Re: [Therion] Point altitude/deph, Help !
by Xavier Robert 28 Jun '22

Hi all, I think I have found a trick. The other Xavier led me to the right tracks, thanks a lot ! Finally, this is quite simple with the point altitude, and no need to change anything inside the : - If we use the point altitude only with the option -align, we get the altitude - If we use the point altitude with the options -align and -value [-1004 m] where 1004 is the altitude of the main entrance, we print the depth only for that point (Do not forget the " - " before the altitude of the main entrance), and thus, we do not erase the classic point altitude. The only (small) limits are : * If the main entrance changes, we need to manually update ALL the points that print the depth. But that should not be be everyday, and not a big issue to do that. * the symbology of the two points is the same. I will have a look for a way to modify that and let you know if I find a trick (If I copy the code of the point Altitude, and call it p_u_depth(expr pos, R, S, A), it crashes...). Cheers, Xav

How to calculate the volume of a cave
by Bill Gee 31 Jan '22

31 Jan '22

Hello everyone - What tools can be used to calculate the volume of a cave based on center line and LRUD data? I found an email from Martin Sluka from about 4 years ago describing how to use Loch to export a .lox file in other formats, then run that file through CloudCompare or ParaView. The process looks very complex to me, and besides - Loch does not run on my computers, so there is no way for me to generate an export. As far as I can tell, Survex does not have a way to calculate volume. Could it be done with a KML file and Google Earth? -- Bill Gee

"\legendbox" "\loadpicture" and absolute paths
by rowena 14 Mar '21

14 Mar '21

Hello, I am using the "\loadpicture" capability in "\legendbox" constructs to include map sections, elevations, etc. It all works nicely on my PC where I am using relative paths to the pdf files. My club has a desire to archive the map data for posterity - ie if my pc dies or I go walkabout, the map data should still be available so that others can add to the maps as they are extended. I would prefer to have the images included using relative pathnames, rather than absolute pathnames, so that future explorers can download the map data and extend it, without having to duplicate my file hierarchy. How can I include relative paths in the \loadpicture functionality? Thanks, Rowena

texts_rs and a remark about karren vs anastomosis
by ivana miskovic 09 Feb '21

09 Feb '21

Hello, Here I put the translation file of map outputs in Serbian language. It would be great if texts_rs.txt were compiled in next Therion release. Also, unrelated to the translation itself, during translation I found some confusion in point symbols for karren and for anastomosis. It seems like they are inverted. Karren are generally sharp limestone formations on the floor, and anastomosis are usually remain like rounded rock formations in the cave ceiling. Unfortunately, in the UIS official symbol list, karren and anastomoses were put on the same picture. Thanx and c u in next surveyes, Ivana

Need metapost wizard: new text label
by Benedikt Hallinger 16 Jun '20

16 Jun '20

Hi there, i need some new point symbol (text label). Its a simple text on white color within a box with rounded corners, like the attached image. My metapostskills are not good enough to get this to work... For now i would be happy to have such a user point symbol. It would be important that it scales well and react to xtherions direction setting. Optional it would be cool if the default symbol could show the current survey identifier of the nearest station in the scrap and maybe also the nearest next survey. But this information could also be maintained manually for now. Is there someone here for my rescue? :) Thanks in advance, Beni

extend
by Marco Corvi 02 Jun '20

02 Jun '20

i think that extend should take values in the interval [-1,1], ie also fractional values, plus some special value such as "ignore" to open loops, and "undefined" to let the program choose, because it's a nuisance to enter a decimal number for every shot (legs + splays). therion uses the left/right normal/reverse etc. solution, and users should be allowed to set extend also for splays, if they need to. for now, let's use left/right/vert, and ignore only to open loops btw, are vertical extend considered in the computation of the cave length by therion ? marco

World Magnetic Model
by kevin dixon 28 Feb '20

28 Feb '20

The last Therion release 5.4.3 is dated 01 Feb 2019. There has in recent years been a significant change of the Magnetic North Pole location, less so for the Geomagnetic South Pole: https://ngdc.noaa.gov/geomag/GeomagneticPoles.shtml Given the above, an out of cycle World Geomagnetic Model WMM2015v2 was released 04 Feb 2019. When will this update appear in Survex and Therion ? Thanks, Kevin Dixon

Re: [Therion] Need metapost wizard: new text label

Sorry Beni you'll get this twice as I forgot to send to the list... The function def p_continuation (I know not the one you're using). has the line: if known(ATTR__text) and picture(ATTR__text): This seems to work, but not sure if it's because of the next few lines: % set labeling color to light orange push_label_fill_color(0.8, 0.8, 0.0); % draw filled label with text next to symbol ? p_label.urt(ATTR__text,(.5u,-.25u) transformed T,0.0,8); % restore original labeling color pop_label_fill_color; fi; It seems like the P_label.urt is fairly important, as this is what tells it where to place the label, in this case in the upper right (.urt) and then tells it to put the attr_text there. I'm nearly there, however i still have no clue how to read out the text attribute i attached to the symbol in the th2. "txt := ATTR__text;" throws metapost out the window. The point is defined like this: point 234.0909090909091 626.3636363636364 u:mappe -attr text 1234 Layout i came up with so far (does not support scaling/alignment/rotation, but thats fine so far): --------------------- layout m # Symbol to denote assigned survey. # If option -attr text <string> is given, it will be used; otherwise current survey is shown. code metapost def p_u_mappe(expr pos, theta, sc, al) = T:=identity aligned al rotated theta scaled sc shifted pos; % GET LABEL TEXT: string txt; txt := "123"; %txt := ATTR__text; % does not work. How do i get the value from ' -attr text "345" '? if known(ATTR__text): txt := ATTR_text; % NEVER evaluates to TRUE!?!? else: txt := ATTR__survey; fi; % DRAW LABEL: lab:=thelabel(txt, pos); process_label(pos, 0.001); % BORDER: pickup PenA; % border thickness interim bboxmargin:=6.5bp; % padding border->text q:=((bbox lab) smoothed 4); % smoothness of corners draw q; enddef; initsymbol("p_u_mappe"); endcode endlayout --------------------- Am 2020-02-19 18:34, schrieb Benedikt Hallinger: > Hi there, > i need some new point symbol (text label). Possibly useful scrap creation script and VS Code extension
by Rhys Tyers 24 Feb '20

24 Feb '20

Hello everyone, **Scrap Bootstrap Script** I recently made a script that and it was suggested it might be useful for others. The context is that I am involved in a redrawing exercise where we have survex data for a large system and separately drawn surveys that we are now converting into Therion format. We have converted all the svx files to th and are now going through and redrawing them. To speed up the start of the drawing I made a script that takes the centreline data in the `.th` file and creates a `.th2` scrap file with all of the stations already in a scrap and a 'fake' centerline to draw around. Find it here: https://github.com/tr1813/migresurvey/blob/master/scripts/initiliase_map.py Yes, it is a bit hacky :P If there is a better way to do it, please let me know. We are using inkscape and the Inkscape therion extension so I don't know if this is useful for people drawing in the Therion editor. **VS Code Therion Extension** I also use VS Code to edit the files so I made a Therion VS Code extension that includes some basic syntax highlighting, formatting, and also a command that does the same thing as the aforementioned script. Find it here: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=rhystyers.therion If anyone wants to use it I'm very happy to take suggestions on additions and improvements. I'm planning on trying to give it autocomplete next (for survey/scrap/map names). Rhys

Changing Atlas layout
by Benedikt Hallinger 03 Feb '20

03 Feb '20

Hello, i currently map a relatively long tunnel and want to be able to print it out on several A4 papers. The Atlas function of therion is the thing that solves this problem quite nicely. However, how can i tune the atlas layout, like disabling all visible features of the atlas (no navigation, no title, no borders when showing the overlapping (but the overlapping should persist!) The main goal is, to print the tunnel like it prints in normal export mode, but on several pages which break like it does in atlas mode.
