kml color
by Philippe Vernant 25 Oct '25

Hi guys, I can’t find a way to change the light greyish color of the kml export except by going into the kml file and change it after it has been created. Is there a way to specify the color when creating the kml ? Thanks, Phil

Can't change default l_wall style with metapost
by Paul Rowe 25 Jul '23

25 Jul '23

Hi, I have changed wall subtypes before in my layout. e.g. Using Bruce Mutton's code metapost def l_wall_unsurveyed (expr P) = T:=identity; pickup PenC; thdraw P dashed evenly scaled (2*optical_zoom); enddef; endcode However, I can't get this working on the default l_wall type. Any changes, including using the same style as in the above l_wall_unsurveyed example get ignored. e.g. code metapost def l_wall (expr P) = T:=identity; pickup PenC; thdraw P dashed evenly scaled (2*optical_zoom); enddef; endcode I'm not sure what I'm missing. I'm first trying to prove I can override this, and then working on a wall style with a shadow or external cross-hatching. Thanks, Paul

Problems building latest Therion in Fedora 37: missing pdfetex.ini
by Rodrigo Severo 24 Jul '23

Hi, I am having trouble building ThBook in latest Therion in Fedora 37. I am getting the following error: [ 98%] Generating thbook.pdf This is pdfTeX, Version 3.141592653-2.6-1.40.22 (TeX Live 2021) (preloaded format=pdftex) restricted \write18 enabled. kpathsea: Running mktexfmt pdftex.fmt mktexfmt: mktexfmt is using the following fmtutil.cnf files (in precedence order): mktexfmt: /usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/web2c/fmtutil.cnf mktexfmt: mktexfmt is using the following fmtutil.cnf file for writing changes: mktexfmt: /home/rodrigo/.texlive2021/texmf-config/web2c/fmtutil.cnf mktexfmt [INFO]: writing formats under /home/rodrigo/.texlive2021/texmf-var/web2c mktexfmt [INFO]: --- remaking pdftex with pdftex mktexfmt [WARNING]: inifile pdfetex.ini for pdftex/pdftex not found. mktexfmt [INFO]: not selected formats: 19 mktexfmt [INFO]: failed to build: 1 (pdftex/pdftex) To my untrained eyes it seems that a "pdfetex.ini" file is missing. Any ideas on how to solve this issue? Regards, Rodrigo Severo

Problem compiling Therion 6.1.7 on Fedora 38
by Bill Gee 24 Jul '23

24 Jul '23

I gave it a shot today to see if I could duplicate Rodrigo's problem. I got a completely different error: =========================== [bgee@main2 build]$ cmake .. CMake Error at cmake/Dependencies.cmake:8 (find_package): By not providing "Findfmt.cmake" in CMAKE_MODULE_PATH this project has asked CMake to find a package configuration file provided by "fmt", but CMake did not find one. Could not find a package configuration file provided by "fmt" with any of the following names: fmtConfig.cmake fmt-config.cmake Add the installation prefix of "fmt" to CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH or set "fmt_DIR" to a directory containing one of the above files. If "fmt" provides a separate development package or SDK, be sure it has been installed. Call Stack (most recent call first): CMakeLists.txt:18 (include) =============================== This is Fedora 38. The compile of 6.1.6 on Fedora 37 worked correctly for me. 6.1.6 still works after the upgrade to Fedora 38. I did not recompile it. -- =============== Bill Gee

map colour usage description in Therion Book
by Bruce Mutton 10 Jul '23

10 Jul '23

Hello Just now I was having difficulty remembering how to colour a particular map a specific colour, different to the colour scheme applied to most of the maps being output. My first challenge was to figure out that this could only be done via 'select' in a thconfig, and not within the definition of a map. I think that the Therion Book could do with a small edit to clarify usage of 'select map -colour [r g b]'. The Therion book says. 'map' Description: A map is a collection of . Arguments: . . colo[u]r <color> set the map colour; this option overrides the automatic choice when the layout specifies colour map-fg [map]. >From that I had the incorrect impression that specifying a colour when selecting a map for output would always override. What I have found is that this is only sometimes true. Map select colour overrides when. colour map-fg [r g b] colour map-fg scrap colour map-fg map Map select colour does not override when. colour map-fg altitude colour map-fg topo-date colour map-fg explo-date For (sub)maps where there is no date set, the map select colour will be shown, otherwise select map -colour [r g b] has no effect. So I suggest an edit to the Therion Book along the lines of. 'map' Description: A map is a collection of . Arguments: . . colo[u]r <color> set the map colour when selecting a map; this option overrides the specified colour palette when the layout specifies colour map-fg [map], [scrap] or [<colour>]. It has no effect when the layout specifies colour map-fg [altitude]. It has no effect when the layout specifies colour map-fg [topo-date] or [explo-date], for the scraps whose associated surveys have dates assigned. I have not assessed how this plays out with lookups <https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/examples#colour_palette_scales_-_lookups> , but I imagine they should not have any different impacts to those described above. Regards Bruce

Creating GeoTIFF files
by Bill Gee 07 Jul '23

07 Jul '23

A question has come up from one of my caver friends who is very new to cave survey but an old hand at ArcGIS and various other ESRI tools. He earns a living as a GIS expert. He would like to get a georeferenced TIFF (GeoTIFF) which includes GPS coordinates of survey stations. I looked at the KML file produced by Therion and find no references to survey stations. A KML file is really just a long (very long!) list of GPS coordinates, so it probably could include survey stations. So my question for the group: Is there a way to produce a GeoTIFF file which includes survey stations? Related question: Do the ESRI outputs from Therion include survey stations? Thanks! -- =============== Bill Gee
