"\legendbox" "\loadpicture" and absolute paths
by rowena 14 Mar '21

Hello, I am using the "\loadpicture" capability in "\legendbox" constructs to include map sections, elevations, etc. It all works nicely on my PC where I am using relative paths to the pdf files. My club has a desire to archive the map data for posterity - ie if my pc dies or I go walkabout, the map data should still be available so that others can add to the maps as they are extended. I would prefer to have the images included using relative pathnames, rather than absolute pathnames, so that future explorers can download the map data and extend it, without having to duplicate my file hierarchy. How can I include relative paths in the \loadpicture functionality? Thanks, Rowena

Import a scrap into another scrap (or th2-file)
by torstein finnesand 11 Oct '17

Hi fellows, Sometimes I realize that two scraps should have been one (for instance scrap A in A.th2 should have been a part of scrap B in B.th2), in particular when it's difficult to join them. It's easy to insert the xvi file into the scrap B file. But I have to draw it again. Is there any workaround here? Torstein Finnesand Norway

White space along survey lines
by Michael 02 May '16

02 May '16

Hello, Can someone help me with following problem: Survey lines in sketches (not in scraps) bring a white "channel" with them. I.e., white space along the survey lines. The white space makes the sketch beneath partly invisible. See picture. It appears that the white "channel" is derived from LRUD data, because if I omit the LRUD data, the white channel disappears, the survey line displays nicely. I looked at the definitions of l_survey_cave_SKBB and l_survey_cave_UIS (which one is used for symbol set AUT?) but have no idea how to redefine them to ignore LRUD. Michael.

Re: [Therion] XTherion: Line simplification

Super! "Convert to curve" works only if there are not smooth points. The conversion will stop on such point. If you remove the smoothness it will continue. Martin On Apr 06, 2016, at 02:56 PM, Владимир Георгиев <vld.georgiev(a)gmail.com> wrote: In most cases it does, but if the points in a line are too many it still leaves more points than I would like. And some remaining points are still very close together because the line segment had some micro-curves that the Bezier lines tries to preserve. In other cases "Conver to curve" doesn't work and does nothing, but I haven't checked the code to see why. Sometimes I just need a simple "rougher" line without curves so I added this option. This makes them harder to edit, enlarges the TH2 file and slows the compilation. I added a menu Edit line > Simplify line that reduces the points. There is also a setting in xtherion.ini called "xth(gui,me,line,simp_limit)" that controls how smooth/rough the line becomes. A value of 10 seemed to work well for me. One limitation is that Bezier lines become simple lines. I've attached a few screenshots, the patch file, and the xtherion.tcl file. Would be nice is someone can test how it works with their scraps. Vladimir, OllyI have not tested the map colour patch. It looks like you have done a good job. I second Vladimir's suggestions and requests and look forward to the precompiled update! Bruce Sent from my Samsung device, hence the typo's

I use colour by scrap quite often as a drawing aid. Random is fine for that. Colour by map would be the more useful to be able to specify for 'finished presentations'. Colour by map has been discussed and requested from time to time. Bruce Sent from my Samsung device, hence the typo's -------- Original message -------- From: Footleg <drfootleg(a)gmail.com> Date: 11/03/2016 02:25 (GMT+12:00) To: List for Therion users <therion(a)speleo.sk> Subject: [Therion] Setting Scrap Colours I've been doing some more work on my Therion Tutorial, which has led me to explore more options than I typically use. One of these is to colour scraps different colours. All I can find in the Therion Book is how to specify to colour map-fg by altitude or by scrap. If I do either of these then the colours are assigned automatically. I've searched my email history and seen that colour by altitude has been discussed before, but I can't work out if there is supposed to be a way to set the colour for a scrap? If this isn't currently possible, then if would be ideally implemented in the layout so that if is not coded into the drawings of the scraps themselves. Perhaps a syntax to let you specify as follows: colour <scrap name> <colour> Am I missing a way to do this in the existing release? Footleg

2016 NSS Cartographic Salon
by Martin Sluka 03 Apr '16

I think, that it is great opportunity to show results from Therion to cavers world. They are looking for entries to next categories: • Electronic Displays Electronic displays of maps are welcome, as long as the entrant supplies the necessary equipment and is entirely responsible for its set up and security. Such maps should be on display through convention day and evening hours from Monday to Friday noon. Stands or tables for display equipment must be supplied or arranged for by the entrant. • Web Maps Web based maps will be considered for entry by the judges. Innovation in this media is welcome and encouraged. Criteria specific to web based maps have not yet been developed for this salon, but it is likely that the presentation should include features that use the web format to advantage. A plain PDF of a wall map as viewed on a laptop is unlikely to be well received. We will post the web address of the map in the salon area (include the URL on your entry form) or feel free to create your own poster to draw an audience. Maybe show a barcode link for smartphones. The map will be reviewed by judges using a 17-inch laptop (1920 x 1080 resolution), Windows 7, Internet Explorer 8, a three-button (center scroll wheel) wireless mouse, and the local WIFI. • Models Models or other 3D maps are welcome. Stands or tables for models, and any special lighting, must be supplied by the entrant. Check: https://caves.org/committee/salons/Cartographic.shtml m.s.

bad scrap overlay
by Naomi 01 Apr '16

01 Apr '16

Hi, I am new therion user - hello everybody :-) I have a "bad scrap overlay" problem in a cave passage. The setting is very simple: two galleries (one scrap for each), with a junction at the ceilling. The lox file shows everything ok However, my plan pdf map shows the bottom gallery at the top (should be the opposite !). The problem remains with and without joining the scraps. I can't figure why. Could anybody help ? Have you got an idea of the possible reasons for bad scrap overlay ? thanks in advance Naomi
