How to extract the length of each centerline ?
by Xavier Robert 05 Jun '12

Hi all, I am still working on the survey of the Jean-Bernard system in the French Alps. I have a bunch of different centerlines series, and I need to extract the length of each centerline to link them to the history of the exploration/surveying. I understood how to export the SQL database of the cave system, however, as I do not know at all how to deal with SQL databases, I wondering if there is there an easy way to extract this information with a command similar to "export survey-list" ? The best will be an output like "centerline_ID - Station_first - Station_last - Centerline_length - Topo_date" ! Cheers, Xavier

lat-long coordinate system not supported for output in export cave-list
by Xavier Pennec 29 May '12

In the version 5.3.9 of therion, I get the following error: \Program Files (x86)\Therion\therion.exe: error -- HierleGeneral_thconfig.th [127] -- lat-long coordinate system not supported for output when I try to export entrance coordinates in lat-long format: cs lat-long export cave-list -o Topos/Coordonnees.html -location on Is there any reason why this should not work? That would be really usefull to point the coordinates of the entrances in google earth as they are not exported in kml files. It seems to me that it was working in previous version. Vertical issue
by cawa sorix 23 May '12

Hi all, This is my first message on this list. I try to user therion with the linux version. I can generate a topo and a 3d model now with wiki help. But I have an issue with vertical and I don't find anything on the wiki or the mailing list archive to solve it. I try to realise a topo with vertical and on all vertical I have a figure there are nothing to do here. I will try to explain my trouble: If I put -90° or +90° I have a new rectangle on the result if I try with -89° the rectangle disappear. With -90° see the result at this address http://i.imgur.com/AinzN.png survey main -title "Test cave" survey first centreline data normal from to length compass clino left right up down P0 0 0.00 0.00 0.00 0.60 0.30 0.00 1.00 0 1 10.50 70.00 -66.00 1.00 0.50 1.00 3.50 1 2 7.50 70.00 -90.00 0.30 1.00 3.00 0.00 2 3 1.15 70.00 0.00 0.30 1.10 0.00 0.50 3 4 2.30 70.00 -34.00 0.00 1.50 1.50 1.25 4 5 1.00 70.00 -90.00 0.30 1.30 6.25 0.00 5 6 2.90 70.00 -1.00 0.60 1.00 1.00 2.00 endcentreline endsurvey endsurvey The same with -89° data normal from to length compass clino left right up down P0 0 0.00 0.00 0.00 0.60 0.30 0.00 1.00 0 1 10.50 70.00 -66.00 1.00 0.50 1.00 3.50 1 2 7.50 70.00 -89.00 0.30 1.00 3.00 0.00 2 3 1.15 70.00 0.00 0.30 1.10 0.00 0.50 3 4 2.30 70.00 -34.00 0.00 1.50 1.50 1.25 4 5 1.00 70.00 -89.00 0.30 1.30 6.25 0.00 5 6 2.90 70.00 -1.00 0.60 1.00 1.00 2.00 endcentreline endsurvey endsurvey I don't know if it is clear or not, I'm sorry for my english. vthreshold
by Andrew Atkinson 20 May '12

20 May '12

Hello Just been play with a feature I have not used before. First It would be clearer if on p20 of the thbook the paragraph under vthreshold If passages are _more_or_less_ vertical (inclination > vthreshold), even UD becomes perpendicular to the shot – otherwise passages would not look very good. The 'more or less' is very confusing It would read better if it read If passages are _about_ vertical (inclination > vthreshold), even UD becomes perpendicular to the shot – otherwise passages would not look very good. Also In some passages NSEW is not not always the best way to measure passages, rifts on the like. So for some I have dimensions measured as NW SE NE SW, possible allowing an ofset for vthreshold would be a way of solving this. eg vthreshold-offset 45 degree Just a thought for the future. thanks Andrew

Wall visibility affecting lox model
by Footleg 15 May '12

15 May '12

A curious thing I just discovered. One of my scraps was not showing the walls properly in the lox model. The cause was one wall line being set to invisible using the syntax: line wall:invisible If I changed this to: line wall -visibility off Now the lox model looks fine. I would have expected both these ways of hiding a wall line in the PDF would be processed the same way (both look the same in the PDF). But clearly something different is happening in the lox model. elevations on bearings
by John Stevens 14 May '12

14 May '12

I have produced a section on a bearing using export map -proj [elevation 075 deg] abc.xvi Using this I have created sections across a cave showing passages at different levels along a sectional line. These sections are scraps es1 es2 es3 and create a map map es es1 es2 es3 endmap export map -proj [elevation 075 deg] abc.pdf export map -proj elevation abcd.pdf But when this map is selected and a pdf is created, all is produces is a pdf version of the xvi file (abc.pdf,)(but not drawn sections just the centrelines/splays) or an extended section but not on the bearing abcd.pdf. (ie the sections are produced but not in the correct places) I have tried changing the scrap projection settings to no avail. Any ideas

Join seeks out walls or outlines?
by Bruce 14 May '12

14 May '12

Further to our conversations on the special properties of walls. Just to clarify my understanding of what it is that makes them different to other lines; 1. by default have -outline out set, and so define the boundaries of a scrap 2. by default have -clip on set, and so some symbols are clipped at the wall 3. have their own special subtypes, and altitude labelling, that are not available to other lines 4. are used by the scrap join algorithm to decide which lines to join I'd like to check that last one, which is as described in the Therion Book pg 30. However, is it really the wall line-type that the join scrap1 scrap2 7 statement uses to decide how to join the 7 passages that connect scrap 1 with scrap 2. Or is it the -outline in/out property of the lines that the join statement reacts to? (as could almost implied from outline definition pg 28 of Therion Book) This has implications if one joins scraps rather a lot. Bruce

wall + loch
by Marco Corvi 13 May '12

played with footleg example, stripped down even further. looks like the issue has something to do with pit outline in touching the wall (no outline spec). might be a bug with loch or lox export. must leave this to stacho&martin. marco
