There is no reason to run therion itself. The GUI to therion is TCL/TK application xtherion. You call therion from this app by pressing the F9 or button Compile. Xtherion on MacOSX is a bit buggy, so the best way is to change your actual directory to xtherion folder - ./therion/xtherion - and write to terminal prompt "wish xtherion" Hope this help. Feel free to try skype - msluka - or ichat - my mail address. Martin --
Hello, First, I wish to thank you for your answer. I can run xtherion without problems, but when I try to compile, it answer : "ERROR : can't run 'therion -x...'" I'm just installing a new version of tex (tetex distribution), with FinkCommander. Can it solve my problem ? Sorry, but I can't connect to iChat (maybe this afternoon...)... Otherwise, it would be easier to solve the problem !! Thank you very much ! Thierry On Tuesday, October 04, 2005, at 08:14PM, Martin Sluka <martinsluka@mac.com> wrote:

This is for Martin Budaj or others TeX gurus. I use standard ii instalation without problems. If you check the archive of conference you'll find simillar problems and their solution. Martin --
From Martin Budaj: Hi, it seems that you didn't compile therion correctly (you can't run it from the commandline nor xtherion is able to run it). The error message you posted (dyld: lazy symbol binding failed: lazy pointer not found) seems to be MacOSX-specific. Try using the latest gcc compiler (some hints are contained in http://www.andre-simon.de/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=en:installation_macos, which is not related to therion, but may help). You may set the compiler in the makefile: change the line 45 to CXX=g++-3.3 It is surely not related to TeX. Best regards Martin --
Sorry for the late answer, currently I am extremly busy. It looks like a problem with GCC compiler on MacOSX, because you can not run therion from command line. Tiger uses gcc 4 by default. Try compiling therion using gcc 3.3. Use the gcc_select command: gcc_select 3.3 and then recompile therion (make clean all). Or you can edit Makefile CXX = g++-3.3 CC = ??? (should be something simmilar here) Does that make the errors go away? S. Thierry Gonon wrote:

Hello, and thank you very much for your answer. But unfortunately, after setting gcc version to 3.3, and recompiling, it still don't work. The main problem seems to be when I run make install... Here's the answer of the terminal : perl makeinstall.pl MACOSX rm: illegal option -- - usage: rm [-f | -i] [-dPRrvW] file ... unlink file rm: illegal option -- - usage: rm [-f | -i] [-dPRrvW] file ... unlink file rm: illegal option -- - usage: rm [-f | -i] [-dPRrvW] file ... unlink file rm: illegal option -- - usage: rm [-f | -i] [-dPRrvW] file ... unlink file cp: illegal option -- - usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-f | -i | -n] [-pv] src target cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-f | -i | -n] [-pv] src1 ... srcN directory cp: illegal option -- - usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-f | -i | -n] [-pv] src target cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-f | -i | -n] [-pv] src1 ... srcN directory cp: illegal option -- - usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-f | -i | -n] [-pv] src target cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-f | -i | -n] [-pv] src1 ... srcN directory cp: illegal option -- - usage: cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-f | -i | -n] [-pv] src target cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-f | -i | -n] [-pv] src1 ... srcN directory It seems to be a problem in the "make install" perl script, with two dashes instead of one... Can I simply open the perl script and modify this ?? Thank you very much ! Thierry Le vendredi, 07 octobre, 2005, à 05h08, Stacho Mudrak <s.m@speleo.sk> a écrit :

Surely, but send me please the modified script too. You don!t need make install to work with therion - switching to xtherion directory and wish xtherion will work. MartinS --
can't run 'therion -x The same problem - after changing C++ to 3.3 and recompiling all clean. It looks it is Tiger specific, but I don't know how to solve it. MartinS --
1. there is the new developers snapshot .10, please download it 2. edit the file makeinstall.pl: $platform = $ARGV[0]; if ($platform eq 'WIN32') { $cdir = `cd`; $cdir =~ s/\s*$//; @paths = split(/\;/,$ENV{PATH}); $tpth = "C:\\WINDOWS"; foreach $pth (@paths) { if (($pth =~ /WINDOWS\s*$/) || ($pth =~ /WINNT\s*$/)) { $tpth = $pth; $tpth =~ s/\s*$//; } } open OUTPT, ">$tpth/therion.bat"; print OUTPT "\@\"$cdir\\therion.exe\" %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9"; close OUTPT; open OUTPT, ">./xtherion/xtherion.tcl"; $xthsrc = "source \"$cdir\\xtherion\\xtherion\"\n"; $xthsrc =~ s/\\/\\\\/g; print OUTPT $xthsrc; close OUTPT; } else { $cdir = `pwd`; $cdir =~ s/\s*$//; `rm -f /usr/bin/therion`; `rm -f /usr/bin/xtherion`; `rm -f /etc/therion.ini.new`; `rm -f /etc/xtherion.ini.new`; `cp -f $cdir/therion /usr/bin/therion`; `cp -f $cdir/xtherion/xtherion /usr/bin/xtherion`; `cp -f $cdir/therion.ini /etc/therion.ini.new`; `cp -f $cdir/xtherion/xtherion.ini /etc/xtherion.ini.new`; if ((-s "/etc/therion.ini") <= 0) { `cp -f $cdir/therion.ini /etc/therion.ini`; } if ((-s "/etc/xtherion.ini") <= 0) { `cp -f $cdir/xtherion/xtherion.ini /etc/xtherion.ini`; } } 3. compile therion 4. edit file therion.ini in /private/etc ### Output character encodings ### # encoding-default ASCII # encoding-sql ASCII ### Default output language ### # language en_UK ### Paths to called executable files ### cavern-path "/Applications/Survex/cavern" # mpost-path "mpost" # pdftex-path "pdfetex" ### Search paths for source and configuration files ### # source-path "" ### Tex fonts initialization ### # tex-fonts <encoding> <roman> <italic> <bold> <sansserif> <sansserifoblique> # tex-fonts raw cmr10 cmti10 cmbx10 cmss10 cmssi10 # tex-fonts xl2 csr10 csti10 csbx10 csss10 csssi10 ### Path to temporary directory ### tmp-path "/Users/**your_user_name_here**/temp" ### Command to remove temporary directory ### # tmp-remove "" ### Prefered loop closure method loop-closure survex 5. run xtherion --
