Segfault when including survey data in plan
by Wookey 17 Feb '05

17 Feb '05

I noted the bit in the map defiition which says I can can include names of surveys in the map command so that the centrelines are drawn. I tried this with the terikan survey and therion just says 'error' in the compiler and doesn't say what. Running Therion standalone shows that it is segfaulting. You should be able to demonstrate this with the dataset I uploaded last night. Comment out the join soundrivercrab_s1 soundriver2_s1 line so it runs, then add the name of a survey (I tried 'river' and 'goon') to theend of the scrap list. Now it crashes. I noticed the bit about -projection being required 'if the map contains survey', but adding "-projection plan" to the map command didn't help. This looks like a bug. And is there some subtlty about adding surveys (centrelines) to maps? therion protractor
by Carlos Henrique Grohmann 01 Feb '05

01 Feb '05

Hello, I'm a geologist/speleologist in Brazil. I find the Therion Protractor in the www and find it very useful, but here we use more often a 1:400 scale. I have printed the protractor at 50% of the original size, but the results were not so good, so I was thining if you could send me a vetorial version of it (in degrees), either in SVG, CDR,WMF or any other format. thank you so much cheers Carlos Grohmann - Guano -- +----------------------------------------------------------+ Carlos Henrique Grohmann - Guano Geologist M.Sc - Doctorate Student at IGc-USP - Brazil Linux User #89721 - guano at usp dot br +----------------------------------------------------------+

Compilation Problems...
by Thierry GONON 26 Jan '05

26 Jan '05

Hello, I'm working on Mac OSX (previously working with Toporobot and intended to find another software, to compare...) and I've found Therion this week... So I've downloaded the sources to compile them, but during the make install procedure, the Terminal answered : I don't know what are the two --symbolic : file or directory?? Do I have to create them, as I do for the Therion and Xtherion directories?? Thank you very much, and enjoy caving!! Thierry GONON 2 Place de l'Eglise 01150 LAGNIEU FRANCE

SVG output from therion
by John Pybus 25 Jan '05

25 Jan '05

Hi, I've been investigating what it would take to get therion to produce SVG maps. I'm not too interested in replacing pdftex to produce atlases: output in pdf seems fine for that, but I find it hard to successfully convert pdfs with transparency into something I can edit and add into larger posters/publications. I note that tunnelX have recently acquired an SVG output module, but then they have it easy rendering through the Java2D API as they can just plug in Batik. Looking at the 0.3.5 sources I'd originally though that the output of metapost was used by pdftex, but I see that you parse the PS and write your own pdf fragments. Since SVG uses exactly same rendering model as pdf it should be easy enough to adapt this to produce SVG fragments also. With these, replacing pdftex for the job of stitching the fragments together into a map should be feasible. Do the developers have any comments on this? If it seems sensible to you then I'll have a go at an svg version of thconvert.cxx when I get some free time. Also, do you have a CVS/svn repository for the code? If so, would it be possible for that to be exposed read-only? I hate developing against point releases when I know that a project is still undergoing such active development. Cheers, John

string list
by Roman Muñoz 25 Jan '05

25 Jan '05

Could you give me a list of strings to translate user interface? I started editing files in xtherion directory just for fun; after the first rush, I can see aprox 60% of my user interface in spanish. However, I'm getting some nasty errors about bad index entries because I feared to touch some things not marked label or text. I'm not a coder and this is the first time I see Tcl code. Fixed the first four or five errors, but detected others, and got a beautiful freeze just now. Expended more time debugging than translating. Regards, Roman

by Roman Muñoz 22 Jan '05

22 Jan '05

Hi After some playing with Therion, I'm quite happy... Now I'm considering to translate it to spanish... Question is: in the texts_es.txt file should I do therion: point station:temporary es: punto estacion:temporal (i e translating all words) or therion: point station:temporary es: point estacion:temporal Cheers Roman

Hi, Here is the translated file. I observed there is no spanish translation in UIS symbols site, so I worked with some freedom, i,e on flute's case, which seems to be referred to 3 different things (marmitas (pits worked on rivers by pebbles), cupola (dome on the ceil) and channels For all those things about wiki, etc, please give me some time to get used with therion :) Cheers, Roman therion: point station:temporary es: estación Adding sections error
by Andrew Atkinson 18 Jan '05

18 Jan '05

Just been trying to add sections to my plans, happily doing it until it decided to stop working, I cannot see what difference I have done. Whenever I try to put a point in to display sectB I get an error that starts off like the insert below. sectA, section1, section2, section3 seem to have worked fine, even discovered that you can use the scale points to rotate the sections, however this may not be the best method. START ERROR MESSAGE ! Inconsistent equation (off by 29.83728). <to be read again> ; <for(1)> ...z1,zz2])>0.1pt):zz5=whatever[zz1,zz2]; (zz3-zz5)=whatever*(zz1-zz... l_section->...z2--zz6;else:draw.zz1--zz2;fi;endfor ;for.pnt=(TEXT1):if.pnt=-1... l.3292 ),0,4) ; The equation I just read contradicts what was said before. But don't worry; continue and I'll just ignore it. ! Inconsistent equation (off by -22.96272). <to be read again> END THE ERROR MESSAGE While I am writing this email, I have a few clarification points pit-ent (not in this data set) seems to be displayed as a normal pit, not with the double line round it. The scaling of sections is very tedious, would there be anyway to make the default scale the same as the plan if it was in the same th2 file. The above error arose when adding sections, but I could not identify which one, the only thing I could do was to remove them all and then go back and add them one at a time until I found the mistake. As above is there a better way to rotate the sections if they have not been drawn on the original plan. Andrew
