labelling grids
by Bruce Mutton 22 Apr '08

Further to the posting below, I'm just wondering if there are any updates on the ability to label co-ordinate grids with the northings and eastings at the edge of each sheet (map and or atlas). (I have modified the grids to be displayed as continuous lines.) error - station point does not exist
by Roger Johansson 30 Mar '08

30 Mar '08

Hi! I'm a beginner in Therion so please be patient :) I'm drawing a fictious cave in order to learn how Therion works. So far I have managed to join two scraps from one .th2 file and surveydata from two .th files. The pdf-output didn't look too great however, since an underlaying passage isn't hidden when it crosses the upper passage. I figure this perhaps depends on that there was no station points in the scraps? But when I create station-points in my scraps (I have a xvi background so the station names are created automaticly) I can not compile anymore. I get an error: *********** D:\Therion\therion.exe: error -- karta1.th2 [11] -- station does not exist -- 3 ************ Pointing to this line in my th2 file: ************* point 150.385 330.105 station -name 3 ************** What am I missing here? Thanks in advance Roger Johansson No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG. Version: 7.5.519 / Virus Database: 269.22.1/1349 - Release Date: 2008-03-29 17:02

Editing svg therion results
by Xavier Pennec 22 Mar '08

22 Mar '08

Hi One of the things that I would like to do with the maps generated by Therion is embedding plans and elevations in a single document, especially for small caves, and rework on subparts of the plans and elevations to put some specific features into evidence for figures in a text explaining things about the cave (or in this case the mine). I thought that it would be easy with any svg editor, but apparently this is not the case at all. I can open and visualize the svg files produced by therion using inkscape, but I cannot degroup the drawing in order to edit some of the parts and, more importantly, importing the plan and the elevation in a single document lead to an incorrect result (see NaduelRD5_fuse.svg). It seems that there is a namespace problem: as both drawing refer to elements that have the same name, so that the definition of one of the drawing overwrite the definitions of the other. Does anybody have an idea of how to overcome that? Is there any other svg editor that behaves better (and which is not too expensive!)? By the way, it would be interesting to have a north arrow symbol that we can place wherever we want in a plan and not only a north arrow generated in the legend. That way, we could avoid using legends when needed (e.g. to fuse maps outside therion). Thanks Xavier

Hello, I'm using a FreeBSD 7.0 box with gcc 4.2.1 and trying to compile therion.0.5.1. First problem encountered with extern/lxFile.cxx:725: error: 'getline' was not declared in this scope was solved with addition of #include "getline.h" string Next one encountered when linking: extern/proj4/libproj.a -s extern/lxFile.o(.text+0x2404): In function `lxFile::ImportPLT(char const*)': : undefined reference to `getline' *** Error code 1 Could you give me directions to solve trouble? help needed with "layout" for an atlas
by Wolfgang Zillig 10 Mar '08

10 Mar '08

Hi, I'm trying to create a atlas layout for a cave. Some questions remain: - how can I align the map area to the left? The standards seems to be top, center - how can change the position of the "page indicator" (the 5 by 5 matrix of the surrounding pages), the "scale bar" and also the "page overview" - at the moment I only have centreline data but this is sometimes not nicely displayed, see attachement. - how to display the centreline in the "page indicator" or if not possible how to disable the "page indicator"? Many thanks so far. Wolfgang

modelling a cave in 3D
by Jonathan Prouty 07 Mar '08

Hello All, I just stumbled across this website<http://research.gg.uwyo.edu/kincaid/3dcave.htm>and thought I would share with this list since I know some of you are actively developing software for modelling caves in 3D. In the 'Programming Codes <http://research.gg.uwyo.edu/kincaid/Modeling/Comp_codes/codes.htm>' section, the author makes available the MATLAB script he used to generate his models. The code is freely available and modifiable and seems to be fairly well commented. I doubt the code itself is all that useful, but perhaps the algorithms might be. Hopefully it isn't old-hat. At the very least, there are some pretty renderings! link: http://research.gg.uwyo.edu <tr_1204907058820>/kincaid/3dcave.htm <http://research.gg.uwyo.edu/kincaid/3dcave.htm> -Jonny -- ^v^ ^v^ ^v^ Take nothing but pictures, ^v^ Leave nothing but footprints, ^v^ Kill nothing but time. FW: List of Therion Symbols problem
by Bruce Mutton 06 Mar '08

Oops, I think I forgot the attachment when I posted this... Again... I can view the symbols.xhtml file with Firefox 2.(latest update) but I'm not sure it's complete. I made a pdf of it (attached) which has all the information of the xhtml but is formatted slightly less elegantly than when viewed with Firefox. Question one is; Is the pdf file a complete representation, or am I still having viewing problems? If it is complete, what does Therion do with a symbol when the chosen symbol-set allocation for that symbol is blank? In addition I have noticed previously that if I specify a symbol-set, then it overrides my custom metapost codings (for water and sump areas for example) regardless of the relative positions of the statements in my thconfig files. Can I specify a symbol-set AND have custom metapost modifications to symbols? Station Co-ordinates
by Bruce Mutton 04 Mar '08

Is it possible to obtain co-ordinates for some or all stations processed by Therion? (other than by scaling from the outputs?) (which gives me a thought - maybe from a *.xvi output file?) Bruce
