Data Management
by Nick Bairstow 19 Aug '15

Hi all, After lots of trial and error I am now producing some good outputs of individual caves but now I have hit a wall. I believe I'm not getting the data management correct. Here's what I do, I have a folder for the area/system in that folder I have other folders for the individual caves; this is where my Top Parser produced th2 .th and config files first landed. I also have all the Therion produced outputs in these files. So far so good I think. All works well, good outputs from pdf's to kml's. Now I want to produce a pdf of the area/system using these separate caves but try as hard as I may I'm just not succeeding. I have read all the stuff on the wiki over and over and checked back though this mailing list but all my attempts at this output have failed. Next plan of attack was to look at other people's data in the Cave Registry Data Archive which helped and I now see how the .th and config files should look but I am still missing something some where. I keep seeing snatches of info about index files but can find no definitive instruction on how to use them. I realise this problem probable has a simple solution and given enough time I am sure I can work it out but life's too short to dick about for hours especially when someone out there has the answer. Also I have a deadline looming on some of these maps and I'm now getting a bit worried I will not make it. Any help would be appreciated and if anyone in the Yorkshire area wants to compare notes (I'm sure that there are more numptys like me out there) I will travel and bring beer. Nick.

Different selections in map outputs?
by Andrew Atkinson 11 Aug '15

11 Aug '15

Hello I can output 2 pdf plans using export map -proj plan -layout mendip -o Reads.pdf and export map -proj plan -layout overview -o Reads.pdf This allows me to have different layouts, but always the same selection So the second is at a different scale and only has walls, no detail. But for the second I need to select the surface where I do not want this on the first. Is there a way of doing it all in the same thconfig file, currently I have only managed to do it with separate files (or editing the select before each compile) but it would be great if they could both be generated from one. (I then use the pdf of the overview and the elevation in the plan, so one file can then generate my final output, currently I have to remember to compile from 2 different thconfigs) Andrew

Windows - no admin rights

Hello Is there any way to use Therion without admin rights on a Windows machine (at this point I realise I should have asked them what version of windows, but failed to) thanks Andrew

Forcing Therion to print centerlines only
by Michael 02 Aug '15

02 Aug '15

Hello, Having the need to produce a map showing only centerlines with station names, I forced Therion to produce such by removing all "input *.th2" statements. With growing number of such statements in various files this becomes unmangeable. Is there a way (a switch) to force Therion to print only all centerlines, without any scraps or sketches? I tried "unselect" but that command appears not to work. Michael.

Finding undated surveys
by Andrew Atkinson 30 Jul '15

30 Jul '15

Hello I am getting the message warning -- unable to determine magnetic declination for undated surveys Now I am reasonable sure that all the surveys are dated, as I use topParser and it puts it in automatically. however I would like to check, I cannot find a way of finding which surveys Therion finds to be undated, Is there an easy/built in way, Maybe it would be good if Therion listed them in the output log thanks Andrew

KML Issues
by Nick Bairstow 28 Jul '15

28 Jul '15

My "export model -o ##NAME##.kml" exports work fine but "export map -o ##NAME##.kml" sometimes works perfectly but other times I get small pieces/part of a cave missing. I have checked for walls/pillars with the tick mark the wrong way round and all look OK. I notice that other people have had issues with this a while back and even noticed that Andrew stopped using kml output. In all cases the compile runs with no warnings and the pdf output is fine. Am I wasting my time, is there a better way to get similar results. Also on the "model" outputs is there a way to show just centreline and not the splays, I see this question has been asked before but I could not see an answer. I really quite like the kml outputs as you can get the evenings survey into Google earth before the first pints half way down whist sat in the pub afterwards -not always 100% positioned at this point but it still looks good - Nick.

Re: [Therion] Projected Elevation Output
by Bruce 19 Jul '15

19 Jul '15

Further to Xavier's comment... All the (relevant) elevation scraps, maps and exports will need to have -projection [elevation 90] as part of their definition. (If you just specify "-projection elevation" then Therion will default to an elevation looking 0 deg, or north for that object) Many versions back I discovered that the direction must be specified exactly the same way in each scrap, map and export definition, I presume it is still the case. ie -projection [elevation 90] is not recognised by Therion as the same as -projection [elevation 090], and so this can be a reason why some scraps or maps are dropped from an export. Projected Elevation Output
by Nick Bairstow 18 Jul '15

18 Jul '15

I am trying to draw a 90 degree elevation. All seems well but the PDF output shows the topo survey as shown in the .th2 file background and not the walls etc that I have drawn. I can't find any reference to this problem in the available information or archives and after 2 hours have decided to go for beer. I'm obviously missing something anyone got any ideas. The extended elevation works perfectly. Nick.

Additions To Pocket Topo Data
by Nick Bairstow 17 Jul '15

17 Jul '15

Hi, If I bring Pocket Topo data/sketch into Therion with Top Parser and draw up the survey and then go back to the cave and add more stuff to the original topo file using say the continue here option is it possible to somehow easily get/replace the amended topo data into the original .th2 file and retain the scrap work already done or do I have to create a new survey. Obviously I can amend the .th with a text editor. I sometimes find myself waiting to draw things up whilst I get time to go back to get the last bits of the survey done so everything is in one file and I don't have to join it all together. Sorry if this is a bit of a stupid question but if you don't ask you never find out. Nick Bairstow

Revise command for previews
by Andrew Atkinson 12 Jul '15

12 Jul '15

On page 31 of the thbook there is the very innocent line Use the revise command if you want to add maps from higher levels to the preview. This probably helps with one of my problems BUT Further reading of revise on pp33 revise’ Description: This command is used to set or change properties of an already existing object. Syntax: The syntax of this command for object created with “single line” command is revise id [-option1 value1 -option2 value2 ...] For objects created with “multi line” commands is syntax following revise id [-option1 value1 -option2 value2 ...] ... optionX valueX data ... endrevise Context: all Arguments: The id stands for object identifier (the id of an object you want to revise must always be specified). Sorry that is not getting me anywhere, could someone please give an example, preferably relating to the level of maps thanks Andrew PS I cannot get preview/offsets to work for projected elevations, should they, the thbooks seems to say any map!!
