DistoX and PocketTopo with Therion
by Bruce Mutton 13 Apr '10

13 Apr '10

Hi there I have a Disto arriving hopefully in a few days, and looking ahead I've been tentatively trialling PocketTopo on my PC. I suspect therein lies my first problem. Perhaps it only has limited functionality on PC's? I can manually enter data, but I can not seem to draw passage outline. The Export Therion format does not seem to produce data in a format similar to what Therion normally accepts - after the data it produces some form of co-ords separated into plan and elevation partitions. Most of the survey stations are converted to 10 digit numbers and all of the keywords are in capitals. Much of the file content could be made Therion compatible relatively easily using a text editor, but surely this is not what is intended? Obviously there is something significant here that I am missing. Have searched about but have not found the solution yet. Does anyone have a small dataset that demonstrates the interaction between PocketTopo and Therion? Bruce

version 5.2.8 uploaded to Debian
by Wookey 01 Oct '09

I uploaded a 5.2.8-1 therion package to Debian last night. Feedback/bugs very welcome. Known issues: 1) texturing on loch has been turned off in order to let it run at all on Intel graphics cards. 2) The wiki snapshot is rather old (same as for 0.5.1 release) - can someone furnish me a new one? 3) My therion svn is broken so it's not checked in yet. seperate layers for surface and sketch images
by Bruce Mutton 15 Sep '09

15 Sep '09

Hi again Getting back to the task of including our existing paper maps in our Therion datasets. We have a large cave, with the existing plans comprising more than 5 overlapping sheets, representing differing regions and levels of the cave. Is any progress planned on separating the sketches from the surface layer in pdf outputs? If so I'd like to put in a request for each sketch to have it's own unique layer, and to support the transparency feature already implemented for passages and the surface. Are there any issues related to this (other than large run durations and file sizes)? Bruce

Loch Makefile
by Martin Luethi 14 Jun '09

Hi There are some weird settings in the Loch Makefile for the VTK variables. It seems that VTKPATH is used to mean VTKINCLUDEPATH, but also for VTKLIBPATH, which causes problems. Here is a better version (only for target Debian) Best, Martin # PLATFORM DEBIAN CXX = c++ CC = gcc POBJECTS = lxR2P.o VTKPATH = /usr/local VTKINCLUDEPATH = $(VTKPATH)/include/vtk-5.2 VTKLIBPATH = $(VTKPATH)/lib/vtk-5.2 VTKLIBS = -lvtkHybrid -lvtkImaging -lvtkIO -lvtkGraphics -lvtkFiltering -lvtkCommon -lfreetype CXXPFLAGS = -DLXLINUX $(shell wx-config --cxxflags) -Wno-deprecated $(shell freetype-config --cflags) -I$(VTKINCLUDEPATH) CCPFLAGS = -DLXLINUX $(shell wx-config --cflags) LXLIBDIR = linux PLIBS = $(shell wx-config --libs --gl-libs) -L$(VTKLIBPATH) $(VTKLIBS) -lGLU -lpthread -lz LXPLATFORM = LINUX

How to compile without Loch
by Bill Gee 10 Jun '09

10 Jun '09

Hello everyone - I have been struggling for two days trying to get Therion 5.2 (stable) to compile on my brand new CentOS 5.3 system. The dependencies are killing me! CentOS repositories do not include any VTK packages, so I had to build VTK 5.4 from source. That brought its own set of dependencies - I had to compile CMake from source before I could compile VTK! Sheesh!!! This is ridiculous ... Anyhow, the message I am stuck on now comes from "make install" of Therion. It appears to be related to some missing piece of VTK. Can anyone shed some light on how I deal with this? ============== c++ -o loch -Wall lxR2P.o lxTR.o lxOGLFT.o lxSetup.o lxRender.o lxWX.o lxImgIO.o lxLRUD.o lxFile.o lxData.o lxMath.o lxSView.o lxSScene.o lxGUI.o lxGLCo.o lxGLCs.o lxOptDlg.o lxAboutDlg.o img.o -lwx_gtk2u_gl-2.8 -pthread -lwx_gtk2u_richtex t-2.8 -lwx_gtk2u_aui-2.8 -lwx_gtk2u_xrc-2.8 -lwx_gtk2u_qa-2.8 -lwx_gtk2u_html-2. lwx_gtk2u_adv-2.8 -lwx_gtk2u_core-2.8 -lwx_baseu_xml-2.8 -lwx_baseu_net-2.8 - lwx_baseu-2.8 -L/usr/include/vtk-5.0/lib/vtk -lvtkHybrid -lvtkImaging -lvtkIO - lvtkGraphics -lvtkFiltering -lvtkCommon -lfreetype -lpthread -lz -s /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lvtkHybrid collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[1]: *** [loch] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory `/Installs/therion/loch' make: *** [loch/loch] Error 2 =============== Searching the system for files like "vtkHybrid*" finds vtkHybrid.CMake in the source directory for VTK. I don't find anything else on the system. At the end Therion is not installed. I don't need Loch. Is there a directive for make to tell it to ignore Loch? Thanks - Bill Gee

sketch + xvi
by Vasily Vl. Suhachev 30 May '09

Hello, All. XTherion have ability to transparent display the xvi over sketch image. How to bring sketch and xvi to same scale to combine it in XTherion? Now I iterative pick up scale of image in graphic editor, but it is very tedious... PS: Sketches is drawn "in scale", and scaned at 200 or 300 dpi -- WBR, Vasily 31 мая 2009 г.

Bitmap calibration
by mara 12 May '09

12 May '09

Hi, I am having some trouble in calibrating a bitmap image to be used as surface layer. I believe this is quite a basic problem but I havn't find anything in the archives. I need to insert data of 2 different points, so entrance of the cave is 0 0 and I can get the relevant bitmap pixels data from a software like Microsoft Paint. Now, the question is how should I get the data for the second point? I have no knowledge of where the stations are compared to the surface. Sorry but I'm really new to coordinates, GIS and all this stuff....and wonder how to proceed. And also, to make sure the scale is correct I should just export tha map with same scale as the surface map scanned, is this correct or I am missing something? thanks a lot for yr help Best Andrea Arriva Tiscali Mobile! Disto-X Callibration
by Bruce Mutton 07 May '09

07 May '09

I feel a little bit foolish, just discovered the Calibration section in the pocket topo manual - I had been looking for this stuff in the calibration manual and not the pocket topo manual - it solves much of the mystery about the meaning of values obtained from the calibration calculations. My Disto-X is still misbehaving, but at least I can now interpret and manipulate the results myself. Bruce
