"\legendbox" "\loadpicture" and absolute paths
by rowena 14 Mar '21

14 Mar '21

Hello, I am using the "\loadpicture" capability in "\legendbox" constructs to include map sections, elevations, etc. It all works nicely on my PC where I am using relative paths to the pdf files. My club has a desire to archive the map data for posterity - ie if my pc dies or I go walkabout, the map data should still be available so that others can add to the maps as they are extended. I would prefer to have the images included using relative pathnames, rather than absolute pathnames, so that future explorers can download the map data and extend it, without having to duplicate my file hierarchy. How can I include relative paths in the \loadpicture functionality? Thanks, Rowena

Scale dependant error when using area fills
by Tom Foord 20 Jan '19

20 Jan '19

Hi all I'm having some problems compiling a project which includes debris area fills. Depending on the exact symbol fill that I use, I am getting strange scale-dependant errors which seem to cause the compiler to loop endlessly until I force it to stop. I originally noticed the problem when using a custom area fill that I made by modifying the standard a_debris_AUT symbol fill. I've attached my modified metapost definition in the attached text file 'a_debris_WUG.txt'. The error occurs for any scale between 1:2000 and 1:4483 (outside of this range the project compiles fine). See attached output log 'Output log - a_debris_WUG.txt'. As you can see, the file seems to loop over and over again. Initially I thought this problem was specific to my custom fill, but then I noticed that I also get a similar error when using the standard a_debris_AUT fill, however this time the error only occurs when the scale is set to exactly 1:2000 (any other scale seems to be fine). See attached output log 'Output log - a_debris_AUT.txt'. Can anyone help with this problem? Thanks Tom

Therion 5.4.1 Windows Installer incomplete installs
by Bruce Mutton 16 Oct '17

Things are getting weirder. Usually I have just installed one version of Therion over top of whatever version I have installed, but wonder if this might be contributing to issues I have here. After I have installed 5.4.1 over top of 5.4.0. If I open a thconfig file, with Help About I get 5.4.1 reported, as below If I then open a .th2 drawing file, I get 5.4.0 reported, as below So with two instances of XTherion open at the same time, each is reporting a different version. Same thing happens installing 5.4.1 88c8a06 over top of 5.4.1. The drawing editor still reports 5.4.0 Perhaps a harmless bug/omission or something odd with the installer? Initial drawing suggests the drawing editor is behaving like 5.4.1 (triangular survey stations). Bruce From: Therion [mailto:therion-bounces@speleo.sk] On Behalf Of Bruce Mutton via Therion Sent: Monday, 29 May 2017 9:44 AM To: 'List for Therion users' <therion(a)speleo.sk> Cc: Bruce Mutton <bruce(a)tomo.co.nz> Subject: [Therion] Therion 5.4.1 Windows crash if survex loop-closure I've just started catching up on a drawing project since 5.4.1 has been released. A while back I reported problems with beta versions of Therion related to 'loop-closure survex'. They were fixed in 5.4.0 Now using 5.4.1 those projects/thconfigs that crashed before now seem to be OK, but I have now found another project/thconfig that crashes with 5.4.1 but not with 5.4.0 5.4.1 runs OK with 'loop-closure therion' but gets killed by Windows 10 when I use 'loop-closure survex'. Am still using survex 1.2.27. I have attached the log file with 'loop-closure survex'. Not sure if it is related, but I notice that if I install 5.4.1 'Install Only for Me' it will not overwrite a previously installed 5.4.0, even though the installer does not report any errors or problems to the user. Ie it fails even though it looks like it has worked just fine. To get 5.4.1 to overwrite 5.4.0 I need to "Install for all users". Bruce

Therion] Therion 5.4.1 Windows Installer incomplete installs
by Bruce Mutton 16 Oct '17

Just following up on what I think is a serious problem with the 5.4.0 and 5.4.1 Windows Installers (as described below). I think the Windows installers should be taken offline until they can cleanly install in all likely situations. Either that all provide explicit information on the download page as to the limitations and how to fix the problems the installers are likely to cause. Bruce From: Therion [mailto:therion-bounces@speleo.sk] On Behalf Of Bruce Mutton via Therion Sent: Tuesday, 30 May 2017 8:48 PM To: 'List for Therion users' <therion(a)speleo.sk> Cc: Bruce Mutton <bruce(a)tomo.co.nz> Subject: Re: [Therion] Therion 5.4.1 Windows Installer incomplete installs Thanks Vladimir I seem to have got through all that successfully. I will stick to “all users” Therion installs from now on, as that puts the files in a location where I am used to looking for them. If the installer ever handles uninstalls, then the .ini files should be preserved. The former requires admin privileges, and the later can be used by a limited user. Older installer versions used Program files by default, and the new files would always overwrite the older ones. But if you had an older version in Program Files, and installed the new one for the current user in his AppData folder, you would end up with two sets of files. And with conflicting file type associations. You could try uninstalling and manually deleting the Therion install folder. Cleaning the registry entries requires using Registry Editor and deleting a set of keys, if you are comfortable doing that. The keys are these (after the text "Subkey". HKLM is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKCU is HKEY_CURRENT_USER) https://github.com/therion/therion-batteries/blob/master/therion.iss#L60-L1… I suppose a better solution would be if I can make the installer uninstall any previous version before installing. This should prevent such an issue. Vladimir On Mon, May 29, 2017 at 1:12 PM, Bruce Mutton via Therion <therion(a)speleo.sk <mailto:therion@speleo.sk> > wrote: Things are getting weirder. Import a scrap into another scrap (or th2-file)
by torstein finnesand 11 Oct '17

11 Oct '17

Hi fellows, Sometimes I realize that two scraps should have been one (for instance scrap A in A.th2 should have been a part of scrap B in B.th2), in particular when it's difficult to join them. It's easy to insert the xvi file into the scrap B file. But I have to draw it again. Is there any workaround here? Torstein Finnesand Norway

User-defined symbol with orientation, l-size and r-size options
by emmanuel.vitte＠laposte.net 30 Jun '17

30 Jun '17

Hi all, I would like to draw a large water-flow,not as a simple line, and show its direction. I try to define a user-defined symbol with orientation, l-size and r-size options. But Therion (v 5.4.1) answers that theses options are not valid with type u. Is there an options or a way to enable theses options? Thank's Emmanuel

Re: [Therion] Linux and DistoX (Wookey)
by Marco Corvi 30 Jun '17

30 Jun '17

So, thanks to me giving a competent person (who also doesn't own any Windows or Android devices) a couple of distoX's that needed ... At the moment this only works with python3 and distoX1, But Stuart plans to use the topodroid codebase to work out the differences for the X2 protocol (unless anyone has a doc for this already, or Marco can tell him). wookey, i may be not precise because i do not have the docs at hand. the distox2 protocol is backward compatible. therefore, getting the calib raw data from the distox2 is the same as in distox1, namely two data packets, one for G, one for M. the commands to toggle calib mode on and off are the same, too. the computation of the calib coeff has changed a bit with firmware 2.2 (or 2.3, don't remember well) beat added three non-linear coeffs, and these are written after the other 24. there is a catch: in the distox1 those mem are set at 0xff (ie -1), so these three coeff are written with 0 getting to 0xff. the non-linear calib should not be used for older firmwares. i have not changed the linux code, and i do not think to have the time to do that. i also understand you may not want to use android, but you can use the android code and turn it in C++ the computational methods are very much C like, and the helper classes are just basic linalgebra. if you or stuart have any question, send me email marco

Trouble scrap: metapost exit code 35584
by Rodrigo Severo 25 Jun '17

Hi, I'm having trouble compiling this scrap created with Topodroid. It results in a "therion: error -- metapost exit code -- 35584". I tried some debug suggestions available at https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/tbe:wiki5 but couldn't find the culprit. Any ideas on what might be wrong? XtTherion canvas zoom with the mouse wheel bug
by Bruce Mutton 21 Jun '17

21 Jun '17

Hello I have an old paper survey, so am doing some old school map drawing over a scanned background sketch. My first for a few years. I have noticed that XTherion seems to not be able to display the background sketch once you have used the mouse wheel to zoom. The sketch just vanishes, even though everything looks OK. Using the magic of version control I can see that the only significant change that XTherion makes to the dataset is that the ##XTHERION## variable is no longer one of the present values. ie 100 has changed to 62 in response to the mouse wheel zoom. There are no problems if I use xvi file sketches as generated from PocketTopo, so it is just a bitmap thing I suppose. If I manually change the value above back to 100, the image displays just fine. The + - zoom button on the interface work just fine as well. I am using 5.4.1 - 88c8a06 Mouse wheel zoom is a nice feature, so it would be worth finding a fix for this. Bruce

align is back to front
by Bruce Mutton 20 Jun '17

20 Jun '17

Has anyone noticed that -align seems to be aligning symbols the wrong way? I have not comprehensively checked, but I think labels are OK. But water-flow is aligning opposite to what it should. In the image below, the water-flow symbol is aligned bottom-right according to the context menu and the options text. But you can see that the pdf symbol is aligned top-left. Am using 5.4.1 + 88c8a06 It might have been this way for a while.
