"\legendbox" "\loadpicture" and absolute paths
by rowena 14 Mar '21

Hello, I am using the "\loadpicture" capability in "\legendbox" constructs to include map sections, elevations, etc. It all works nicely on my PC where I am using relative paths to the pdf files. My club has a desire to archive the map data for posterity - ie if my pc dies or I go walkabout, the map data should still be available so that others can add to the maps as they are extended. I would prefer to have the images included using relative pathnames, rather than absolute pathnames, so that future explorers can download the map data and extend it, without having to duplicate my file hierarchy. How can I include relative paths in the \loadpicture functionality? Thanks, Rowena

Import a scrap into another scrap (or th2-file)
by torstein finnesand 11 Oct '17

Hi fellows, Sometimes I realize that two scraps should have been one (for instance scrap A in A.th2 should have been a part of scrap B in B.th2), in particular when it's difficult to join them. It's easy to insert the xvi file into the scrap B file. But I have to draw it again. Is there any workaround here? Torstein Finnesand Norway

Therion's Loch features (incognito) on NZ TV
by Bruce 19 Oct '15

19 Oct '15

Loch model of 39 km cave features in this TV news clip at 3:47 (Me carrying two packs on the opening still, and stuck at 2:00) http://www.3news.co.nz/Deepest-cave-discovered-in-our-backyard/tabid/817/art icleID/330973/Default.aspx Centreline data has been processed for the last few(?) decades with a home-made unix application that uses proprietary routines, so will only live while Jonathan is with his current employer. As you might have guessed, an 'export to Therion' routine is being worked on. Bruce

The goal with joining scraps
by torstein finnesand 25 Aug '15

Hi folks, some questions about the join command. We join scraps to make nice pdf-maps or other two-dimensional maps like svg, xhtml and kml. Of course, this is a very good reason. 1. But are there other reasons to do it? For instance, do joins have any influence on other exports, like the maps (walls) in aven or the models in loch? I did a simple preliminary test, and couldn't find any difference whether the scraps were joined or not. 2. Do you always joins the scraps? Are there some situations when its not necessary, or even wrong, to join scraps? Torstein Finnesand Norway

Colour control
by Graham Mullan 20 Aug '15

Is it possible to ask for more & better control over the use of colour? One of the ways in which this is useful is in allowing viewers to quickly match the same parts of a cave between plan and elevation. This can be done in a straightforward manner if you have one plan and one elevation as the maps (in colour by map) can be placed in matched order and so get allocated the same colours in sequence. Where one has more than one elevation, however, in the example I am working on we have three different elevations all on different projections. Different maps are used for each and, obviously, they do not get the same full set that the plan gets. Colour matching thus becomes impossible except by using cheats of such complexity that my brain fell over. The final match can be done in an image editor, I imported my final pdf into Gimp, did the match & exported it as a pdf again (Gimp can be recommended for this) but it would be nice to be able to control the whole process in Therion. Data Management
by Nick Bairstow 19 Aug '15

19 Aug '15

Hi all, After lots of trial and error I am now producing some good outputs of individual caves but now I have hit a wall. I believe I'm not getting the data management correct. Here's what I do, I have a folder for the area/system in that folder I have other folders for the individual caves; this is where my Top Parser produced th2 .th and config files first landed. I also have all the Therion produced outputs in these files. So far so good I think. All works well, good outputs from pdf's to kml's. Now I want to produce a pdf of the area/system using these separate caves but try as hard as I may I'm just not succeeding. I have read all the stuff on the wiki over and over and checked back though this mailing list but all my attempts at this output have failed. Next plan of attack was to look at other people's data in the Cave Registry Data Archive which helped and I now see how the .th and config files should look but I am still missing something some where. I keep seeing snatches of info about index files but can find no definitive instruction on how to use them. I realise this problem probable has a simple solution and given enough time I am sure I can work it out but life's too short to dick about for hours especially when someone out there has the answer. Also I have a deadline looming on some of these maps and I'm now getting a bit worried I will not make it. Any help would be appreciated and if anyone in the Yorkshire area wants to compare notes (I'm sure that there are more numptys like me out there) I will travel and bring beer. Nick.

Different selections in map outputs?
by Andrew Atkinson 11 Aug '15

11 Aug '15

Hello I can output 2 pdf plans using export map -proj plan -layout mendip -o Reads.pdf and export map -proj plan -layout overview -o Reads.pdf This allows me to have different layouts, but always the same selection So the second is at a different scale and only has walls, no detail. But for the second I need to select the surface where I do not want this on the first. Is there a way of doing it all in the same thconfig file, currently I have only managed to do it with separate files (or editing the select before each compile) but it would be great if they could both be generated from one. (I then use the pdf of the overview and the elevation in the plan, so one file can then generate my final output, currently I have to remember to compile from 2 different thconfigs) Andrew

Hello Is there any way to use Therion without admin rights on a Windows machine (at this point I realise I should have asked them what version of windows, but failed to) thanks Andrew

Forcing Therion to print centerlines only
by Michael 02 Aug '15

02 Aug '15

Hello, Having the need to produce a map showing only centerlines with station names, I forced Therion to produce such by removing all "input *.th2" statements. With growing number of such statements in various files this becomes unmangeable. Is there a way (a switch) to force Therion to print only all centerlines, without any scraps or sketches? I tried "unselect" but that command appears not to work. Michael.
