Mine sybols?
by Christian Rößler (Roessler) 12 Dec '07

Hallo everyone, hearing discussiong about symbols I thought again about mine specific symbols. While I have to admit I have perhaps not searched thoroughly, I have not found any included in therion. Well, I would be willing to design some. But it surely would be better to determine which symbols/areas would be needed first. Many of these are already in convention elsewhere, so work should be relatively straightforward. To begin I have the following suggestions. Unforunately my english is not good enough, so to avoid possible confusion I add the german words. I would be glad if a german speaker could name the translations. 1. Shaft / Schacht (up and down) 2. Sinking (?) / Gesenk 3. Weather (ventile) door / Wettertür 4. Doorway (for supporting) / Türstock (standing and ruined) 5. Where ore was mined / Abbau (up and down) 6. Hole for rolling ore downwards / Rolloch 7. Wagon rolling planks / Hundbretter 8. Hand driven wind / Haspel 9. Chamber for hand driven wind / Haspelkammer 10. Water flowing gutter / Gerinne 11. Lamp niche / Lampennische 12. Upraise / Aufhauen 13. Galley end (constr. end) / Ortsbrust 14. Hewn material / Versatz 15. Versturz 16. Special tool traces / Werkzeugspuren (Please add to the list) If I provide drawn symbols, would anyone help me converting these to metapost? It would also be nice if fellow miners would suggest symbols, too. Best greetings, and to my fellow miners a hearty Barbara's day! Christian -- Wenn Schnaps die Kehle runterlauft, (If liquor runs down the throat,) der Schacht im Wasser bald ersauft! (the shaft in water soon will drown!)

links in kml export
by marco corvi 12 Dec '07

kml can have references (= links) to external resources, e.g., images, through a Placemark. probably pdf too. is it possible to define this in therion files, for example with a point of type link (uri as value) ? thanks, marco

How to find most recent Therion Windows Install Files?
by Bruce Mutton 12 Dec '07

12 Dec '07

Is there a way to seek out the most recent Windows install file on the Therion website? The page http://therion.speleo.sk/download.php gives only the link to the 0.5.1 files. (I imagine these are the most recent 'official' release) More recently Martin directed us to http://therion.speleo.sk/downloads/therion-update-20071114.exe, but I notice that there appears to be no link to this on the Therion site, it has to be typed or pasted directly to a web browser. http://therion.speleo.sk/downloads just redirects me to the home page. I suspect there is a more recent install file, based on previous posts, but as I don't know the date, it is tedious to find by trial and error. Perhaps I am missing something obvious? Thanks Bruce

Hierarchy of Layouts, overiding symbol set symbols individually
by Bruce Mutton 06 Dec '07

06 Dec '07

I have a standard master thconfig file that contains two layouts, water-blue (copied from the rabbit cave example) and StandardLayout. I have other thconfig files that refer to the master file with an input command, as below; input ../StdFiles/thconfig-StdLayouts.thc copy water-blue # adopt blue water colour layout from 'input' file copy StandardLayout # adopt standard layout from 'input' file This works fine, except that when my StandardLayout contains, for example; symbol-set UIS # UIS, ASF, CCNP, SKBB then the symbol set always overrides and I don't get my blue fill colour. I have tried changing the order of the two 'copy' commands above, to no avail. There maybe something about this in the Therion Book but I'm not sure I understand it. For now I'm happy to leave out the 'symbol-set' command, but I foresee the day when I would adopt one of the other symbol sets and make personalised changes (such as water-blue). Any comments? Bruce

Geological features
by Martin Lüthi 06 Dec '07

06 Dec '07

Hi The Therion / Loch ensemble is very impressive. Something I would like to do but don't know whether that is implemented, or would be easy to implement: geologic features. By this term I mean adding strike/dip data from fault planes, fold axes or layering to the input files. Then in Loch these planes would show up as planes cutting through the galleries. Having a feature like that would greatly enhance the ability to see how cave systems evolve along these geologic structures. Best, Martin

Modular Reuse of thconfig Layouts
by Bruce Mutton 02 Dec '07

02 Dec '07

I have three caves entered into a folder tree as a hierarchal system, that can be plotted in a couple of variations for each individually or as a whole system. I find that I have two thconfig files for each combination that produce all of the types of maps I would like at this stage. This makes a total of eight thconfig files, each of which is getting quite large, but which are largely identical except in a few details. It's becoming difficult to manage these, and keep the bits that I'd like to be identical updated. I suspect that, like most of the rest of Therion, I can make use of a standard thconfig file that contains most of my favourite settings, allowing my eight specific thconfigs to be very concise. I have played around a bit, trying to save layouts in different files and using lines like; copy StandardLayout but 'StandardLayout' only seems to be visible from within the same file. Have had no luck with 'input', 'source' or 'select'. Probably I'm just missing out a bit of syntax or namespace visibility. Any suggestions

Image scaling and layer position
by Bruce Mutton 30 Nov '07

30 Nov '07

Is it possible to scale images inserted into the layout, short of saving the original file to a different resolution before using it with Therion? Is it possible to put the image on the bottom layer, as it is with grids and surfaces? Change its opacity? (For example an indistinct image could be used as a watermark or background to the finished cave map drawing -not that I really want to do this, mainly just to get better control of the image) layout map-image 0 0 sw ./sketches/logo.jpg / #image bottom #image-scale 2x / #image-opacity 5 # in case the image is on top of the cave for instance endlayout Thanks Bruce PS: The continuous code grid works fine. Thanks Stacho

The current Donate one get one offer(valid till end of year) with a year of T-Mobile wifi hotspot service and a tax write-off is a great opportunity to get one now if it has any application possibilities.
