Therion's Loch features (incognito) on NZ TV
by Bruce 19 Oct '15

Loch model of 39 km cave features in this TV news clip at 3:47 (Me carrying two packs on the opening still, and stuck at 2:00) http://www.3news.co.nz/Deepest-cave-discovered-in-our-backyard/tabid/817/art icleID/330973/Default.aspx Centreline data has been processed for the last few(?) decades with a home-made unix application that uses proprietary routines, so will only live while Jonathan is with his current employer. As you might have guessed, an 'export to Therion' routine is being worked on. Bruce

Therion hanging after compile
by Jenny Black 13 Jan '15

13 Jan '15

Hi, When I compile therion, it appears to compile fine (assuming I haven't made a mistake!), and the green button on the right changes to green, and says "OK", but then it will hang. It is still running, and using lots of CPU, but I cant do anything with it without killing it. This happens either if I compile by hitting F9, or pressing the "compile" button. The same thing happens if I make a mistake and it doesn't compile, but gives me a red "Error" button. When I restart therion, and load back in my files everything works as expected... until I compile it again. I am running therion from debian (unstable) package 5.3.14-1, but I think this also happened in the previous version. Thanks, Jenny ___ Re-sending this message a week later as it didn't appear to reach the list (though i got no bounce message), apologies if you get it twice.

Compiling Therion projects from Notepad++
by Footleg 08 Jan '15

I find having multiple thconfig files open so I can compile different parts of my large cave system project very useful. So I was investgating how to run Therion from Notepad++ (my preferred text editor). This is how I got it working: I wrote a 2 line batch file containing these commands: cd %1 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Therion\therion.exe" %2 Saved to somewhere on disk, and then call it from Notepad++ using the Run command, as follows: On the Run menu in Notepad++, Select the 'Run' item, and enter the command as follows: "C:\Personal\Caving\Therion\compileTherion.bat" "$(CURRENT_DIRECTORY)" "$(FILE_NAME)" (But using the path to where you saved your batch file). Save the command (I called it 'Compile Therion' and gave it the shortcut CTRL+T). Now with any thconfig file open in a tab in Notepad++, I can compile that project by pressing CTRL+T, or by selecting 'Compile Therion' from the Run menu. You can create multiple thconfig files in the same folder on Windows, by giving them any filename you want with the extension .thc or give them no extension at all. That way all the files will be listed in the 'Open File' dialog from the compile tab in xTherion. Next I'll see if I can get my batch file to open the output PDF automatically in Foxit Reader :) But that will be less general because I need to pick a PDF filename which can vary between my thconfig files. Languages in team member names

So, no ideas about this one? :) Don't know if it is a bug or an error in my usage, but it is a bit annoying to not be able to change team names in different languages like other texts :) Vladimir ----- Well, maybe I'm not trying it correctly, but it still doesn't work for me. What you suggest works for "-text", "-title" and other options, but not for the "team" section of the "centerline". The syntax below centreline team "Name EnglishName Bulgarian" produces "Name English.lang:bg.Name Bulgarian" on the map instead of selecting the default or the BG text. Vladimir ----- Цитат от Martin Sluka (martinsluka at mac.com) на 20.11.2014 в 12:38 ----- th2: label: label -text "no lang. selected perspektívne pokračovanie do ''ementálu'' promising continuation to labyrinth vazhdime të mundshme të ngatëruara" thconfig/layout language sk language sk/en_UK/sq It should work m.s. 19. 11. 2014 v 17:08, vladimirg at mail.bg [1]: Hi Is there a way to include names of team members in different languages? Bug !?
by Torsten Schnitter 21 Nov '14

21 Nov '14

Hi I'm using Therion 5.3.15 on Windows 7 (64bit). While inserting different things in a .th2 file using the map editor I get very often thinks like: "point 2428.8199999999997 1966.990000000000..." But not all point are in this format. Some of them are in a "normal" 2 decimals form. May be there is a little bug rounding these numbers!? Not really an issue as it works but just as an information... Torsten

Multiple elevation maps
by Bill Gee 20 Nov '14

20 Nov '14

Hello everyone - I am working on a map where the cave makes a T-junction. I have an elevation working for the passage from the entrance to the junction. Now I want to make a NEW elevation map for each arm of the T. I think the secret I am missing is how to specify the scraps to be included in a specific layout. I included sections of the thconfig and main.th file below. The output I get is two identical elevation maps which include all of the elevation scraps. What I want is two (or more) elevation maps each of which includes only a few scraps. The main map will then include each of the elevation maps as "map-image" lines. These will go in different positions so they match up to the portion of the plan they illustrate. Looking through the Therion Book, I see that scraps can have an index (page 20). Do I need to assign different indexes to the scraps depending on which elevation they go with? Thanks - Bill Gee >From the .th file: ################### # Plan map joins join Entrance1 EntranceConnector join EntranceConnector Entrance2 join Entrance2 TJunction1 join TJunction1 TJunction2 join TJunction2 TJunction3 # Profile map joins - Entrance passage join Elevation1 Elevation2 join Elevation2 Elevation3 join Elevation3 Elevation4 join Elevation4 Elevation5 join Elevation5 Elevation6 #Profile map joins - C side passage join ElevationB1-C2 ElevationC2-C5 ################## >From the thconfig file: ################## # This layout is for the elevation profile layout profilemap units imperial scale 1 200 color map-fg [90 66 46] legend off symbol-set UIS map-header 0 0 off endlayout # This layout is for the elevation profile layout profilemap2 units imperial scale 1 200 color map-fg [90 66 46] legend off symbol-set UIS map-header 0 0 off endlayout # Entrance passage elevations export map -proj elevation -layout profilemap -o MillCreekCaveElevation.pdf # C side passage elevations export map -proj elevation -layout profilemap2 -o MillCreekCaveElevation2.pdf export map -proj plan -layout mainmap -o MillCreekCave.pdf ##################

Cleaning up folders and temp files
by vladimirg＠mail.bg 16 Nov '14

Hi After I compile a project I end up with several files that I don't need like: .xtherion.dat - don't know what it is therion.log and a couple of temp PDFs that I compile and then merge into a final PDF that contains both plan and elevation Is there a way to delete all of those or at least prevent therion from generating them? I don't really look at the therion.log file. In the examples I see commands like: #!CLEAN rabbit.lox rabbit-plan.pdf rabbit-xelev.pdf but it doesn't seem to do anything and uncommenting it causes an error. Metapost code for pendant and stromatolite symbols
by Bill Gee 11 Nov '14

11 Nov '14

Hello everyone - I need to put some pendants and stromatolites on a map. I do not see these symbols in Therion. Has anyone already done the Metapost code for them? The symbol for a pendant looks sort of like the Greek letter upsilon, except it has rounded corners instead of sharp. Attached is a bit of the sketch I am working from which shows the pendant symbol. Thanks - Bill Gee

How to include Metapost code from outside files
by Bill Gee 11 Nov '14

11 Nov '14

Hello everyone - I have quite a bit of Metapost code for custom symbols. Rather than repeat several hundred lines in every layout/endlayout pair, I would like to put the code in its own file and then <include> that file in the thconfig file. How is that done? I tried using both "input sourcefile" and "source sourcefile". The same error comes up for both. Text below. According to the Therion Book, the only valid place for code/endcode pairs is inside a layout/endlayout pair. Is that true? Thanks - Bill Gee ============= therion 5.3.13 initialization file: /usr/local/etc/therion.ini reading ... done configuration file: thconfig reading ... therion: error -- thconfig [14] -- thconfig [14] -- unknown option -- input CustomSymbolsCode.txt writing xtherion file ... done therion 5.3.13 initialization file: /usr/local/etc/therion.ini reading ... done configuration file: thconfig reading ... therion: error -- thconfig [14] -- thconfig [14] -- unknown option -- source CustomSymbolsCode.txt writing xtherion file ... done
