Hi Christian, I'm a french user of therion and use it for caves and also ancient mines as I'm an archaeologist specialised in this domain. I think it could be interesting to share our practise with this software, to see what feets well our needs and we specially need... So, if you think the same, let me know !! Introduction and question about join-syntax
by Christian Rößler (Roessler) 14 Nov '07

Good day, first let me introduce myself, perhaps: I am (of course) new to the Therion list. Well, I am from southern germany, the black forest, to be exact; and I am primarily interested in abandoned mines, not in caves. So I went on the search for a capable map-making software, found Therion and started with it - please bear with my as I am posting surely some stupid beginner's mistakes. Very nice software, Therion, by the way; and many thanks to the developers. But I have some problems. We are used to make lrud data when surveying mines, so I am bound to lrud (left-right-up-down I mean). I have come as far as mapping a single centerline successfully, but when I try to join two centerlines at the appropriate point I am stuck. I have tried al lot of possible join-syntaxes, so I fear my error lies perhaps deeper. I always get: | therion: error -- can not connect 0@Eisenbach_2.Eisenbach to centerline | network I have a master file [eisenbach_hotel.thconfig] with just one line in it: | source eisenbach_hotel.th [eisenbach_hotel.th] reads: | survey Eisenbach -title "Hotelstollen Eisenbach Intervall 1" | input eisenbach_hotel_intervall_1.th | input eisenbach_hotel_intervall_2.th | join Eisenbach_2@0 Eisenbach_1@15.25:end | #join 0@Eisenbach_2.Eisenbach 14@Eisenbach_1.Eisenbach | endsurvey If I out-comment one input line, no matter which, and insert an appropriate line with export in other place man I can successfully generate a background image for both after compiling, so I think the two data sets are ok. I have inserted these two sets below. Please, can anyone give me a functioning join line, or, if the error lies elsewhere, point me in the right direction? Many thanks, Christian The tho data sets: [eisenbach_hotel_intervall_1.th]: | survey Eisenbach_1 -title "Eisenbach 1. Intervall" | centerline | date 2007.11.08 | declination -2 degrees | team "CHR" | data normal from to length compass clino left right up down | 0 2 2 340 1 0.55 1.30 1.40 0 | [ ... data in between snipped for brevity] | 14 15.25 1.25 340 1 0.45 0.27 1.78 0 | endcenterline | endsurvey [eisenbach_hotel_intervall_2.th]: | survey Eisenbach_2 -title "Eisenbach 2. Intervall" | centerline | date 2007.11.08 | declination -2 degrees | team "CHR" | data normal from to length compass clino left right up down | 0 2 2 330 1 0.40 0.25 1.68 0 | [...] | 14 15.25 1.25 330 1 0.69 0.37 1.40 0 | endcenterline | endsurvey

Hi, please read the therion book... You can specify LRUD for both points (From, To). Just use syntax like this: Data from to compass clino length left right up down 1 1a 45 10 0.01 [0.0 1.0] [2.0 1.5] [2.2 1.8] [0.5 0.2] where first number is for "From" point and second one is for "To" point. L. Cooper, Ben napsal(a): > My experience is that the LRUD applies to the "To" station. In order to > generate the first "From" station LRUD, I manually create a Dummy > station, 1cm away from the true starting station, as follows: > > E.g. > Data from to compass clino length left right up down > # 1 2 45 10 6.00 0.0 2.0 2.0 0.5 # station 1 LRUD > 1 1a 45 10 0.01 0.0 2.0 2.2 0.5 # station 1 LRUD > 1a 2 45 10 5.99 2.0 0.0 2.1 0.6 # station 2 LRUD > > I also find that reverse legs, or dog-legs are not handled well by LRUD. > This is not a criticism of Therion, but a confusion with the surveyors. > It is not so simple to say that the LRUD applies to the direction of the > survey, because the LRUD applies to a station, which may have legs taken > both From and To it. Scraps won't become maps (New User)
by Bruce Mutton 06 Nov '07

06 Nov '07

Hi, newbie Therion user excited by the prospect of electronic maps. My first steps have been successful, but I've got stuck. I'm using Windows XP and Xtherion 0.5.1 I can produce centreline plots of single or multiple surveys from multiple *.th and thconfig files in multiple directories to *.pdf, *.xvi and *.lox files. That much I seem to understand. I can scan *.jpg images of my surveys and trace them to produce *.th2 files that look fine both in the map editor and the text editor. I think I understand how this works, it seems easy enough. When I place the following in my surveyN.th file, input RBMtestplan.th2 map m_plan_ent -title "Map plan entrance" scrap1 endmap and the following in thconfig. source surveyN.th select m_plan_ent@n . I get one of two results; a) a line plot that ignores the scrap and produces only a centreline as if the scrap did not exist, or b) an error; Mostly I get the error; viz "D:\Program Files\Therion\therion.exe: error -- RBMtestplan.th2 [7] -- invalid length reading -- -scale" (Sometimes the error is -- invalid length reading -- -projection) And the offending line is; scrap scrap1 -projection plan -scale [-128 -1296 880 128 0.0 0.0 25.60 0.0 meters] This "seems" to follow the required syntax, and is generated automatically by the map editor. The samples I downloaded work fine, and I can not see my trial differs materially. Both results are unsatisfactory. I would like a drawing of the cave. I suspect I may not be scaling the sketched survey stations to the centreline survey stations correctly(?) Any suggestions what I am doing wrong? Any suggestions how I can go about debugging the problem? Thanks Bruce Mutton

extend vertical command
by Gilbert Fernandes (mailinglist) 20 Oct '07

20 Oct '07

Hello I have seen an instruction in an therion exemple in the web site ( I cannot find the url now) saying we can put vertical a survey (not compleatly vertical) in an extended scrap. This instruction is put in a centerline extend vertical n15 n16 But I cannot find it in the thbook.pdf, and it seems to not work in the last therion release. Does it still work or not ? My problem is that the drawing of my climbing pit seems to be to larg as my survey go rigth to left in the pit. so the scrap drawing is to large instead of been thin (and high). Thanks. Gilbert

Re: [Therion] Therion breaks Cygwin/Tcl
by roger＠r-schuster.de 02 Oct '07

Hi, I had the chance to lay hands on a brand new computer on which Therion, Cygwin or Tcl never were installed. I put now Therion 0.5.1 on it. You are right: The Therion installer does not create this registry key. But I am also right. :-) After starting Xtherion by clicking on a *.th or *.th2 file this key appears in the registry. Obviously the Tcl interpreter itself modifies the registry. Roger Hmmm, sounds strange - therion installer should never overwrite this registry. (see p.s.). If you install therion once again - is this key again overwritten? Regards, S. P.S. Here isthe registry section of our ISS script. This Key is not touched by therion installation script.
