Re: [Therion] Point altitude/deph, Help !

Hi all, I think I have found a trick. The other Xavier led me to the right tracks, thanks a lot ! Finally, this is quite simple with the point altitude, and no need to change anything inside the : - If we use the point altitude only with the option -align, we get the altitude - If we use the point altitude with the options -align and -value [-1004 m] where 1004 is the altitude of the main entrance, we print the depth only for that point (Do not forget the " - " before the altitude of the main entrance), and thus, we do not erase the classic point altitude. The only (small) limits are : * If the main entrance changes, we need to manually update ALL the points that print the depth. But that should not be be everyday, and not a big issue to do that. * the symbology of the two points is the same. I will have a look for a way to modify that and let you know if I find a trick (If I copy the code of the point Altitude, and call it p_u_depth(expr pos, R, S, A), it crashes...). Cheers, Xav

How to calculate the volume of a cave
by Bill Gee 31 Jan '22

31 Jan '22

Hello everyone - What tools can be used to calculate the volume of a cave based on center line and LRUD data? I found an email from Martin Sluka from about 4 years ago describing how to use Loch to export a .lox file in other formats, then run that file through CloudCompare or ParaView. The process looks very complex to me, and besides - Loch does not run on my computers, so there is no way for me to generate an export. As far as I can tell, Survex does not have a way to calculate volume. Could it be done with a KML file and Google Earth? -- Bill Gee

Calculation of cave volume
by Bill Gee 28 Jan '22

28 Jan '22

Hello everyone - Several years ago I made a map of a small cave. Among the data that was calculated was an estimation of the volume of the cave. I need to find that information again, but it has so far eluded me. I thought it was in therion.log along with other statistics like length and bounding box dimensions, but now I do not find it there. The estimation was based on solids calculated from centerline and LRUD data. I looked in thTMPDIR and found nothing useful. I also checked to see if it comes from Aven or Loch. Nothing there. I looked through a KML file and found nothing. Can any of you point me in the right direction? Believe it or not, I need to testify in court early next week about this. It's a long story ... Thanks! ======== Bill Gee

Hide symbols within certain maps/subsurveys
by Tarquin Wilton-Jones 20 Jan '22

20 Jan '22

Hi folks, I have a survey of a cave and its surrounding surface area, including all the little caves in the area. So you can basically get an overview of the area, see the surface streams and sinks. Normally, I want the cave survey to be on its own, showing the cave's features, passage names, fill areas, boulders, water flow, etc.. But when I show the area overview, all those features become unimportant, and most labels should be hidden (only the cave names are important). When showing an overview though, I still want to show the surface labels, slopes, cliffs, water flow, arrows, borders, etc. Does anyone have a nice way to hide almost all symbols within one map/subsurvey (the cave), while showing them all within other maps (the surface)? Does Therion have a dedicated way to do this that I missed? Cheers, Tarquin

My take on a new Therion map editor
by Csongor Zih 16 Jan '22

Hi everyone! I'm a university student and I decided to try and make an XTherion replacement as a short term project. I have seen the activity here around making a new version of XTherion that would overhaul the current workflow of Therion projects. These proposals look exciting and great, but what I focused on was just creating an editor for TH2 files, that only replaces the map editor part of XTherion, and otherwise affects nothing about how you use Therion. It is most similar to the TH2 importer and exporter for Inkscape. Demo video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kpogxtt_4TI This is only a feature showcase, the app is not ready to use yet, but you can try it out. The editor was built from the base of a regular vector graphics editing app, similarly to the Inkscape plugin. The whole app runs in a web browser, it's written in JavaScript and TypeScript, and it should run on all modern browsers. I have tried to set a very small scope for this project, this is why I didn't try to create a complete vector graphics editor and used an existing one. There is also no WYSIWYG editing, which would be hard to achieve without reimplementing the whole of Therion (obviously outside the plans for this project). The scope and functionality is significantly smaller than the *QTherion *or *Mapiah *projects, and I would expect that this editor would not be useful once these projects are in a usable state. The editor also has less functionality than XTherion itself, which I see as a trade-off between speed/friendliness and having complete control. One of these is that in this editor all area objects are tied one-to-one with line objects. This may not be how all people use areas, but it is easier to understand and to show on screen, and it's how *TopoDroid *handles it. I think while this app is not everything you might want from an editor, it has clear advantages over XTherion and is more streamlined than the Inkscape plugins, and a lot closer to being complete than the Qt projects currently in development. The project's name is currently wtherion (because it's web-based and because of the other project names), but this may change. It's on GitHub here: https://github.com/daem-on/wtherion Hope that this will be useful in the future and I look forward to your feedback, Csongor

Scallop symbol: elonged option?
by Benedikt Hallinger 05 Jan '22

Hi there, is there a way in which I can stretch the scallop symbol? I have some need for a streched version, but ideally this should probably be an option to the already existing symbol, shouldn't it?
