Cleaning up folders and temp files
Hi After I compile a project I end up with several files that I don't need like: .xtherion.dat - don't know what it is therion.log and a couple of temp PDFs that I compile and then merge into a final PDF that contains both plan and elevation Is there a way to delete all of those or at least prevent therion from generating them? I don't really look at the therion.log file. In the examples I see commands like: #!CLEAN rabbit.lox rabbit-plan.pdf rabbit-xelev.pdf but it doesn't seem to do anything and uncommenting it causes an error. Hi Vladmir, You can put commands in your thconfig file to delete the unwanted files after the "export" command. Therion Book, page 46: ‘system’Allows to execute system commands during therion compilation. 53 Normally Therionwaits until the subprocess is finished. If you want to continue compilation without break, use & syntax on Linux and start syntax on Windows. Thanks Rowena A command like this worked for the temp pdfs that I don't need. `system "del sometempfile.pdf"` How about the therion.log and .xtherion.dat files? They seem to be created after the last line in thconfig is executed so they can't be deleted with "system ..." One solution that comes to mind is to create a batch file that waits for a couple of seconds and then deletes those two files after therion has finished with them. There is probably a cleaner solution though. Which raises the next question I tried the batch file approach with this command `system "start removefiles.bat"` The file removefiles.bat sleeps for 5 seconds and then tries to delete therion.log. The thing is that I might be using `system start...` incorrectly because Therion still waits for it to finish. Hi Rowena, Thanks for the hint. Your mail made me realise that using "system therion config2.th" within config1.th could be a solution to launch automatically the compilation of several maps (e.g. with the same projection) from a single config file. I will test that soon. Xavier Le 14/11/2014 00:48, rowena_l@tpg.com.au a écrit :

Vladimir I find .xtherion.dat and therion.log to be useful files, and would not want to automate their deletion as a matter of course. .xtherion.dat allows Xtherion to populate the Survey Structure, Survey Information and Map Structure panels to the right of the window, on opening a thconfig file, based on the last compile (assuming it was successful). If you double-click the map or survey it will add a select statement for that object to the thconfig file. If .xtherion.dat is deleted, then you will need a successful compile before you get this functionality. With very large projects this can take quite some time. therion.log can contain information that identifies the reason for an unsuccessful compile. If you delete it automatically, many of your clues are erased. Both these files are overwritten on successful runs, and are quite small, so I think two files per folder containing thconfigs is a small price to pay. Only thing I would like to change (sometimes and sometimes not) with therion.log, is to move it to my output folder of choice, and rename it to match the theme of outputs generated by that particular thconfig. This could only be done once therion has finished running I think, so if anyone gets the delayed 'system' command working well, please post an example. Bruce
Thanks Bruce. The exaplanation about the .xtherion.dat file was useful, as I didn't know what it actually contains. I will probably find use for those two files for large projects, but for the current small ones I don't really need them. They don't take any space, it is mostly a small annoyance as I would prefer not to have files I don't need in all the project folders Anyway, I will live with them for the moment since the "system ..." command doesn't work as expected for me. In another reply Vasily suggests using a build automation system to compile the project and remove folders. It will do the job for sure, but seems a bit of an overkill Vladimir ----- Цитат от Bruce (bruce@tomo.co.nz), на 15.11.2014 в 21:25 ----- Vladimir I find .xtherion.dat and therion.log to be useful files, and would not want to automate their deletion as a matter of course. .xtherion.dat allows Xtherion to populate the Survey Structure, Survey Information and Map Structure panels to the right of the window, on opening a thconfig file, based on the last compile (assuming it was successful). Hello The geek way is use a build systems to build your maps and cleanup the project folders. I am using Rake, for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rake_%28software%29 13.11.2014 21:28, vladimirg@mail.bg пишет:
