The simplest way is to export a map with proj 90 and then export the extended with the pro 90 map as an image or vice versa layout layout map-header 0 0 off endlayout layout image map-image 0 100 sw elevation90.pdf map-header 0 0 nw endlayout export map proj 90 -o elevation90.pdf -layout layout export map proj extended -o elevations.pdf layout image Dave Clucas daveclucas.com <http://daveclucas.com/> sarawak-caves.com <http://sarawak-caves.com/> dave.clucas(a)icloud.com <mailto:daveclucas@icloud.com> Exploring the World - One cave at a time > On 20 May 2015, at 11:00, therion-request(a)speleo.sk wrote: > > How to combine projection and extended elevation > into single picture?

How to combine projection and extended elevation into single picture?
by Nikita Kozlov 20 May '15

20 May '15

I've got a vertical cave survey done by 2 teams, the first one draw cave in [projection 90], and the second and most recent team continued survey with extended elevation drawing. I need to produce a pdf, where both surveys are connected to each other, what is the simplest way to do it? Do I need to play with map definitions, or there are another way?

Redefining PENA...PEND to draw lighter
by Martin Sluka 20 May '15

There are special workflows to clean low quality BW or greyscale images, used originally to clean fax messages. Principle is to use in bitmap editor combination of setup of layers and Gaussian blur. One or two times. And as last step a sharping. It works better if you increase resolution up to 600-1200 dpi first. I attached sample after and original and several screenshots. I'm sorry I don't have English Photoshop but it should be clear any way. m.s. Result:

Redefining PENA...PEND to draw lighter
by Michael Wasmund 20 May '15

YES! symbol-colour group all [60] #makes everything grey does the trick. Thanks, Bruce! Regarding Footleg's comment: Therion indeed turnes "black" bitmaps into "grey" bitmaps, see attached example, where I inverted the colors of a B/W bitmap. Perhaps this is something which could be improved in future versions? Michael.

Redefining PENA...PEND to draw lighter
by Michael Wasmund 19 May '15

Hello, Does someone have metapost code to redefine PENA...PEND to draw grey instead of black? Why I need this: My survey consists of 80% scanned bitmaps and 20% drawn scraps. The bitmaps are "grey", not black (can't make them better using image processing). The drawn scraps then stand out and look ugly compared to the bitmaps. I know how to redefine individual symbols (walls etc.) to be grey instead of black, but rather than redefining a large symbol set I'd rather redefine the PENs - if possible. Regards, Michael.

Custom headers to distinguish between projections - plan, extended, elevation xxx deg
by Bruce 19 May '15

19 May '15

I'm working on some custom headers, specific to the projection that is being produced, however it would be more efficient to have a single custom header that could automatically detect the projection and include or exclude text appropriately. Unfortunately my tex coding is not up to it, and so I would like some tips as to how to test for the projection so I can selectively use the snippets below. What I am missing is the existing variable names and a little bit of skill in conditional tests in tex. For example, I would like to include, below the scale bar and above the map-comment; -"Extended Elevation" for maps where the projection is extended, {\the\legendtextsize\ss {Developed elevation looking generally North} \par} -"\outcsname Plan View<br>Arrow points to \northdir north" for maps where the projection is plan \edef\tmp{\the\outcsname} \ifx\tmp\empty \else {\the\legendtextsize\ss\the\outcsname { plan projection}\par} \fi \edef\tmp{\the\northdir} \ifx\tmp\empty \else {\the\legendtextsize\ss Arrow points to \the\northdir { north }\par\par} \fi I need to sort this out so it gives a sensible result if the coordinate system is arbitrary, and hopefully figure out a way to detect if the bearings are magnetic or adjusted by a declination (and hence grid or true north), but first things first... and -"\outcsname Elevation looking XXX deg" for maps where the projection is [elevation XXX deg] \edef\tmp{\the\outcsname} \ifx\tmp\empty \else {\the\legendtextsize\ss\the\outcsname { elevation looking 020 deg}\par} \fi As well as detecting that the projection is 'elevation', I need a way of detecting what the elevation bearing is, rather than hard coding it as I have done here Ideas anyone? \survexversion
by Bruce 18 May '15

18 May '15

Hi Something to do for the next release. I'd like to request a new TeX variable to compliment the existing \thversion = current therion version \survexversion = current survex version if survex loop closure algorithm used, = empty (or similar) if therion loop closure used. Thanks Bruce

update to NZSS symbol set
by Bruce 18 May '15

I have a long overdue update for the NZSS symbol set that was added to Therion in 5.3.10 back in 2012. Who should I send it to? Bruce

Its a kind of emergency!
by Konstantinos Trimmis 15 May '15

Dear mappers, The last few years I am experiment in the applications of Therion and Heeb's "paperless mapping" on the archaeological investigation of underground places (Wookie was in one of my presentations in Hidden Earth a couple of years ago). I am ready to leave for fieldwork in Western Balkans from UK, in three weeks time, but my DistoX broke in pieces just yesterday (don't ask... disaster). Is there any kind person out there who can borrow/ loan a Disto until the end of June (return day 1st of July)? I am really desperate! Thanks in advance All the best Kostas p.s. more details about our project at http://balkancavearchaeology.weebly.com/
