Therion's Loch features (incognito) on NZ TV
by Bruce 19 Oct '15

19 Oct '15

Loch model of 39 km cave features in this TV news clip at 3:47 (Me carrying two packs on the opening still, and stuck at 2:00) http://www.3news.co.nz/Deepest-cave-discovered-in-our-backyard/tabid/817/art icleID/330973/Default.aspx Centreline data has been processed for the last few(?) decades with a home-made unix application that uses proprietary routines, so will only live while Jonathan is with his current employer. As you might have guessed, an 'export to Therion' routine is being worked on. Bruce

Therion hanging after compile
by Jenny Black 13 Jan '15

13 Jan '15

Hi, When I compile therion, it appears to compile fine (assuming I haven't made a mistake!), and the green button on the right changes to green, and says "OK", but then it will hang. It is still running, and using lots of CPU, but I cant do anything with it without killing it. This happens either if I compile by hitting F9, or pressing the "compile" button. The same thing happens if I make a mistake and it doesn't compile, but gives me a red "Error" button. When I restart therion, and load back in my files everything works as expected... until I compile it again. I am running therion from debian (unstable) package 5.3.14-1, but I think this also happened in the previous version. Thanks, Jenny ___ Re-sending this message a week later as it didn't appear to reach the list (though i got no bounce message), apologies if you get it twice.

Compiling Therion projects from Notepad++
by Footleg 08 Jan '15

I find having multiple thconfig files open so I can compile different parts of my large cave system project very useful. So I was investgating how to run Therion from Notepad++ (my preferred text editor). This is how I got it working: I wrote a 2 line batch file containing these commands: cd %1 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Therion\therion.exe" %2 Saved to somewhere on disk, and then call it from Notepad++ using the Run command, as follows: On the Run menu in Notepad++, Select the 'Run' item, and enter the command as follows: "C:\Personal\Caving\Therion\compileTherion.bat" "$(CURRENT_DIRECTORY)" "$(FILE_NAME)" (But using the path to where you saved your batch file). Save the command (I called it 'Compile Therion' and gave it the shortcut CTRL+T). Now with any thconfig file open in a tab in Notepad++, I can compile that project by pressing CTRL+T, or by selecting 'Compile Therion' from the Run menu. You can create multiple thconfig files in the same folder on Windows, by giving them any filename you want with the extension .thc or give them no extension at all. That way all the files will be listed in the 'Open File' dialog from the compile tab in xTherion. Next I'll see if I can get my batch file to open the output PDF automatically in Foxit Reader :) But that will be less general because I need to pick a PDF filename which can vary between my thconfig files. Some patches
by Olly Betts 27 Jul '14

27 Jul '14

Hi therioneers, Attached are five patches: therion-document-missing-cs.patch Not all the coordinate systems which therion understands are listed in the manual - this patch adds the missing ones, though I don't know what JTSK03, IJTSK03 or S-MERC are, so please fill in where the '?' are. therion-fix-init-order.patch In C++, class members are initialised in the order declared in the class, and it's clearer if the order of the initialiser list matches the order the members are actually initialised in. Some compilers will issue a warning if they don't match. therion-fix-memory-leak.patch Free the memory proj_init_plus() allocates. therion-fix-typo.patch Fix a typo. therion-remove-unsigned-less-than-zero-checks.patch These checks can never be true, since size_t is unsigned. I've removed them in the patch, though perhaps these checks were intended to be ==0 rather than <0? Cheers, Olly

Symbol different in legend to survey
by Jenny Black 09 Jul '14

09 Jul '14

Hi, I've notice that the area symbols look to be drawn at a different scale on my map than in the legend. I've attached two screenshots - look at the water (the lines are not the same distance apart) an the clay. This appears to happen only if I use base-scale, the attached images are with: scale 1 500 base-scale 1 200 but if I remove the base-scale line the symbols are the same in the legend and map. Am I using the base-scale option incorrectly, is there some way to tell it to apply that to the legend symbols as well as the map symbols? Or is it a bug? In case it makes a difference, I am using some custom symbols defined in my thconfig file (I found these from previous postings on this list, thank you!) Thanks, Jenny

preview above/below in elevation maps?
by Xavier Pennec 16 Jun '14

16 Jun '14

Does anyone has experience with preview above/below in elevation maps? I use it quite often in plan maps, with the expected behavior, but when I try it in an elevation map, the "previewed" map does not appear at all in my pdf neither with below or above. I am wondering if I missed something in the intended behavior or if there is a bug in my layouts (although it does not work either if I don't load them). wxWidgets 3.0.0
by Olly Betts 14 Jun '14

14 Jun '14

I've been fighting to get loch to work with wxWidgets 3.0.0. The first obstacle is that they now enable __WXDEBUG__ mode by default, so misuses of the API result in warning dialogs popping up. I've attached a patch which fixes that, and updates a couple of places where deprecated methods are used. This doesn't get you a fully working loch though - starting loch and loading a file seems to work OK, *if* loch was compiled with optimisation. Starting loch with a file specified on the command line segfaults in the first call to gluScaleImage() in lxData.cxx, though it works when run under gdb or valgrind, so I guess there is a subtle timing issue (and that this might not happen on all machines). There are also more uses of deprecated methods, most notably using an implicit wxGLContext is now deprecated. I tried to update that one, but things seemed to crash a lot - I suspect the underlying problem noted above needs addressing first. I've been testing on Debian unstable (which has packages of wx 3.0.0). Cheers, Olly

Therion on Debian
by Dave Clucas 13 Jun '14

13 Jun '14

I’ve tried running Therion on Debian Wheezy but all I get is the Therion status flash which immediately disappears. If I run it under root terminal I get a Segmentation fault. Is this a distribution problem or am I doing something wrong? Dave Clucas daveclucas.com sarawak-caves.com dave.clucas(a)icloud.com Exploring the World - One cave at a time

Displays in the landscape
by Graham Mullan 09 Jun '14

09 Jun '14

Amongst other things, Julian Todd wrote: "The big idea is that we should be able to walk around the landscape holding our big tablet in front of us giving an X-ray view of the cave underneath us. Maybe you could hold it up against the mountain and see all the cave systems inside of it." An excellent idea, but it does remind me of something I sometimes have a problem with in Aven and Loch. If you are viewing a large area model with lots of passage over a wide area, then the picture can get very 'noisy' as you move around. It may be worth giving an option to fade out all the passage more than a given distance away from the view point so that you can concentrate on the stuff nearest to you without getting your view obscured by stuff that is actually some distance away.
