KML from Therion no longer working in Google Earth?
by Footleg 15 Feb '12

15 Feb '12

I don't know why, but kml files for my surveys produced by Therion appear to have stopped working in Google Earth. Any therion kml file I try (including ones which worked in the past) now just show a point in central Africa with the whole continent visible at the zoom level. If I zoom to where the cave survey should appear then I see nothing there. I have attached a very truncated sample kml file (I deleted most of the points from the polygon to keep it simple. Footleg

Stahlträger
by Markus Boldt 20 Jan '12

20 Jan '12

Also gar nicht sooo schwer.

AUT symbol set and attr height
by Renato Serôdio 16 Jan '12

16 Jan '12

Hello! This is my first post to the list, so a quick introduction - I'm using Therion to create the map of a segment of a cave in the Loferer Steingebirge. I selected the AUT symbol-set because it is the closest to the one used in my club. And indeed, the austrians have 3 different line types for "pit", depending on the height/depth of the edge. In this case, since the pit is deeper than 10m, the triangles defining should be filled in black. I could see that the uAUT.mp does have a if clause to call thfill, but I can't seem to get to it, or it is not working as it should. I am setting the attribute with '-attr height 15' on the therion th2 editor (options box). I couldn't find anything pointing to this on the list - most messages deal with setting of user-defined attributes in a user layout. Since the AUT set is probably in use, could someone point to what I am getting amiss? Thanks! Renato

Inkscape
by Martin Sluka 13 Jan '12

13 Jan '12

Really nobody trying Inkscape as map preeditor (excluding areas, slope ticks and line point subtypes) for xtherion? I made three conversions from Illustrator files to Therion and it is very promissing combination! You may add Therion object(s) property manualy in "Object properties" menu or by help of Therion extensions. Save final drawing as .th2 file and continue in Xtherion. .th2 file is possible to open in Inkscape. Objects (areas, ...) are just ignored. There is one limitation - If there are areas you should check if ID of lines don't include "--" string (double dash). If so one have to search/replace them in plain text editor to "_" (underscore), edit in Inkscape and again replace "_" by "--" before opening in Xtherion. Martin S.

colour preview-above broken
by Bruce 09 Jan '12

09 Jan '12

Apologies for being so noisy lately. I think the colour preview-above statement might have broken (possibly a few versions ago). The following syntax alternatives all work fine for me. colour preview-below 80 #0 = black 100 = white colour preview-below [80] colour preview-below [80 0 40] #magenta I get an appropriate colour for the passages previewed. However I cannot get the equivalent preview-above statements to have any effect. I always get a thin jet-black outline for the previewed passage. Is it broken, or are my complicated layout files getting the better of me again? Bruce

debug scrap-names crashes if empty scraps
by Bruce 08 Jan '12

08 Jan '12

I notice that; debug scrap-names causes a metapost (?) error with the attached drawing file. Therion almost recovers but reports exit code cp2 and produces no pdf output. Admittedly the file is incomplete, a work in progress. There is a scrap with point stations and no walls, and there are two empty scraps. I think it is the empty scraps which upset the debug process. However perhaps it would be better if metapost just reported the existence of the empty scrap and then did not try to label it! (or maybe something else is going on?) Bruce

Show only text of larger sizes
by Bruce 08 Jan '12

08 Jan '12

.on my long running but low key and random journey towards taming the text in my pdfs. I though I might try; symbol-hide group all #hides ALL except passage infill colour symbol-show line wall symbol-hide point label #just to make sure symbol-show point label:xl #hoping to display only the huge text What I was hoping for was a clean map output with only the labels with attribute '-size xl', or else an error to confirm that I was doing something bad. This is not documented so I was expecting an error. What I actually get is a map with point labels of all sizes (xs to xl) displayed, and no error or warning messages. Is what I am trying to do already implemented, but perhaps with different syntax? If not would it be reasonably easy to implement and would it fit in with the 'therion way'? The same would be needed for 'line label', and perhaps it could be useful for many other points with scale (remark, water, water-flow, gradient, stalactite etc) Bruce

Using "-enable splay-shots" for 3D export.
by Bertrand HAUSER 07 Jan '12

07 Jan '12

Hi, Question of a newbie... I have seen in the last changelog for therion 5.3.9 : "+ added option -enable/disable splay-shots to 3d model export" So I use this command line in my thconfig : export model -format loch -enable splay-shots -o my3d.lox The compilation is OK, but there is no splay-shots when I open my file in Loch. Beside the very simple survey and in attachment the lox file. Where is my error ? Thanks, Bertrand (sorry for my english) survey topo20120106\ -title "Topo du vendredi 06 janvier 2012" centerline date 2012.01.06 units length left right up down metres units compass clino degrees data normal from to length compass clino 1 2 1.41 230.60 -3.40 2 3 1.91 151.89 -0.38 3 4 3.29 188.61 0.93 4 5 3.48 223.96 16.62 # splay shots flags splay 2 - 0.56 99.40 22.02 2 - 2.60 114.09 71.97 2 - 0.54 271.19 14.69 3 - 1.06 96.40 3.75 3 - 2.64 92.30 70.33 3 - 0.45 289.00 15.16 3 - 0.58 302.47 -46.16 4 - 1.02 290.35 30.75 4 - 2.51 265.93 70.58 4 - 0.27 109.10 47.93 4 - 0.55 32.65 -74.46 5 - 1.45 354.70 85.75 5 - 0.28 325.21 2.11 5 - 1.06 353.52 -83.31 5 - 1.03 134.02 31.59 endcenterline endsurvey

equate two (or more) fixed stations
by Bruce 02 Jan '12

02 Jan '12

Happy New Year! I've just tried to equate some fixed stations that have been defined a bit like this; fix 809 2502023 6021519 594 4 4 12 but I get errors from therion like this; error -- equate of two fixed stations -- 809(a)NSpots.NgaruaArea and A1(a)a.Kairuru.NgaruaArea These represent gps fixes taken at the same place on various occasions and part of various overland surveys. At first look it seems like this might be a desired response from Therion. How can two stations with specified and differing co-ordinates be 'equal'? My assumption was that the standard errors give the actual position of the station a degree of uncertainty or 'fuzzyness', and that by equating two such stations they would be 'averaged out' in a similar way to loop closures or two fixed stations connected by a survey network. But it seems I might have assumed wrong. Is it part of therions design to allow equating a number of fixed stations? By using alternative syntax or connecting the stations with a dummy survey leg with large std error perhaps? Bruce
