th_formdef.tex runaway text error
by bruce＠tomo.co.nz 12 Aug '26

12 Aug '26

Hello I've just created an error, due I believe to particular layout changes I've made to a couple of exported elevations, but I'm yet to isolate which changes are the culprits. (It's not related to recent posts I've made on therion/therion: therion <https://github.com/therion/therion> - cave surveying software, and it is consistent across all recent Therion versions) Perhaps someone may know if I can use the therion log information to track down the cause? Using the below information I checked in file thTMPDIR /th_formdef.tex .and found the string \PL{9178.94 283.21 m}% on line 165540. There are 220130 lines overall, and the file seems to end without obvious truncation. That in itself does not help much. I'm sure I'll be able to isolate the cause by other means, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows if I could use this information to locate a cause? Therion runtime cmd window lag on compile with Windows 11
by bruce＠tomo.co.nz 08 May '26

08 May '26

Does anyone notice a long delay after pressing the compile button in XTherion, before the Therion cmd window starts echoing processing progress? Any suggestions as to cause and possible solutions? Interested in setups that do and do not exhibit this behaviour. Around October last year I swapped out my aging Win10 device for a fast new Win11 device. Soon after I noticed that XTherion would 'hang' for 5 - 7 seconds before opening the cmd window that echos Therion's progress through the thconf process. It was around the time that changes were being made to the behaviour of the cmd window, circa 6.3.3+ and I loosely attributed the lag in processing to that. Especially since otherwise Therion would process the thconfigs 2x to 10x faster than with my old device. I've recently being editing projects and needing to compile then every 15 - 30 seconds. The 6 s lag has become tiresome, especially for small runs that otherwise take less than 1 s! Thinking might be a change in Therion I just installed versions back as far as 6.0.5 from around February 2022. The problem persisted so I conclude the lag is due to Win11 or something to do with my current device, and not due to Therion. I've had a browse through Windows Security Smart Application Control and Reputation-based Protection, and disabling likely settings has had no impact. I've tried disabling Virus and Threat Protection settings real-time protection and tamper protection and also no change. Bruce

Mapiah 0.4.1 released - The Barbosilândia release
by Rodrigo Severo 30 Apr '26

30 Apr '26

Hi, Here is a small Mapiah release with just a few bug fixes: https://github.com/rsevero/mapiah/releases/tag/v0.4.1 # Changelog ## 0.4.1 - 2026-04-30 - The [Barbosilândia](https://wikimapia.org/13035906/pt/Barbosil%C3%A2ndia-ou-Bran… release * Fixed bugs: * XVI background files now load correctly when station names contain underscores or UTF-8 characters such as `3R9_nó_agua`, fixing invisible XVI overlays for TopoDroid exports like `Esqueceram_de_mim-1p.xvi` and adding parser/runtime regression coverage. * Reversing a selected line, undoing it, and reversing it again no longer crashes with `Bad state: Parent element does not have option of type THCommandOptionType.reverse`; the toggle now uses the live line state instead of a stale selection clone, and a regression test covers the undo-and-repeat flow. * In single-line edit mode, clicking the endpoint hit area of a Bézier segment whose last control point sits under that endpoint now opens the "Multiple points clicked" chooser so either the endpoint or the control point can be selected reliably, with widget regression coverage for the reported fixture. * Control points in single-line edit mode now use a larger click area than endpoints, making it easier to select a control point near the last endpoint of a Bézier segment in tight layouts such as the reported overlap fixture, with additional widget regression coverage. * Switching to another scrap while in single-line edit mode now resets the editor to the empty-selection state instead of leaving a stale line-edit state behind, preventing crashes when the next click lands on the new active scrap; regression coverage was added for the controller scrap-switch path. * Infrastructure maintenance: * Updated the malformed pre-first-`Save as` path regression in `t0816_mp_directory_aux_test.dart` to assert the normalized `relativePathFromReferencePath()` flow directly, keeping the coverage aligned with the current helper contract. * Fixed `scripts/update_flutter_and_mapiah_version.dart` so its final summary reports release constant and generated release-summary updates instead of saying no files were updated. data dimensions needs actual dimensions!
by Andrew Atkinson 26 Apr '26

26 Apr '26

Hi all In an effort to get better exports from sexytopo I wanted to remove the station comments from the leg to the station so tried data dimensions station ignoreall 2 nv 3 nv 4 nv temp But is complains that there are not enough readings. There does not seem to be a good reason for this as this works fine data dimensions station left right up down ignoreall 2 - - - - nv 3 - - - - nv 4 - - - - nv temp So is there a chance that the first format could be added to Therion. It would also be useful if passage could be added as a synonym for dimensions so the format is the same as Survex reducing confusion As this list generally has a large overlap with Survex especially Olly,I won't also past this again in Survex lists Thanks Andrew

map survey option now causes (fatal) error
by bruce＠tomo.co.nz 24 Apr '26

For a few maps in a few surveys I have been using the -survey option to constrain map statistics to match the underlying survey (page 34-35 of Therion Book). I think some recent version of Therion has broken this. The start of my map definition. map MiddleEarthElev290Map \ -title "Middle Earth and<br>Lower Greenlink Caves<br>Elevation looking 290 deg" \ -projection [elevation 290 deg] \ -survey MiddleEarth # survey option forces map statistics to match the survey The error reported. via Mapiah. Mapiah release 0.4.0: The Pains release
by Rodrigo Severo 22 Apr '26

22 Apr '26

Hi, I have just released Mapiah version 0.4.0. I believe its quite interesting: https://github.com/rsevero/mapiah/releases/tag/v0.4.0 # Changelog ## 0.4.0 - 2026-04-22 - The [Pains](https://www.instagram.com/epapains?igsh=MXdvYXprbGFkc245ZA==) release * Highlights: * Drawing and editing lines is much more fluid: Mapiah quadratic and xTherion cubic smooth creation gained straights↔curves conversion, constrained placement/dragging, node deletion, keyboard nudging, full-path cancel, and quicker entry into single-line edit mode. * Element transforms became a major new editing workflow: selected elements can now be scaled, rotated, and flipped in place with live preview, undoable finalization, improved Inkscape-style handles, and better state-context tools. * Background-image workflows are stronger with Mapiah-only SVG image support, safer path handling during insert and Save as, and immediate zoom/bounds refresh so imported images behave correctly in both new and existing TH2 files. * Repeated drawing tasks are faster thanks to the new last-used point/line/area type strip, which is localized, seeded from existing files, reacts live to edits, and stays accessible in its own scrollable bar above the status area. * The release also rounds out many editor papercuts, including the interactive line simplification dialog, more reliable paste/zoom/tab behavior, persistent bottom action areas in dialogs/settings, and a desktop-only repository cleanup aligned with supported targets. * New features: * While drawing a "Mapiah quadratic" or "xTherion cubic smooth" line, `Shift+L` converts the last (unfinished) segment from a Bézier curve to a straight line and `Shift+U` converts it from a straight line to a Bézier curve (control points placed at one-third and two-thirds of the chord). EN/PT help pages and keyboard-shortcut documentation updated, and widget coverage added. * Pressing `Esc` while drawing an unfinished "Mapiah quadratic" or "xTherion cubic smooth" line now cancels the entire in-progress path and resets to a fresh start within line-creation mode, with help pages and keyboard-shortcut documentation updated (EN/PT) and regression coverage added. * The "Mapiah quadratic" new-line creation method now lets you hold Shift while dragging a fresh control point to constrain it to the nearest multiple of the configured snap angle relative to the shared node. Updated PT help pages and widget coverage alongside the existing xTherion behavior. * Added an optional bottom-of-canvas strip for last-used point, line, and area element types/subtypes in the TH2 editor, shown behind the existing action buttons, localized with the existing PLA naming helpers, and wired to reuse the regular add-element mode transitions. [request by Axel Hack] * Added Mapiah-only SVG background image support with `MPSVGImageInsertConfig`, on-canvas rendering, metadata persistence, import validation for `viewBox` / `width` / `height`, EN/PT help updates, and regression coverage. [request by Axel Hack] * Added an interactive line simplification dialog (`Ctrl+Alt+Shift+L`) with a dedicated state-context FAB, live preview for method and intensity changes, close/save/cancel handling with single-step undo semantics, EN/PT help updates, and regression coverage. * The interactive line simplification dialog is now draggable: right-click-drag on the title bar repositions it anywhere on screen, clamped to screen bounds, consistent with overlay window behaviour. * The Save button in the interactive line simplification dialog now commits the current simplified version as an undoable action without closing the dialog, allowing further adjustments from the committed state. * Added a Reset button to the interactive line simplification dialog that restores method and intensity to their hardcoded defaults (`keepOriginalTypes` / intensity 1) and re-applies the preview. Close and Save both now persist the selected method for next use. * Double-clicking a line or one of its visible line segments on the canvas now enters single-line edit mode, with widget coverage for both hit paths. * Selection-mode element transforms: selected elements can be rotated and scaled in-place via corner handles, with live preview and finalization producing undoable commands. Keyboard nudging, Alt/Shift/Ctrl modifiers, and selection-handle hit-testing were refined to match image transform controls. * When `TH2Edit_EnableElementTransforms` is active, the selection bounding-box handles now render as Inkscape-style arrow handles matching the image transform controls: eight double-arrow scale handles in the default selection state, and four curved-arrow rotation handles in element-rotate mode; the original simple-line handles are shown when the setting is off. * Fixed bugs: * Mapiah quadratic line creation now also supports Inkscape-style deletion of the last drawn node with `Backspace` or `Delete` while drawing. If the deleted node was the only completed segment, Mapiah rolls back to the original start node so drawing can continue from there. Updated EN/PT help pages and keyboard-shortcut documentation, and added widget coverage. * xTherion cubic smooth line creation now supports Inkscape-style deletion of the last drawn node with `Backspace` or `Delete` while drawing. If the deleted node was the only completed segment, Mapiah rolls back to the original start node so drawing can continue from there. Updated EN/PT help pages and keyboard-shortcut documentation, and added widget coverage. * Corner scale-handle cursors were visually inverted due to the Therion/Flutter Y-axis difference; `topLeft`/`bottomRight` now show `resizeUpRightDownLeft` and `topRight`/`bottomLeft` show `resizeUpLeftDownRight`. * After completing a scale or rotation drag, the first subsequent click on a selected element was silently ignored because `_ignoreNextClick` was set on pointer-down but never cleared by the drag-end path; the flag is now reset in `_resetScalePreview` and `_resetPreview` so a single click immediately switches scale↔rotate mode. * The element-rotate state now shows the same context FAB panel as the scale (non-empty selection) state, giving access to simplify, convert, edit-tools, split/join/merge, clipboard, and select-all buttons while in rotate mode. * Clicking an already-selected element in scale mode no longer shows the "multiple elements clicked" dialog before switching to rotate mode; a fast path now checks selection state without a dialog and transitions immediately. * H/V flip FAB buttons are now shown in both element scale and rotate modes, allowing elements to be mirrored horizontally or vertically directly from either transform state. * When a single selected element is a point, the element-transform scale and rotate handles are now hidden even if `TH2Edit_EnableElementTransforms` is enabled. * The bottom strip of last-used PLA type buttons now refreshes immediately when the tracked area/line and point last-used lists change, including point-type edits from the options overlay. * The bottom strip of last-used PLA type buttons now shows a centered divider between the area/line and point groups, with tuned asymmetric spacing so the split reads clearly without crowding either side. * Opening an existing TH2 file now seeds the last-used PLA tracking from the file contents as well as the most-used counters, so the last-used PLA strip is populated immediately from the existing drawing instead of staying on defaults until a later edit. * Opening an existing TH2 file now correctly enables the Select tool / Select all actions as soon as the file loads. The controller now refreshes the selectable-elements flag after load and after active-scrap changes, preventing the button from staying disabled until some later selection-side effect occurred. * The last-used PLA type buttons now live in a dedicated bar above the status bar instead of floating over the canvas, slightly reducing canvas height. The strip no longer overflows when many point types are present, and each side now scrolls horizontally with desktop mouse drag and wheel/trackpad input so hidden buttons remain reachable. * Slope lines whose line segments do not define any `l-size` are now painted with a dedicated special border, matching the existing visual treatment used for invisible elements and elements with THID set. Added dedicated TH2 edit settings to enable or disable each supported special-border type (`visibility off`, `ID set`, and slope without `l-size`), updated the EN/PT settings help pages, and added regression coverage. * Deleting a middle line segment in single-line edit mode now preserves the surrounding curve much more closely by rebuilding the merged Bézier segment from the original entry and exit tangents, with regression coverage for the split-curve case. * Pasting now zooms just enough to reveal the pasted selection when any part of it lands off screen, while leaving the current zoom unchanged when the pasted result is already fully visible. * Subtype option overlays that are pure dropdowns no longer show separate Set/Unset radio buttons; they now include an explicit Unset entry directly in the dropdown, with regression coverage. * The Create new TH2 file dialog now keeps its bottom action buttons visible while the dialog body scrolls by reusing `MPDialogBottomWidget`. * The smooth-line tooltip now correctly advertises the `S` shortcut, and `Ctrl+Shift+S` once again opens the Save As dialog from the TH2 edit page. * `Save as` now rebases imported image paths relative to the new TH2 location before writing the file, so moved SVG background images stay visible both immediately after saving and after reopening the saved file. * Adding background images now stores paths relative to the TH2 file consistently even when tests or callers provide workspace-relative filenames, preventing `PathException` failures during image-insert command creation. * The first `Save as` after creating a new TH2 file and inserting a background image no longer crashes with a `PathException`; new unsaved files now keep imported image paths absolute until the first save location is chosen, then convert them to a relative path from the saved TH2 file, with regression coverage for both the command flow and path rebasing. * Settings page action buttons now stay visible at the bottom while the settings list scrolls, and the footer now reuses `MPDialogBottomWidget` for consistent dialog-style actions. * The interactive line simplification dialog no longer grows taller than its content when the main window is resized. * Updated EN/PT help pages and keyboard-shortcut documentation to include the new element/image transform actions and their modifiers (rotate, scale, flip). Generated localization files (`intl_*.arb` / `app_localizations_*.dart`) were updated accordingly. * The Close button is now the default (prominent) button in the interactive line simplification dialog. * The interactive line simplification dialog now shows a before/after segment count table (total, Bézier, straight) that updates live as the method and intensity change. The first (anchor) segment of each line is excluded from the counts. * Closing a non-visible TH2 tab no longer leaves the editor body showing the wrong file; each tab body now keeps a stable identity, and a regression test covers the close-first-tab flow. * Existing TH2 files are now canonicalized to normalized absolute paths inside `MPGeneralController`, so controller lookup, tab identity, telemetry, and rename/remove flows all use one consistent filename key. * Cross-file paste and duplicate workflows no longer crash when auto-zoom tries to fit a zero-size selection or runs before the destination canvas has a valid viewport; selection-window zoom now guards against zero or non-finite scales. * On newly created TH2 files, background-image insertion now warms raster bounds before the add completes so `Zoom to file` can fit the image immediately. `Zoom to selection` now stays inert when nothing is selected, and the zoom-window FAB once again enters window-zoom mode instead of incorrectly triggering selection zoom. * `Zoom to file` now also invalidates cached TH2/image bounding boxes when image insert configs are added, removed, or replaced, so inserting a background image into a new file immediately refits to the full image instead of keeping the previous tiny default viewport. * Added widget coverage for xTherion cubic smooth Ctrl-drag line creation, checking both the fixed mirrored-handle distance on the current segment and the seeded control point carried into the next segment. * xTherion cubic smooth line creation now supports Inkscape-style corner-node handle separation while drawing: after starting the drag normally, hold Alt without releasing the mouse button to keep the current segment handle fixed and redefine only the next segment's future control point. Updated EN/PT help pages and keyboard-shortcut documentation, and added widget coverage. * xTherion cubic smooth line creation now supports Inkscape-style Shift-constrained node placement while drawing: hold Shift when setting a node to constrain it to the nearest multiple of the configured snap angle relative to the previous node. Updated EN/PT help pages and keyboard-shortcut documentation, and added widget coverage. * xTherion cubic smooth line creation now also supports Inkscape-style Shift-constrained control-point placement while dragging: hold Shift to constrain the future control point to the nearest multiple of the configured snap angle relative to the shared node. Updated EN/PT help pages and keyboard-shortcut documentation, and added widget coverage. * Added widget coverage for the Mapiah quadratic line-creation drag flow, verifying that dragging a newly placed node converts the current segment into a Bézier curve with the expected quadratic-to-cubic control-point geometry and that the conversion persists after release/finalization. * Mapiah quadratic line creation now also supports Inkscape-style Shift-constrained node placement while drawing: hold Shift when setting a node to constrain it to the nearest multiple of the configured snap angle relative to the previous node. Updated EN/PT help pages and keyboard-shortcut documentation, and added widget coverage. * xTherion cubic smooth line creation now supports nudging the last created node with _Arrow_, _Shift+Arrow_, _Alt+Arrow_, and _Alt+Shift+Arrow_ while drawing. The in-progress smooth handles move together with the node, and EN/PT help plus regression coverage were updated accordingly. * Mapiah quadratic line creation now supports the same keyboard nudging shortcuts while drawing (`Arrow`, `Shift+Arrow`, `Alt+Arrow`, `Alt+Shift+Arrow`) for the last created node, with matching EN/PT help updates and regression coverage. * When Therion exits with an error, the Run Therion dialog now stops the elapsed timer immediately and switches from the yellow running status to the final warning/error result without waiting for post-run log collation. Added widget regression coverage for the quick-finish path reported on Windows 11. [reported by CaverBruce] * Infrastructure maintenance: * Removed unsupported iOS and web project scaffolding plus the debug web release workflow, keeping the repository aligned with the desktop-only release targets (Linux, macOS, Windows). * Added the persisted `TH2Edit_ShowLastUsedPLATypeButtons` boolean setting with default `true`, including EN/PT settings-page labels and generated localization updates. The setting is not wired into UI behavior yet. * Added `_lastUsedAreaLineTypes` to `TH2FileEditElementEditController`, keeping a shared last-used list for area and line PLA type/subtype values. The last-used and most-used PLA tracking now stores dedicated `MPPLATypeSubtype` objects instead of string IDs, and `MPTypeUsed` now tracks the same typed value. * Replaced anonymous `{type, subtype}` records used in PLA type/subtype flows with a dedicated `MPPLATypeSubtype` value object that also tracks whether the data belongs to a point, line, or area. * Added `plaTypeSubtypeForNewElement` override support to `TH2FileEditElementEditController`, so new point/line/area creation can temporarily prefer an explicit `MPPLATypeSubtype` over the per-PLA last-used fallback. The old public `lastUsedPointType` / `lastUsedLineType` / `lastUsedAreaType` string getters were collapsed into private helpers, and creation/status flows now use the typed `get*TypeAndSubtypeForNew*()` APIs consistently. * Extracted dedicated TH2 edit widgets for the bottom status bar, the last-used PLA button strip, and the right-side action-button stack, reducing `TH2FileEditBodyWidget` size and keeping those canvas overlays self-contained. * Extracted the TH2 edit top-right state action buttons into `TH2FileEditStateActionButtonsWidget`, moving search/select, snap, default-options, remove, and undo/redo actions out of `TH2FileEditBodyWidget` while preserving their existing behavior. * Extracted the TH2 edit state-context FAB panel into a dedicated widget, moving the top-left mode-specific button groups out of `TH2FileEditBodyWidget` while keeping the existing state-based behavior unchanged. * Reorganized `TH2FileEditStateContextFABsWidget` internally by splitting the single-line and non-empty-selection FAB builders apart and keeping the shared FAB styling and row helpers in a smaller reusable section. * Split the TH2 edit state-context FAB implementation into dedicated panel files plus shared FAB helpers under `lib/src/widgets/th2_file_edit_state_context_fabs/`, leaving `TH2FileEditStateContextFABsWidget` as a small state-based router. * Made the last-used PLA tracking lists reactive with `ObservableList`, and updated the last-used PLA button widget to snapshot those lists inside its `Observer` so content and ordering changes trigger rebuilds reliably. * Added unit/widget test coverage and state-machine refinements for the new element transform states and transform-command finalization paths. * Added `TH2FileEditMoveScaleRotateElementController` and `MPTH2FileEditStateElementRotate` to centralize and enable element/image transform workflows (move, scale, rotate, flip). Selection handles now support drag-to-scale and corner-handle rotation with optional pivot locking (Shift) and angle snapping (Ctrl/Meta). Mirror (flip) actions (`H` / `V`) and undoable transform commands were added, with matching state-machine integration. * flutter upgraded to 3.41.7 Regards, Rodrigo

Mapiah version 0.3.5 released: The Dental Nerve release
by Rodrigo Severo 09 Apr '26

09 Apr '26

Hi, I have just released Mapiah version 0.3.5 - The [Dental Nerve](https://xkcd.com/846/) release. I believe the repositioning (and scaling and rotationg) background issue discussed recently in this list is properly dealt with on this release. # Changelog ## 0.3.5 - 2026-04-09 - The [Dental Nerve](https://xkcd.com/846/) release * Highlights: * Background image editing was rebuilt into an Inkscape-style transform workflow with move, scale, rotate, flip, reset, keyboard nudging, and much better on-canvas handles, cursors, and undo/redo behavior. * Drawing and editing got several new productivity tools: merge areas (`Ctrl+M`), join lines at coinciding extremities (`Ctrl+J`), convert line segments between straight and Bézier (`J` / `Shift+J`), and keyboard nudging for images, selected elements, and single-line points. * Therion and editor settings were cleaned up with a dedicated Therion section, backward-compatible setting renames, configurable snap angle and nudge factor, optional extra debug logging, and better startup/run diagnostics. * Many workflow polish fixes landed across startup, overlays, scrap/image panels, and image editing, making mode switches, dragging, handle feedback, and file-opening behavior more reliable. * New features: * Background image transform mode now supports direct flipping with `H` / `V`, negating `xScale` or `yScale` respectively for the active image, with matching state-context FAB buttons and undo support. * Join lines at coinciding extremities (Ctrl+J). * Change 'Split line' shortcut from Ctrl+Shift+P to Ctrl+P. * Merge areas (Ctrl+M): when multiple selected areas or border lines belong to the same area set, Mapiah now merges their LTSA borders into the minimum number of closed output lines and replaces them with a single area referencing those merged borders. * Convert line segments between straight and Bézier types with `J` / `Shift+J`, available both for selected whole lines in selection mode and for selected non-start line segments in single-line-edit mode, with matching state-context FAB actions and undo support. [request by Axel Hack] * Renamed Therion settings from `Main_TherionExecutablePath` / `Main_TherionRunParameters` to `Therion_ExecutablePath` / `Therion_RunParameters`, added legacy settings-file read compatibility for the old names, moved them into a dedicated Therion settings section, and updated EN/PT help pages plus regression tests. * Renamed the image-rotation snap setting to `TH2Edit_SnapAngle`, updated the default constant name to `mpDefaultSnapAngle`, changed the UI label to "Snap angle" / "Ângulo preferencial", and documented the setting in the EN/PT settings help pages. * Added the `TH2Edit_NudgeFactor` setting as a persisted double with default `2.0`, including settings-page labels, keyboard nudge support for selected images and selected elements, and regression coverage for the default-value path. * Added the `Therion_DebugLog1` boolean setting with default `false`, wired it to gate the extra Therion startup/run diagnostics introduced for troubleshooting, updated the settings/help text in EN/PT, and added regression coverage for the new setting and log-toggle behavior. * Image move mode now supports keyboard nudging: `Arrow` moves the selected image by `TH2Edit_NudgeFactor`, `Shift+Arrow` by 10x that value, `Alt+Arrow` by 1 screen pixel, and `Alt+Shift+Arrow` by 10 screen pixels. Updated the EN/PT file-edit help pages and keyboard-shortcuts pages, with regression tests for all four shortcut variants. * Selected elements in selection mode now support the same keyboard nudging shortcuts as image move mode: `Arrow` moves by `TH2Edit_NudgeFactor`, `Shift+Arrow` by 10x that value, `Alt+Arrow` by 1 screen pixel, and `Alt+Shift+Arrow` by 10 screen pixels. Updated the EN/PT file-edit help pages and keyboard-shortcuts pages, with regression tests for all four shortcut variants. * Selected end/control points in single-line edit mode now support the same keyboard nudging shortcuts as image move mode: `Arrow` moves by `TH2Edit_NudgeFactor`, `Shift+Arrow` by 10x that value, `Alt+Arrow` by 1 screen pixel, and `Alt+Shift+Arrow` by 10 screen pixels. Updated the EN/PT file-edit help pages and keyboard-shortcuts pages, with regression tests for the end-point and control-point paths. * Fixed bugs: * Refactored Therion debug-log setting access so startup and run diagnostics now read the shared `isTherionDebugLog1Enabled` helper from `MPSettingsController`, removing duplicated per-class lookups and keeping the implicit `false` bool default path. * Updated the EN/PT Run Therion help pages to refer to the renamed `Therion_RunParameters` setting instead of the legacy `Main_TherionRunParameters` name. * Startup file handling is now serialized ahead of telemetry consent and update checking: when Mapiah is launched with TH2/THConfig command-line arguments or via file association, the initial open/run action now completes before any startup dialogs can appear, reducing dialog-order races during Windows Therion troubleshooting. * Arrow-key image nudging now repeats correctly in all directions, including `ArrowUp`: the canvas key listener now forwards `KeyRepeatEvent`s and marks arrow keys as handled so Flutter focus/navigation does not steal them after the first move. * Switching image transform mode by clicking the active image now updates the visible handles immediately instead of waiting for mouse movement. State changes into `movingElements` and single-line move states now also trigger immediate redraws so selection handles and end/control-point edit visuals refresh as soon as the mode changes. * Settings page: boolean setting labels now use the same text style as the other setting labels, so "Show direction ticks on non-selected lines" no longer appears larger than the rest. * The available-scraps and available-images overlays are now mutually exclusive: opening one closes the other first, so the two panels can no longer stay open at the same time. * During background image edit mode, clicking elsewhere on the canvas now closes the available-images overlay and exits the image-edit state only for that outside-canvas dismissal path, while clicks on the image, its scale handles, or overlay buttons keep the edit state unchanged. * Background images now have a reset action in the available-images list: the new button sits next to edit, restores translation/scale/rotation plus image and XVI-grid visibility to their default state, preserves the XVI root, and converts the reset result back to a `THXTherionImageInsertConfig`. * Available scraps now lists scraps in the reverse order of TH2 storage so the top row matches the topmost scrap on the canvas, while drag-and-drop still reorders the stored TH2 scrap sequence correctly. * Background image editing now uses one combined transform mode instead of separate move/scale states: the active image shows Inkscape-style black resize handles, dragging the image still moves it, dragging handles scales it with `Ctrl` aspect-ratio lock, `Shift` symmetric scaling, and `Alt` fine control, and the first true scale action converts legacy XTherion images to `MPImageInsertConfig` while preserving undo/redo and runtime image caches. * Background image edit overlays now match Inkscape more closely by drawing the resize handles as outward black scale arrows and removing the brown editable-image border. * Background image corner scale handles now keep a true 45-degree orientation relative to the image box instead of drifting with the image aspect ratio. * Background image editing now has a first dedicated image-move workflow: each image row exposes an edit toggle before delete, entering move mode highlights the active image on the canvas with a mode label, dragging follows current snap targets from the image's top-left anchor, and the resulting move stays undoable for both legacy-converted and Mapiah-backed image inserts. * Background image scale handles now react more reliably in the live canvas: resize drags are anchored to the true image edge instead of the offset visual handle center, and handle hit-testing accepts the painted handle footprint instead of only a small fixed box. * Background image scale handles now show hover feedback on the live canvas: the hovered arrow keeps a slightly thicker black outline while its interior fills cyan, making the active resize handle easier to spot before dragging. * Background image move/scale mode now updates the mouse cursor by hover target: the image body shows the move hand, scale handles show direction-matching resize cursors, empty canvas falls back to the normal arrow, and the diagonal corner cursors now match the visible handle directions. * Background image move mode now supports Inkscape-style drag modifiers: `Alt` starts moving the selected image even when the drag begins away from the image body, `Ctrl` constrains the move to the dominant horizontal or vertical axis, and `Shift` temporarily disables snapping, with the modifiers working in combination. * Selected element dragging now supports the same move modifiers as background images: `Alt` starts moving the current selection even when the drag begins away from the selected element, `Ctrl` constrains the move to the dominant horizontal or vertical axis, and `Shift` temporarily disables snapping. * Single-line end/control point dragging now supports the same move modifiers as background images: `Alt` starts moving the current point selection even when the drag begins away from the selected point, `Ctrl` constrains the move to the dominant horizontal or vertical axis, and `Shift` temporarily disables snapping. * Refactored move-modifier handling for selected elements, single-line end/control points, and background-image moves into one shared state-machine helper so the `Alt`/`Ctrl`/`Shift` drag behavior now lives in a single implementation. * Alt+click scrap switching now also works when a file has exactly two scraps, so clicking inside the other scrap no longer gets blocked by the minimum-scrap guard. * Background image editing now includes a dedicated rotate mode: clicking the selected image while already in move/scale mode toggles into rotation, the overlay switches to curved corner handles plus a pivot marker, rotation and pivot dragging are undoable through Mapiah image-insert commands, legacy XTherion image inserts are converted on first rotate entry, `Ctrl` snaps rotation to the configured angle, `Shift` keeps the opposite corner fixed, and XVI images with an `xviRoot` show a disabled non-draggable pivot. * Background image rotation handles now keep the curved corner arrows proportionate and oriented correctly, instead of appearing squeezed and rotated away from the expected corner direction. * Raster background images now default their rotation pivot to the image center until the user explicitly drags the pivot marker, and the chosen pivot position stays preserved through rotation undo/redo and Mapiah image metadata. * While the available-images or available-scraps panel is open, the top-right `Snap` and `Remove` action buttons are now hidden so those management modes no longer show unrelated canvas actions, and the change-image/change-scrap overlay visibility now updates reactively enough for full widget coverage of that toolbar behavior. * Raster background images are no longer painted upside down: the bitmap is now flipped back inside its existing transform, keeping the image box, handles, and interaction geometry unchanged. * Available images now lists backgrounds in the reverse order of TH2 storage so the top row matches the topmost image on the canvas, while drag-and-drop still reorders the stored TH2 image sequence correctly. * `MPXVIImageInsertConfig` now preserves `isGridVisible` through `toMap()`/`fromMap()`, so Mapiah-side XVI image metadata no longer drops the grid-visibility state when cloned or deserialized. * Scrap `-stations` now follows Therion's single-argument rule: a single station may stay bare, quoted or bracketed station lists are split on spaces, and Mapiah always writes multiple stations back as a bracketed list. * Merge areas: selected LTSA borders are now always treated as closed during merge, split at all crossings (including internal crossings and self-crossing Bézier segments), and validated so leftover segments are discarded only when they are strictly internal to the chosen outer boundary. * Add area by clicking existing lines: when clicked lines had no THID yet, only the last clicked line ended up referenced by the new area. The add-area flow now wraps the area creation command only on the first clicked border and keeps later clicks as pure border additions, so all clicked lines remain attached to the area. * Select all (Ctrl+A) now works while the editor is in the "add line border to area" state, so you can leave that mode by selecting all elements without cancelling the flow first. * Renamed the "Node edit" tool/button to "Node/line edit" to reflect that the same mode is used to edit both line nodes and line-level geometry. * Default options overlay no longer offers the point `-name` option, and its hidden-option exclusions are now maintained in one static list in the option edit controller. * Scrap `-stations` options now preserve bracketed station lists in memory, so fixtures like `[1.35 1.36 1.37]` are parsed into individual stations instead of being dropped or collapsed into one string. [reported by Axel Hack] * Internal links inside help pages now jump to the correct section within the same document, including headings with accents such as `Bézier curve line segments`. [reported by Axel Hack] * Point stations now remember the last `-name` that was set, auto-assign the next unused station name within the active scrap when creating a station point or converting a point to type `station`, and keep the type change and auto-name assignment as two separate undo steps for point-to-station conversions. [request by Axel Hack] * The `-extend`, `-from`, and `-name` option editor now splits station references into `station name` and optional `survey` fields, validates them with Therion keyword rules, and shows the encoded `@` separator explicitly in the UI. * Removed the point `-extend` option from parsing and editing because Therion does not support it. * Fixed flaky UI test `t3202_ui_open_file_then_new_file_test`: window-title updates now go through a safe async helper that ignores missing `window_size` plugin registrations in widget-test and unsupported-platform environments, avoiding uncaught plugin-channel failures from the package's `void async` API. * Point stations now expose the `-from` option in the option list, matching Therion's support for choosing the origin branch for station points in extended-elevation scraps. * Normalized freshly written `xth_me_image_insert` entries so simple `yy` values are emitted as bare numbers like `28` instead of single-value braces like `{28}`, while keeping wrapped output for composite `yy xviRoot` payloads. * Infrastructure maintenance: * Added Therion startup/run diagnostics for Windows command-line troubleshooting: Mapiah now logs the raw startup arguments, parsed launch mode, current directory, run attempt number, resolved THConfig path, process working directory, configured Therion executable path, and configured run parameters to help compare the initial automatic run with `Rerun Therion`. * Moved the available-images reset workflow out of `MPAvailableImagesWidget` and into `TH2FileEditMoveScaleRotateElementController`, keeping the widget as a thin UI trigger and centralizing image-transform business logic with the other move/scale/rotate actions. * Replaced remaining image-transform helper magic numbers with shared constants, including handle sizing, overlay border width, and named handle-group sets used by the resize-axis logic. * Extracted the pure image-rotation preview calculations out of `MPTH2FileEditStateImageRotate` into `mp_image_transform_aux.dart`, keeping the state focused on interaction flow while shared transform math now lives beside the other image geometry helpers. * Updated EN/PT image-edit help and keyboard-shortcut pages for the new transform workflow, and brought both TH2 edit help-page indexes back in sync with their actual section headings. * Extracted TH2FileEditMoveScaleRotateElementController: moved move, scale, and rotate-related element/image workflow code out of the generic element-edit controller so transform logic now lives in its own MobX store, instantiated directly by TH2FileEditController. * Completed Phase 6 state-machine preparation for Mapiah image inserts: the editor now has dedicated `imageScale`, `imageMove`, and `imageRotate` states, image-edit controller entry points lazily convert legacy XTherion images before entering those states, and the state controller now tracks which image each MP-only image state owns for future transform actions. * Refined the shared image runtime contract so both `THXTherionImageInsertConfig` and `MPImageInsertConfig` expose their common base placement APIs through the same mixin, removing the remaining image-family switches from move commands, image state handling, bounding-box aggregation, and generic image collection paths while keeping type-specific branching only where XTherion and Mapiah behavior still genuinely differs. * Completed Phase 5 of the Mapiah image-insert migration: image add/remove command paths and controller removal now accept both legacy XTherion and Mapiah-backed image entries, the shared command/controller APIs were renamed to generic image-insert terminology, and MP-only image transform preparation lazily converts legacy XTherion image inserts into `MPImageInsertConfig` with stable MPIDs, preserved image semantics, and undo/redo coverage. * Renamed the underlying image-insert command enum values from XTherion-specific names to generic `addImageInsertConfig` / `removeImageInsertConfig`, keeping the command classes, command factory wiring, and undo-text mapping aligned with the mixed-image runtime model. * Split the legacy XTherion image model into `THXVIXTherionImageInsertConfig` and `THRasterXTherionImageInsertConfig`, keeping the old `THXTherionImageInsertConfig` factory-style entry points while moving raster/XVI-specific runtime state into the matching subclasses and preserving legacy XTherion writer output. * Aligned the legacy XTherion image codec with the Mapiah image model by adding a `format` discriminator to `THXTherionImageInsertConfig`, moving `xviRoot` fully behind the XVI runtime interface, and routing `fromMap()` by subtype before reading XVI-only fields. * Finished folding the remaining runtime `isXVI` branches into the new image adapters, so the available-images UI and the legacy XTherion runtime helpers now follow the same `asXVIImage`/`asRasterImage` path as the rest of the mixed-image runtime flow. * Refined the runtime image abstraction for mixed XTherion/Mapiah image entries by adding dedicated raster/XVI runtime interfaces plus `asRasterImage`/`asXVIImage` adapters, removing the remaining format switches from image widgets and related controller paths. * Completed Phase 4 runtime preparation for the new Mapiah image-insert model: runtime image loading/rendering paths now accept both legacy `THXTherionImageInsertConfig` and Mapiah-backed image entries, while raster/XVI loading stays in the descendant models and regression coverage now includes mixed-image runtime access plus XVI runtime cache/grid-visibility syncing. * Completed Phase 3 writer integration for the new Mapiah image-insert metadata model: `##MAPIAH## image_insert_v1` entries now serialize in the same top-level config block as XTherion settings and image inserts, preserving the file order among mixed config entries, with regression coverage for the shared block ordering. * Added Phase 2 parser regression coverage for the new Mapiah image-insert metadata model, including explicit tests for XTherion image inserts, Mapiah raster/XVI entries, malformed `##MAPIAH## image_insert_v1` lines, and mixed files containing both persisted image styles. Malformed Mapiah image inserts are now reported as parser errors instead of aborting file parsing. * Simplified the main `MPImageInsertConfig` raster/XVI constructors to take plain `double` values with defaults for transform fields, while keeping the string-based parsing path in `MPImageInsertConfig.fromString()` and extending regression coverage for both constructor styles. * Added Phase 1 of the new Mapiah image-insert metadata model: `MPImageInsertConfig` base/XVI/raster classes, versioned `##MAPIAH## image_insert_v1` parser/writer support, and regression tests for codec and TH2 round-tripping. * Added regression coverage for line-segment type conversion, including mixed lines, same-type no-op conversions, multi-line selection conversion, keyboard shortcuts (`J` / `Shift+J`), and undo restoration. Updated EN/PT help pages and keyboard-shortcuts documentation for the new actions. * Added `MPElementEditAux.getNextStationName()` plus unit tests covering station-name increment rules for numeric, alphabetic, separator-terminated, and survey-suffixed names. * Added merge-area regression tests covering crossing mixed straight/Bézier border cases, including open borders that must be auto-closed before merging and a self-crossing Bézier border case that must be treated as an intersection during merge. * TH2FileEditSplitMergeController now routes its snackbar messages through the local `_showSnackbar()` helper instead of repeating the same `ScaffoldMessenger` boilerplate at each call site. * Updated TH2 file edit help pages (EN/PT) to document the join-lines-at-coinciding-extremities and merge-areas actions more accurately, including index entries and current selection/merge behavior. * Renamed top-level test files to analyzer-friendly lowercase underscore names (with a `t` prefix before numeric ordering keys), removing the `file_names` lint noise from `flutter analyze`. * Cleaned up the remaining analyzer infos by fixing doc comments, removing redundant source getters that duplicated MobX `@readonly` generated getters, and dropping a shadowing `snapController` field plus two unnecessary test imports so `flutter analyze` now reports no issues. * Split the historical 0.2 and 0.3 TODO sections out of `TODO.md` into dedicated `TODO-0.2.md` and `TODO-0.3.md` files, leaving the main TODO focused on current and future roadmap items. * Fixing ext_keyword parsing. * Added regression coverage for controller-driven station-name generation, active-scrap station-name collision skipping, automatic station naming on point creation, and the separate undo steps when converting a point into a station. * Added parser regression coverage for point station names written as `-station`, complementing the existing `-name` read tests while keeping normalized output on `-station`. * Renamed `THStationNameCommandOption`'s stored parameter from `reference` to `name` and updated station-name parser, UI, controller, and regression-test call sites to match. Resizing or scaling a replacement background image
by Bill Gee 07 Apr '26

Hello everyone - I am not sure how this should be handled, or if it even CAN be handled ... A few weeks ago we went to a section of a cave where the original sketch has some problems. Rather than resketch the entire section, we took the original sketch and made corrections directly on it. Now I want to update the Therion map. Six months ago I used the original sketch as the background of a .th2 file, then drew as much as I could figure out. Since the update is on the same piece of paper, I figured I could just replace the original drawing background with a scanned image of the updated sketch. It did not work. The new scanned background comes in about 1/5 as big as it needs to be. The original elements I drew do not match up, so I cannot draw the new stuff on it. I think the reason is that the original background and the new background were scanned at different resolutions. I did not scan them. The old background image is 2550x3300 pixels and the new is 908x1200 pixels. What do you suggest? Is there a way to stretch the new background so it fits under the existing drawing? It might be easiest to ask for a rescan. The new scan might still not line up. Is there a way to shift the background? I think there is. I have managed to do it a few times by accident. No idea what keys I hit when that happens. I have to close the .th2 without saving, then open and start again. -- =============== Bill Gee

Mapiah release v0.3.4 - The Back Pain release.
by Rodrigo Severo 04 Apr '26

04 Apr '26

Hi, Mapiah version 0.3.4 - The [Back Pain](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_pain) release is available. # Changelog ## 0.3.4 - 2026-04-04 - The [Back Pain](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Back_pain) release * Highlights: * **Ctrl+A and Ctrl+V in add-element states** let you select all elements or paste clipboard content without first cancelling the add operation; an in-progress line is auto-finalized first. * **Extra Therion run parameters** can be typed directly in the Run Therion dialog (persisted as `Main_TherionRunParameters`) and passed via the new `--therion_run_parameters` CLI argument. * **Bézier–Bézier line splitting** completes full crossing-split support: all segment-pair combinations (straight–straight, Bézier–straight, Bézier–Bézier) are now handled when splitting selected lines at intersections (Ctrl+Shift+X). * New features: * Select all (Ctrl+A) and paste (Ctrl+V) now work in add-element states (add area, add line, add point): pressing Ctrl+A or clicking the new select-all FAB selects all elements and exits the add mode; pressing Ctrl+V or clicking the paste FAB pastes clipboard content. For add-line, any in-progress line is finalized first (same as pressing Enter) before the action is performed. * Therion run parameters: a new text field in the Run Therion dialog lets users enter extra Therion command-line options (e.g. `-d` for debug) that are passed to Therion on every run. The value is persisted as the `Main_TherionRunParameters` setting and can also be set via the `--therion_run_parameters` command-line argument. Closes [#20](https://github.com/rsevero/mapiah/issues/20). * Split selected lines at crossings: when two or more lines are selected, pressing Ctrl+Shift+X (or using the new state-context FAB action) splits the selected lines at detected intersection points, preserving options and generating sub-line IDs with numeric suffixes (for lines that already have IDs). Now supports all segment-pair combinations: straight–straight, Bézier–straight, and Bézier–Bézier. Bézier–Bézier intersection is found via recursive AABB subdivision (de Casteljau), and the resulting sub-curves are correctly split using the same de Casteljau algorithm. The action is fully undoable. * Fixed bugs: * Split at crossings (Bézier curves): fixed incorrect split point and control-points on final Bézier segment when the same Bézier curve is crossed by a straight line at multiple points. Root cause was twofold: (1) later crossing parameters on the same segment were applied directly to the original Bézier, but they needed reparameterization onto the remaining sub-curve after each earlier split; (2) the final sub-line was being built from the original segment in the file, not from the locally updated remainder segment after successive splits, causing it to retain the original endpoint and control-point definitions. Fixed by reparameterizing repeated crossings onto the current remainder and assembling sub-lines from the locally maintained segment list. * Run Therion dialog: keep status shown as 'Running' until all post-run processing completes (including appending therion.log and aggregating issues); final status (`Ok`, `Warning`, or `Error`) is displayed only after processing finishes. Closes [#21](https://github.com/rsevero/mapiah/issues/21). * "Rerun Therion" toolbar button now enabled after running Therion (via button or command-line `--thconfig`) even when Therion reports an error or is unavailable; the THconfig path is now always stored so the user can fix settings and rerun without re-picking the file. * MPHelpButtonWidget now uses `mpLocator.appLocalizations` directly instead of attempting to retrieve localizations from context, ensuring consistent localization access across the app. * Infrastructure maintenance: * Elapsed time in the Run Therion dialog now updates live every second via a `Timer.periodic` + `ValueNotifier<Duration>`, so only the elapsed time text rebuilds — not the whole dialog. * Added EN/PT help pages (`run_therion_help`) for the Run Therion dialog, and a help icon button in the dialog actions row. Updated to document the `--therion_run_parameters` CLI argument. * Updated EN/PT help pages (`mapiah_home_help`) to document the `--therion_run_parameters` command-line argument. * Updated EN/PT settings help pages (`mp_settings_page_help`) to document the `Main_TherionRunParameters` setting. * Included launch.json and pre-commit hook examples. * Pre-commit hook ported to work on Windows (replaced `sed -i` with portable `mktemp`/`echo`/`cat`/`tail`/`mv` equivalents). * Pre-commit hook now always prints "Running pre-commit hook…" so execution is easy to confirm. Regards, Rodrigo
