"\legendbox" "\loadpicture" and absolute paths
by rowena 14 Mar '21

14 Mar '21

Hello, I am using the "\loadpicture" capability in "\legendbox" constructs to include map sections, elevations, etc. It all works nicely on my PC where I am using relative paths to the pdf files. My club has a desire to archive the map data for posterity - ie if my pc dies or I go walkabout, the map data should still be available so that others can add to the maps as they are extended. I would prefer to have the images included using relative pathnames, rather than absolute pathnames, so that future explorers can download the map data and extend it, without having to duplicate my file hierarchy. How can I include relative paths in the \loadpicture functionality? Thanks, Rowena

Import a scrap into another scrap (or th2-file)
by torstein finnesand 11 Oct '17

Hi fellows, Sometimes I realize that two scraps should have been one (for instance scrap A in A.th2 should have been a part of scrap B in B.th2), in particular when it's difficult to join them. It's easy to insert the xvi file into the scrap B file. But I have to draw it again. Is there any workaround here? Torstein Finnesand Norway

Therion's Loch features (incognito) on NZ TV
by Bruce 19 Oct '15

Loch model of 39 km cave features in this TV news clip at 3:47 (Me carrying two packs on the opening still, and stuck at 2:00) http://www.3news.co.nz/Deepest-cave-discovered-in-our-backyard/tabid/817/art icleID/330973/Default.aspx Centreline data has been processed for the last few(?) decades with a home-made unix application that uses proprietary routines, so will only live while Jonathan is with his current employer. As you might have guessed, an 'export to Therion' routine is being worked on. Bruce

Missing explored length in survey-list statistics
by Bruce 01 Jun '15

Oops, I got distracted as I was writing this, and reported it incorrectly. So The continuation-lists are reported correctly. It is the survey-list that is reported incorrectly. As you can see below, the explored length 50m total is not supported by the values below it. The 10m is recorded in a centerline as described in my first message. However there are plan and extended scraps that have 'point continuations' with explored lengths which are included in the total for the cave, but not recorded against the survey. My recollection is that continuations in scraps used to be recorded against the survey. As in the image below, The continuation-list is still reporting scrap continuations against the survey and station (The location of the continuation point can be seen in the 'ref' column on the right). Thanks Bruce _____ From: Bruce [mailto:bruce@tomo.co.nz] Sent: Monday, 1 June 2015 10:38 a.m. To: 'List for Therion users' Subject: Missing explored length in continuation-list statistics Just studying an output from a recent project, and I noticed that 'explored' lengths in scraps recorded against 'point continuations' are not reported properly in continuation-list survey-list html exports. (I have only tested html, plan and extended scraps in Therion 5.3.16) 'Explored' lengths in centrelines recorded against stations with flag continuation are reported however. A bug perhaps? Or a quirk of my project? Bruce

FW: How to mark a preferred way through a cave
by Michael Wasmund 27 May '15

Thanks, Markus, for your suggestion and kind offer! Actually meanwhile I can manage the mix of bitmaps and genuine scraps quite well, thanks also to help by forum participants. Perhaps I should make a Wiki article about bitmap processing with Therion summarizing "best practice". I may need your help in other issues, for example, obtaining geo data for surface modelling. I'd then contact you directly. Michael. -----Original Message----- From: therion-bounces(a)speleo.sk [mailto:therion-bounces@speleo.sk] On Behalf Of Markus Boldt Sent: Mittwoch, 27. Mai 2015 23:55 To: List for Therion users Subject: Re: [Therion] How to mark a preferred way through a cave Hi Michael, (in english so all can understand it, but not be angry about the poorness :-)) I know your project of "Fuchslabyrinth" and so I may say: for the future it will be the best Idea to draw the cave or the old bitmaps new. I know, it is very much work. But after you will have no Problems to add new parts and you will have all advantages of Therion. Assumed you have the old data of the centerline, that is clear. Some years ago, I have done the same with "Vetterhöhle" (2,5Km) and "Bärentalhöhle" (now 440m). The Vetterhöhle was drawn in AutoCad and that was a problem for me and others because of the very costy program and the use of it. The Bärentalhöhle was drawn simply with Tusche (is that the same word in English as in german?). 400m was not so much work, but enough. But today I`am lucky about that doing, because every year there comes some meters in addition. Drawing the Vetterhöhle in Therion was another thing, but at the end it was the best which someone can do. "Fuchslabyrinth" is very longer and so very more work, but in the end you will be lucky too. If you want, I can give you an offer: Give me the data and the corresponding bitmaps and I will help you part by part. So I have additionally an advantage; I don`t forget Therion :-) Greetings Markus PS. All other please over directly message in german :-) -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: therion-bounces(a)speleo.sk [mailto:therion-bounces@speleo.sk] Im Auftrag von Bruce (External) Gesendet: Mittwoch, 27. I hesitate to suggest this, but if you don't mind using a nasty hack, you could, for example set... flags approx ...on the route, and then redefine l_survey_cave to emphasise the approx centreline and make recessive other line flags. An example of the sort of code you could use is here http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php/metapost?s[]=approx#general_symbol_ex amples "Visualize cave centreline shot flags with colour for splay and duplicate, and dash for approximate shot flags" This will only work with pdf and probably svg outputs, and will have no effect on 3d outputs.
