Hi again Getting back to the task of including our existing paper maps in our Therion datasets. We have a large cave, with the existing plans comprising more than 5 overlapping sheets, representing differing regions and levels of the cave. Is any progress planned on separating the sketches from the surface layer in pdf outputs? If so I'd like to put in a request for each sketch to have it's own unique layer, and to support the transparency feature already implemented for passages and the surface. Are there any issues related to this (other than large run durations and file sizes)? Bruce
Hi all I am looking to try and generate an output which will always have the same co-ordinates. I am try to do this as we have a rapidly expanding cave system which we would like to plot on google earth (or the likes) using Bill Chadwicks map of the Mendips http://www.bdcc.co.uk/mendip.html Now after consulting with Bill it appears if we predifine the size of the plot the crunching, just becomes computer power, so we can update then map as data comes in, full instructions are at http://www.bdcc.co.uk/GoogleCrunch/Crunch.htm Any hints welcome, one idea I have had is to use a 'blank' bit map as a surface, does it always displace the whole surface? This is something that I am having dificulty understanding the instructions for thanks Andrew PS as soon as we fix the corners we will go back to the old fashiones paper problem of going off the sides....
I am looking to try and generate an output which will always have the same co-ordinates.
Andrew I would just define two stations at extreme diagonal corners of the area you want. Give them fixed co-ordinates and you are done. Give them their own survey.th, .th2 file, map definition and you're done. Bruce
Excellent suggestion, and using the scrap -stations [stn1 stn2...] you do not even need to draw anything thanks Andrew Bruce Mutton wrote:

You could use KML export which can be loaded directly into google earth. If you need to use bitmap output, PDF maps contain georeferencing information (for nine points) as a comment. XTherion can use it to produce PNG image + MAP Ozi explorer-like calibration file (Help -> Calibrate bitmap). If your software doesn't load MAP files directly, you would need to write some simple conversion script. Martin
Hello in layout using colour map-fg 0 all the maps come out black and you can control the colour you can get different coloured maps using colour map-fg map But is there a way to control the colour of each map? Ie I am trying to hi light one map (section of cave) in red and colour the rest in black thanks Andrew
Unfortunately, this feature is only in the TODO list :( A lot of people are asking for it, so it looks it is time to implement it. Regards, S. On Wed, May 13, 2009 at 10:20 AM, Andrew Atkinson <andrew@wotcc.org.uk> wrote:

Also probably to do with the simplicity of google earth etc, some of the colours just do not work very well, I look forward to it been added, save me time putting it into another program and re-colouring thanks Andrew Stacho Mudrak wrote:

Yes, controling the scrap/maps colors would be a great feature! I need it to do some summary maps of a complex system. Another feature that would be great is the warping of th2 elements. Here is my problem: so far I draw elevation maps at azimut 135 because that seemed to be the main direction of the cave. Now, the last explorations reveal that the main axis is at 120 degrees. So I would like to redraw all my elevations at this new axis. Changing the elevation axis in the scrap descriptions does warp my old th2 drawings to fit the new projection axis, but there are always features that needs to be adjusted and it is difficult to anticipate the result of the warp. I would like to be able to save the warped points/lines/areas in a new file and then edit this new drawing which will have no distortion. Is that a feature that could be investigated? Yes, I've been in the same position, but assumed that this feature would be too much to ask for. If there are side passages running towards or away from the projection angle, they tend to get turned inside out when they flip from 'running slightly left' to 'running slightly right'. Still, most passages will be OK. It would be nice though. When I first used Therion I tried to use the same elevation drawing for both a projected elevation and an extended elevation. Before I understood that this was not the intended functionality of Therion. The results were so so. A bit of distortion here and there as you can imagine. Xavier's idea would not make this possible, but would ease the process of drawing the second elevation based on the first. Bruce
Hi, if Iwould get some Lists of our cave, I have tried to make it with export servey-list it has worked - I have got a file named table.html with the Informations in it as a table. next I would have a list of all station points to I have taken export continuation-list (before I have deleted the first "table.html") - I have got a file named table.html but without any content - ????? I have investigated in the Therion-Wiki. But i have found nothing about that problem. Please let me know, how I get a list with all station-points. Or if I need the name of the deepest point in my survey? regards and thanks Markus

The continuation-list produces a list of going leads or continuations only if you have explicitly defined them in your data. If there are none defined, the file will be empty.
Please let me know, how I get a list with all station-points. Or if I need the name of the deepest point in my survey?
This requires a database export (see below) and then you need to use your sql expertise to extract station co-ords or other interesting information from the file produced. I am not good at this so perhaps someone else can explain. The syntax I use for textual outputs is similar to that below... Bruce #!SURVEY LIST EXPORT export survey-list -output Output/Late08Series_Surveys.html #!CONTINUATION LIST EXPORT export continuation-list -output Output/Late08Series_Continuations.html #!CAVE LIST EXPORT export cave-list -output Output/Late08Series_Caves.html \ -location on #!DATABASE EXPORT export database -output Output/Late08Series_Database.sql
I'm wondering why there is no simpler way for doing this... (a .csl file would be easy to produce ?) Anyway, the SQL export is there, and there are certainly many non-SQL experts that would like to exploit the exported database... Is there anyone that would already have implemented some simple interface to the database (e.g. PhP-mySQL), and that could share this code ?? Bruce Mutton wrote:

Export model in survex format export model -o stations.3d and use 3dtopos survex utility to convert 3d file to text file with station coordinates.
Or if I need the name of the deepest point in my survey?
If you run your project from xtherion compiler, click on the survey in the "Survey structure" tree and in the "Survey info" panel, there is displayed vertical range with station names. Something like: vertical range: 386.42m (from 2@monum.dur_dom.jsv.dumbier at 1720.84m to 5@P2c.P2.dumbier at 1334.42m) We would like to integrate queries on the database directly to therion, but it will take some time. Regards, S.
I am using therion with servex 3d files using the command import GB.3d -surveys use -cs EPSG:27700 -calibrate [0 0 0 300000 100000 0] Which works fine, and generating the 3d file to check, using export model -fmt survex -o GBth.3d in the configuration file gives the same co-ordinates (with the displacement added for the national grid) as the original survex 3d file, however generating the kml file and looking at it on google earth, the entrance has moved 90 metres on a heading of 078 degrees (and I assume the rest of the cave) I have no idea where to look to fix this! Thanks Andrew (The file extern/proj4/nad/epsg gave 3 results when searched for OSGB and I have to say I did not understand the contents of the file, but got three search results gave 2 numbers that I hope are the ones to use 4277 and 27700 I went for 27700 as http://www.dnf.org/Pages/registry/CRS.asp#ETRS89 has 27700 but this is the SRID and also EPSG OP 19916 further down? trying 4277 crashes my machine with a memory unaddressable error)

EPSG:27700 included in therion does not define datum shift between Airy and WGS84 ellipsoids. We will update proj4 library for the next snapshot.

Could you send some minimal data example + platform description? Martin

This feature has been at last implemented in 5.2.12.

Currently sketches belong to the same layer as corresponding scrap. Passage transparency setting should apply to them in PDF export. M.
