Nesting surveys
by Andrew Atkinson 22 Dec '05

Hello I have been working on a largish survey project (25km surveyed in month) for the last few months. Each section of cave is split into scraps and compiled with the a file like survey The_Ashes_Seriesth import The_Ashes_Series.3d -surveys use input The_Ashes_Series.th2 map The_Ashes_SeriesMap -title "The Ashes Series" The_Ashes_SeriesScPl1 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl2 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl3 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl4 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl5 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl6 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl7 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl8 endmap join The_Ashes_SeriesScPl1 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl2 -smooth on join The_Ashes_SeriesScPl2 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl4 -smooth on join The_Ashes_SeriesScPl4 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl3 -smooth on join The_Ashes_SeriesScPl3 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl5 -smooth on join The_Ashes_SeriesScPl5 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl6 -smooth on join The_Ashes_SeriesScPl5 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl7 -smooth on #join The_Ashes_SeriesScPl7 The_Ashes_SeriesScPl8 -smooth on Endsurvey As you can see I am using survex files direct. This works fine. However when I come to compile the whole cave, rather than copying the above text into another document I have tried to include the file. However, as it is in a survey the station names get prefixed. The above also imports the 3d file, but in the overall compilation, I need to use the compiled 3d file. I end up having to comment out the survey, end survey and import lines, which becomes tedious. This will get worse when we try to put lots of caves on the same map. Am I missing something? I think I'll have to prepare my surfave grid better (triangles) or something like this and not independent lines in x and y direction. When I've seen it right, the coordinate in the vrml file are not in real UTM coordinates. Can you give me a hint how to prepare my data so that I can include it manually? > > >>2. 3D models
by Wolfgang Zillig 29 Nov '05

Hello, I'm "playing" a little with the possibilities to create 3D models. At the moment I managed to get the data from a digital elevation model into an format which can be read and shown by therion. As output I use mainly the format survex (but also the vrml ouput works). An example file is at: http://www.student.kuleuven.ac.be/~s0167070/th/model.3d The surface grid is implemented as simple lines between fixpoints. Now my questions: 1. I want to achieve that invisible parts are hidden (the surface grid on the backside of the hill). Is this possible? I would estimate that this is not possible with the format svx but what about vrml or 3dmf? 2. The overlay of a (half transparant) jpg graphic would also be nice. Possible? 3. Can you reccomend a good viewer for vrml and 3dmf? I use at the moment the cortona vrml plugin for the internetexplorer but I'm not completely happy with it. I don't have a player for 3dmf at all on my computer. 4. Is it possible to get a 3d model of the cave by lrud data? Up to now I did not type these into the input files? Many thanks for any ideas! Wolfgang

Hello, I'm a new user of Therion, coming from Toporobot, working on MacOS X 10.4... I install everything, without problems in appearance. But when I try to run therion (therion -x ...), the terminal answer : dyld: lazy symbol binding failed: lazy pointer not found dyld: lazy pointer not found Trace/BPT trap What is my problem, how can I solve it ?? Thank you very much for any help ! Thierry
