endscrap I'll create an issue in GitHub.
