Therion breaks Cygwin/Tcl
by Roger Schuster 01 Oct '07

01 Oct '07

Hi there, I used the Therion 0.5.1 installer on a Windows XP box. Since then my Cygwin installation is messed up and I can't run Tcl/Tk applications any longer. In the registry are entries like [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\wish84.exe\shell\open\command] @="\"C:\\Programme\\Therion\\bin\\wish84.exe\" I think this registers Tcl source scripts to the wish84.exe from Therion instead the interpreter shipped with Cygwin. This probably causes an ugly usage mix of Windows (Therion) and Unix (Cygwin) libs. After uninstalling Therion and cleaning up the registry manually (the uninstaller should do this IMHO) my Cygwin Tcl environment is fine. Roger

Patch for wx2.8 and 64-bit issues
by Olly Betts 20 Sep '07

20 Sep '07

I just tried building therion 0.5.1. The build fails against wx 2.8.0 The wx issue is that wx_SAVE, etc have been renamed to wx_FD_SAVE. I patched this as I did for Aven by using the new names, but defining these in terms of the old ones for wx < 2.7. There are obviously other approaches, but this way means that when you stop supporting wx 2.6 you can just drop the compatibility defines. Also, there are some warnings for passing size_t when the printf specifier expects an int (size_t is 64 bits on x86-64). That's undefined behaviour I believe. Patch attached to fix both of these (and also a typo in a comment). Cheers, Olly

declination problem
by Gaëtan PERRIER 14 Sep '07

14 Sep '07

Hi, I've some problem with the declination. For the coordinate UTM31 398980 4969737 in the log file there is: output coordinate system: UTM31 meridian convergence (deg): 0.9024 geomag declinations (deg): 2007.1.1 -0.7738 2008.1.1 -0.6570 The coordinate UTM31 398980 4969737 are equal to N 44°52'26" E 1°43'15" rapport to greenwich meridian. If I go on this site: http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/seg/geomag/jsp/IGRFWMM.jsp it gives me for 2007.1.1 a declination of -0°50' so -0.83°. This value is different in relation to the therion one. If I try with declimag (http://vtopo.free.fr) it gives me a value as with http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/seg/geomag/jsp/IGRFWMM.jsp Another quetion: in my centreline there is a line: date 2007.09.08 Why this date is not used for the declination? Copying xtherion.ini in install script.
by Michael Lake 03 Sep '07

03 Sep '07

Hi all I notice that the install shell script has this: cp ./therion.ini /usr/local/etc cp ./xtherion.ini /usr/local/etc but after a make the xtherion.ini file is under the xtherion directory so it would need to be cp ./xtherion/xtherion.ini /usr/local/etc My system is Debian. Mike Lake

problems détected
by Gilbert Fernandes (mailinglist) 02 Sep '07

02 Sep '07

Hello, This is 2 problems detected in therion. They existe in past release and in the new one (0.5.1) - first, minor : the scrollbar does not appear automatically in compilation window after a compile. We must resize the window or go back in image window (and go back in compile window) to make it appear - second, more treaky : I have a problem in the 3 D view model. I don’t know if it’s the .lox file which is bad or if it’s only a display problem. Here you have the data to generate the problem, and a screen copy of the problem. That’s fun because the map and the extended elevation are good. This appear just in the 2 scraps junctions. Thanks for the work. Good luck. I’m available if you have questions. Gilbert

Re: [Therion] Converting SVG files to Therion th2 format
by Juergen Bohnert 29 Aug '07

Hi Martin, I have tried it with two caves so far and I found out that I would be much faster if I converted the whole cave in one go. Dividing the svg cave map is not the problem, but putting the layers together for each single scrap is painful. E.g. if you wanted to do this for a 2 km long cave and your scrap limit is 100 m you would have to do the conversion 20 times for 5-10 layers which means ending up with 100 - 200 single conversions - very cumbersome. Think about alpine karst regions where you want to convert a whole bunch of longer caves to enjoy the dynamic cave map advantages of Therion. Definitely, automation of this process would be a good thing. Generating a 2 km long "super scrap" and breaking it up into smaller 100 - 200 m scraps automatically should be doable using the right script. 0.5.1
by Stacho Mudrak 29 Aug '07

29 Aug '07

Hi everybody, finally I have found some free time to release next version. Here are some important changes: There is new configuration mode for linux users: make config-debian You should be able to compile loch, if you have installed necessary packages - wxWidgets-devel, VTK-devel, freetype-devel, libpng-devel. If I have forgotten some, please let me know. This should be the default configuration. New therion features: * ability to display overlying maps in offset * LRUD envelopes of maps exported from centerline * user defined types of points/lines/areas (using u type and custom subtype string e.g. u:electric-cable) New xtherion features: * symbol themes and translations comboboxes - useful for other then english users * DXF/SVG import in map editor (File->Import) * autocompletion in symbol type comboboxes Regards, S.

Hidroniveler data input
by Vilius A 23 Aug '07

23 Aug '07

Hello, I have one more question about Therion. Is it possible to add some data gotten from a hidroniveler (I don't know is it correct in english ;/ ) to any survey? The question came out of the situation we have now: once we've done a cave survey we realized that there could be quite big relational error. That's because the cave is very narrow - it is very diffucult to measure clino and azimuth. That's why we are going to use hidroniveler. At least to know exact depth of the cave. I would be greate to have a possibility to add such data to therion survey source. I'm sorry if I made my self unclear. Please let me know. Vilius A. Speleoclub "Ænigma" www.speleo.lt
