Hi, I'm missing (in Linux) the model viewer available on windows Is this rigth? If yes, what coul I use to view models? Thanks, Roman
You need a special extension to Tcl to view therion models. It is a modified version of tom package, and it is present at therion/thtom directory. Running cd thtom/linux make should compile this extension, then copying Tom0.2 to /usr/lib/tk8.4 should enable this extension to Tk and model viewer will be automatically activated next time xtherion is started. Thanks, I missed it on thbook.pdf (oops) But ... tatel@ganbo:~/src/therion/thtom/linux$ make gcc -Wall -s -DGL12 -I/usr/X11R6/include -DIMLIB2 -c -o Tom0.2/tom.o ../src/tom.c In file included from ../src/tom.c:3: ../src/tom.h:4: tcl.h: No such file or directory ../src/tom.h:5: tk.h: No such file or directory ../src/tom.h:13: GL/glx.h: No such file or directory ../src/tom.h:15: GL/gl.h: No such file or directory ../src/tom.h:16: GL/glu.h: No such file or directory make: *** [Tom0.2/tom.o] Error 1 Regards, Roman On Tue, 18 Jan 2005 15:25:01 +0100 Stacho Mudrak <s.m@speleo.sk> wrote:

The debian version does not currently build this stuff (and I think you are using that, right?). It needs the tcltom library (which is in the therion sources), but I decided to make it a separate Debian package and haven't finished packaging it yet. If you get the build working do please send me the details so I can do a proper upload. Although Stacho has said that he is changing the approach anyway to export VRML and use a dedicated viewer, I think. No, he's built from source on debian (presumably because your packages don't work with woody/stable). Roman: it sounds like you don't have the relevant -dev packages installed for tcl, tk, opengl, etc. Cheers, Olly
Yes, I do use debian woody. But I'm not sure about what "debian version" means. I'm building from therion-0.3.5.tar.gz So I'm not using any "debian version", right? However, I can't find tcltom in the sources. Where is it? I used to do ./configure --with-tcl-includes=/usr/include/tcl8.4 to get tcl.h but since there were no ./configure I was feeling a little bit lost. I copied tcl.h to thtom source. Don't worked. Now I'm feeling like a monkey at the center of the Sahara ;-) Cheers, Roman Roman On Tue, 18 Jan 2005 16:36:02 +0000 Wookey <wookey@aleph1.co.uk> wrote:

I do have tcl8.4-dev and tk8.4-dev installed. I downloaded them from www.backports.org. May be I'll try to compile tcl8.4 myself Regards Roman

No, you are not - I thought you were building form the debian source package.

thtom in top-level of source.

Ah well - it wouldn't work for me either, and I haven't sat down and worked out why not.. Wookey -- Aleph One Ltd, Bottisham, CAMBRIDGE, CB5 9BA, UK Tel +44 (0) 1223 811679 work: http://www.aleph1.co.uk/ play: http://www.chaos.org.uk/~wookey/
Wookey, Well, after some search, I found an old post about "old debian problem... need to link/usr/include/tcl8.3/tcl.h to /usr/include/tcl.h" So I did: ganbo:/home/tatel# ln -s /usr/include/tcl8.4/tk.h /usr/include/ ganbo:/home/tatel# ln -s /usr/include/tcl8.4/tcl.h /usr/include/ ganbo:/home/tatel# ln -s /usr/include/tcl8.4/tclDecls.h /usr/include/ ganbo:/home/tatel# ln -s /usr/include/tcl8.4/tclPlatDecls.h ganbo:/home/tatel# ln -s /usr/include/tcl8.4/tkDecls.h And it worked... partially: compilation ran with no errors, but I still can't get the model viewer window; trying to see what other thing could I have missed just now. GL messages were efectively about not having installed xlibmesa-dev BTW, on my "regular" woody box with TclTk8.3, there are not soft links and it works fine, so probably there is a difference from the backported package 8.4 and 8.3 stable Hope this helps, Roman

Did you copy Tom0.2 directory to /usr/lib/tk8.4 after compilation? Regards, Martin
No I did not... at the first moment. Now it is working. I'm quite impressed. Next days I'll try editing of sites and those scrap things. Has somebody experienced this need of soft links to /usr/include/tcl.h et al? Thanks to all who helped me. Adding -I/usr/include/tcl8.4 to the compiler flags should have much the same effect, but without having to modify your installation.

It's probably done that way so you can have 8.3 stable and 8.4 backport installed at the same time. Cheers, Olly
