Tex memory exceeded
by Wookey 20 Mar '07

20 Mar '07

I just added 20 cross sections and now my map fails to process with: converting scraps ... done making map ... done This is pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.21a-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.4) entering extended mode (./data.tex (./th_enc.tex) (./th_texts.tex) (./th_resources.tex) (./th_fontdef.tex{/var/lib/texmf/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap/pdftex.map}) (./th_formdef.tex Runaway text? ! TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [main memory size=1000000]. l.47627 \PL{ 249.81 181.74 250.44 181.80 250.46 182.14 c}% If you really absolutely need more capacity, you can ask a wizard to enlarge me. Here is how much of TeX's memory you used: 292 strings out of 97341 2961 string characters out of 1211748 1000001 words of memory out of 1000000 Do I really need to change this (how?) or is it probably something else that has gone wrong? That 'runaway text?' looks suggestive. What I really need to know is how to debug it. I ran therion -d so now I have a /tmp/thTMPDIR full of mysterious stuff. Attached is data.tex from there, which seems likely to be relevant. Is that enough to determine what broke? The current full dataset is in svn at wookware.org, which MartinS now has access to. And whilst I'm here: I would also note that adding scraps in a 900-line file is almost unbearably slow on a 900Mhz machine. It feels like something in the code does a linear search so it gets slower and slower to add each line/item. ctrl-r produces about a 15-second wait. I supppose I should just have put all the x-sects in another file. cave title in 0.5?
by Carlos \"Guâno\" Grohmann 13 Mar '07

13 Mar '07

I was testing the packages of the 0.5 version. In the final pdf, I can't get the right cave name. Even if I set it like survey cave -title "Gruta da Lapinha - R*SP-" in my cave.th file (which is the source in thconfig) all I get is the name in my .svx file (like, if my survex file has "*begin topoX", I get "topoX" as the tilte). Help with a flowstone symbol for ASF.
by Mike Lake 27 Feb '07

27 Feb '07

Hi all I am trying to do a flowstone symbol for the ASF. In thconfig I have this: layout mypage scale 1 200 base-scale 1 100 symbol-set ASF code metapost beginpattern(pattern_flowstone_ASF); pickup PenC; draw (-.5u,.5u){dir -70} .. {dir 70}(.5u,.5u); patternxstep(1.0u); patternystep(0.5u); endpattern; def a_flowstone_ASF (expr Path) = T:=identity; thclean Path; thfill Path withpattern pattern_flowstone_ASF; enddef; endcode symbol-assign area flowstone ASF endlayout Im getting this errori when I run therion: therion: error -- thconfig [76] -- thconfig [76] -- unknown symbol specification -- area flowstone The pattern Im wanting is based on this draw (-.5u,.5u){dir -70} .. {dir 70}(.5u,.5u); which looks like this \__/ and what I would like to have is this: \__/\__/\__/\__/\__/\__/\__/\__/ \__/\__/\__/\__/\__/\__/\__/\__/ \__/\__/\__/\__/\__/\__/\__/\__/ \__/\__/\__/\__/\__/\__/\__/\__/ I see in the thArea.mp that some patterns are done using the mpattern package and use a beginpattern (e.g. pattern_water_UIS) while others seem to just use a for loop (e.g. a_sand_UIS) and dont use the mpattern package. Should one use the mpattern macro over more complex mpost code if its suitable? Mike -- Mike Lake Caver, Linux enthusiast and interested in anything technical.

bedding planes on cross sections?
by Carlos \"Guâno\" Grohmann 25 Feb '07

25 Feb '07

I was drawing some cross sections of a recently mapped cave, but want to draw the lines representing the bedding planes of the rock. If I just draw them outside the passage walls, they won't be shown on the final map, and if I draw a invisible wall outside the passage and the bedding planes lines, the interior of the passage will be trated as a pillar, since there will be a wall inside a wall. So, is there a way to draw lines outside of a wall and get them to show on the map? Carlos BTW, I just added some projects we are working with Therion here in Brazil in the Wiki. -- +-----------------------------------------------------------+ Carlos Henrique Grohmann - Guano Geologist M.Sc - Doctorate Student at IGc-USP - Brazil Linux User #89721 - carlos dot grohmann at gmail dot com +-----------------------------------------------------------+ _________________ "Good morning, doctors. metapost symbols
by Stefan Oswald 14 Feb '07

14 Feb '07

Hello, here are the results of our Therion meeting yesterday; An idea would be to add the factor for density/size of symbols in the source code and adjust these variables in the map editor by a -density {} command in the mapeditor\area\options. Also a -diameter {} command for block points would allow to change block size of each point individually. #POINT BLOCK +size adjust (symbolsize) code metapost def p_blocks_UIS (expr pos, theta,sc,al)= symbolsize:=1.0u; %Factor*u; Factor=size of the blocks U:=(.5u,.5u); T:=identity aligned al rotated theta scaled sc shifted pos; pickup PenC; thdraw (.0symbolsize,.0symbolsize)--(1.0symbolsize,-.5symbolsize)--(0.0symbolsize,-1.5symbolsize)--(-1.0symbolsize,-1.0symbolsize)--cycle; thdraw (.5symbolsize,-.25symbolsize)--(1.0symbolsize,.5symbolsize)--(0.0symbolsize,1.5symbolsize)--(-0.5symbolsize,.5symbolsize); thdraw (.0symbolsize,.0symbolsize)--(.0symbolsize,.5symbolsize)--(-1.5symbolsize,.5symbolsize)--(-1.5symbolsize,-0.5symbolsize)--(-0.5symbolsize,-0.5symbolsize); enddef; endcode #AREA BLOCK +density adjust (distance) code metapost def a_blocks (expr p) = distance:=1; T:=identity; pickup PenC; path q, qq; q = bbox p; picture tmp_pic; uu := max(u, (xpart urcorner q - xpart llcorner q)/100, (ypart urcorner q - ypart llcorner q)/100); tmp_pic := image( for i = xpart llcorner q step distance*uu until xpart urcorner q: for j = ypart llcorner q step distance*uu until ypart urcorner q: qq := punked (((-.5uu,-.5uu)--(.5uu,-.5uu)--(.5uu,.5uu)--(-.5uu,.5uu)--cycle) randomized (uu/2)) rotated uniformdeviate(360) shifted ((i,j) randomized 1.0uu); if xpart (p intersectiontimes qq) < 0: thclean qq; thdraw qq; fi; endfor; endfor; ); clip tmp_pic to p; draw tmp_pic; enddef; endcode greetings, Stefan
