"\legendbox" "\loadpicture" and absolute paths
by rowena 14 Mar '21

Hello, I am using the "\loadpicture" capability in "\legendbox" constructs to include map sections, elevations, etc. It all works nicely on my PC where I am using relative paths to the pdf files. My club has a desire to archive the map data for posterity - ie if my pc dies or I go walkabout, the map data should still be available so that others can add to the maps as they are extended. I would prefer to have the images included using relative pathnames, rather than absolute pathnames, so that future explorers can download the map data and extend it, without having to duplicate my file hierarchy. How can I include relative paths in the \loadpicture functionality? Thanks, Rowena

Therion's Loch features (incognito) on NZ TV

Loch model of 39 km cave features in this TV news clip at 3:47 (Me carrying two packs on the opening still, and stuck at 2:00) http://www.3news.co.nz/Deepest-cave-discovered-in-our-backyard/tabid/817/art icleID/330973/Default.aspx Centreline data has been processed for the last few(?) decades with a home-made unix application that uses proprietary routines, so will only live while Jonathan is with his current employer. As you might have guessed, an 'export to Therion' routine is being worked on. Bruce

File and folder names in cyrillic
by vladimirg＠mail.bg 12 May '15

Hi Is there a way to use Cyrillic characters in folder and file names? Maybe it is a setting, which can be configured, but therion.exe doesn't seem to handle them. "therion.exe: error -- can't open file for input -- Светата вода/Somecave.th" The thconfig file itself shows the path properly and is encoded in UTF8. Re: [Therion] Therion Digest, Vol 112, Issue 5

Thanks for the help. Generated my first pdf plan and profile with UTM/elevation and xvi file for drawing map. I love how automatic many of these things are. I am feeling hopeful about Therion now. I am stoked to finally finish the maps of Arch, Resonance, and Glory ‘ole and hopefully later this summer we will connect them all to make it at least Canada’s second longest Cave. If I get this working, I’m sure I can convince some other Canadian cavers to use Therion. Then again I can’t even get them to use Walls. Many are still using On Station. I think the speed and flexibility of output with win them over. One tiny annoyance. One of the surveyors last names is von Vorkampff and Therion gives and “invalid name format” error message. I changed it to von_Vorkampff and bypassed the error but with sub par final map output - it says von.Vorkampff Again, thanks for helping me out. I’m sure I’ll have more questions later. Re: [Therion] Therion Digest, Vol 112, Issue 21 data structure

I put my map definitions for each survey at the end of the th2 file. I use the survey name followed by projection as the map name using camel notation e.g. surveyNamePlan This way I always know how to reference the map for any survey without having to look in the file. The maps are then put together in a separate file in the top level folder in a file which I name caveSystemMaps.th where caveSystem is obviously the name of the top level map. I used to use cave system_maps.th as the file name but I've found by using camel notation for all map items it differentiates them from survey names. This file contains all the maps and combinations of maps eg. map caveSystemPlan -title "Cave System Plan" surveyNamePlan surveyName2Plan break lowerLevelsPlan endmap map lowerLevelsPlan surveyName3Plan surveyName4Plan [100 50 m] above endmap A real example can be seen here http://www.cave-registry.org.uk/svn/Sarawak/Mulu/Api/Clearwater/ <http://www.cave-registry.org.uk/svn/Sarawak/Mulu/Api/Clearwater/> in the file clearwater_maps.th This is my template for thconfig files. I just do find and replace surveyName with whatever my survey name is and modify the line #select surveyNamePlan to camel notation. For folder structure I put all output files into a top level folder called output to make it easier to archive everything to a repository excluding the output files which can be reproduced by Therion. This saves a lot of space on the server. encoding utf-8 ######################################## Input ################################################ source surveyName.th input /Users/daveclucas/Documents/caving/surveys/common_layout.th input /Users/daveclucas/Documents/caving/surveys/therionLayouts/layoutscales.thc ######################################## Layouts ################################################ layout layout copy common copy LayoutScale2000 map-header 0 0 off rotate 60 endlayout layout images map-image 0 100 sw ../output/componentElevations/surveyName_elev300.pdf map-header 0 0 nw endlayout layout xviScale scale 1 1000 endlayout layout debug colour map-fg altitude symbol-show point station debug station-names endlayout ######################################## Output ################################################ export model -o ../output/componentModels/surveyName.lox export model -o ../output/componentModels/surveyName.3d #export model -o ..output/componentModels/surveyName.kml #requires a fixed station in survey #export map -o ../output/componentModels/surveyName.kml #requires a fixed station in survey export map -o ../output/componentModels/surveyName.xvi -layout xviScale export map -o ../output/componentModels/surveyName_e300.xvi -layout xviScale -proj [elevation 300] #export map -o ../output/componentElevations/surveyName_elev300.pdf -proj [elevation 300] -layout layout -layout LayoutScale1000 #select surveyNamePlan #export map -o ../output/componentPlans/surveyName.pdf -layout layout -layout LayoutScale1000 #-layout images ################################################################################################# Dave Clucas daveclucas.com <http://daveclucas.com/> sarawak-caves.com <http://sarawak-caves.com/> dave.clucas(a)icloud.com <mailto:daveclucas@icloud.com> Exploring the World - One cave at a time > On 27 Apr 2015, at 04:11, therion-request(a)speleo.sk wrote: > > Send Therion mailing list submissions to > therion(a)speleo.sk > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > http://mailman.speleo.sk/mailman/listinfo/therion > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > therion-request(a)speleo.sk > > You can reach the person managing the list at > therion-owner(a)speleo.sk > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of Therion digest..." > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. Legend symbols: how do I customise these?
by rowena 26 Apr '15

Hi, I am trying to create a legend including the symbol for a line step. I can get the symbol on the map, using a polygon and the “attr c 7” in the options field. The legend shows as a white rectangle. How do I get it to show as a rectangle with lines through it, similar to the step symbol in the map? Rowena

Rob At that source, some data, in this archive: http://www.cave-registry.org.uk/burrington , notably East Twin Swallet, did come from Walls, but was retyped into Survex by hand, as we then had no conversion program available to us. From what I recall, Walls does organise data very differently to Survex and Therion (and Compass). Graham

Rob If you want to see how 'some' therion data sets are organised go to http://www.cave-registry.org.uk/ and take a leisurely look at some examples. Graham

Can I print the legend without a map
by rowena 22 Apr '15

22 Apr '15

Hi, I have a need to produce a pdf list of symbols used in my Therion maps (ie legends), without including a map. I do not want a complete list of all symbols that Therion knows about, only specific ones I have used, those I have customised with colours (as defined in my club standards), and some user defined symbols. I have had almost complete success in creating this by creating a dummy map with all the symbols I want included at random spots. However when I create the pdf I get the dummy map included on the pdf as well as the legend. My config file includes: code tex-map \def\maplayout{ \legendbox{-0}{-10}{NW}{\hsize=20cm\formattedlegend } } How would I create effectively a legend only with no map? Can I turn off the map in the output without turning off the legend? (Note: --print-symbols produces all symbols whereas I only want the ones I have selected) Thanks, Rowena

At this point I have centre line data for two caves connected by fixed points. Thanks for the last tip about cs. No LRUD data is entered yet. I have not done any drawing of walls or passage detail yet. I am just trying to figure out the basics. I am trying to export a kml file with the two cave centrelines but I don’t know how to get a different colour for each cave. I’d like my plan and profile PDFs to have two colours as well.
