20 Dec '19

Hi everyone, I have a scrap of extended elevation to left and I want to flip it so it will be to the right, but when I add -flip horizontal to the scrap definition it flips it upside down and mashing up the lines. -flip vertical does the same thing. am I missing something? my file is generated from Topodroid I added an examples of what it does and the .th +.th2 files -- Omri

Software issue
by Gareth Davies 18 Dec '19

18 Dec '19

All, I've bought a new touchscreen tablet running Windows10 with the thought it might make the drawing by up easier than on my old computer. I can't seem to get the software to load, I've enclosed an image of the screen error. I'm hoping someone here will have an idea what may be going wrong here. Best regards Gareth Davies

Stupendous symbol effort
by Bruce Mutton 17 Dec '19

17 Dec '19

I just noticed yesterday's development update. An amazing effort Rodrigo, adding all of those new symbols. They will be much appreciated I am sure - I can already think of existing maps of mine that I might update as a result. I don't want to be too picky, but I wonder about the use of plural 's' in for some of the symbol names. I have attached a screenshot of the Therion Book page 24. I think symbols such as 'discs-pillars' should instead be named 'disc-pillars'. But of course English being English there are exceptions to the pattern, such as 'pillars-with-curtains' and 'stalactites-stalagmites' which are probably OK. Bruce

How does Therion decide which passages to put above and below
by alastair gott 14 Dec '19

14 Dec '19

Hi Therion guys, In the final throws of getting a report done for Spanish Gov before the end of the year. I need to know how therion decides which passages to put above and below others. I've got higher passages appearing below lower passages, I've moved them around in the map structure, to no solution. So I just want to know If anyone had any insight as to what I should try. Specific example for SVN users here: http://cave-registry.org.uk/svn/Andara/Tresviso/Nacimiento/therion/ Claphamjn_Partingfr.thconfig<http://cave-registry.org.uk/svn/Andara/Tresviso/Nacimiento/therion/Claphamj…> is the config which runs the main survey below. Both side passages (north of main) should be appearing above, hence label "drop to streamway" [cid:95d33f93-2e49-45d7-bd39-24f54233d3af] Regards, Alastair Gott. Setting -outline for pit lines
by Tarquin Wilton-Jones 12 Dec '19

12 Dec '19

Hi all, Feeling like a beginner here with a very simple question, but oh well... "-outline out" is for outer walls "-outline in" is for pillars in the middle of a passage When a wall line is drawn in the wrong direction, you hit "reverse" to make the little tick point inwards. Easy. Until you hit this wording in the old tutorials: "The "outline" option specifies on which side of a line there is the rock." With a *pit* line that is being drawn with its tines facing outwards - as in, the scrap ends at the top of a pitch - the little tick also points outwards, in the opposite direction to most wall lines. ____________________ |- Scrap to pitch head |- A different scrap starts below the pitch ____________________|- Therion doesn't seem to care whether you set "-outline" for that pit to "out" or "in", the result is the same in most cases when creating PDF. Except when creating a .lox file, where it will complain about the scrap outline being invalid if you use "in". So what is the correct value for -outline on a pit with the tines pointing out, when the scrap outline should be the pit's line? And if it is "-outline out", then why do we always draw walls with the tick pointing inwards - surely if it is valid for a pit line to have the tick pointing out and "-outline out", then it is also valid for wall lines to be drawn that way too, so why don't we? Cheers, Tarquin

Therion/loch crashes in sid (issue #158)
by Benedikt Hallinger 11 Dec '19

11 Dec '19

Hi Olly, i hope you can help me out with issue #158 (https://github.com/therion/therion/issues/158) I am fiddling around in hope to get my loch viewer working again. It worked in the past but then decided after a debian update to cease functioning because of failing glx context. I now have the impression, maybe wxWidgets is the cause. The glx context is fine, other X applications can successfully establish 3D perfomance and glx debug commands also tell me „ok“. I habe seen that there is a wxWidgets 3.1.4 out there. Maybe this could solve my issue? Can you please make me an updated debian package (or tell me how i can build it myself)?

Hiding centreline within a scrap, while showing it for surveys
by Tarquin Wilton-Jones 08 Dec '19

08 Dec '19

Hi folks, I know this must be a common desire, but I can't seem to find it on the wiki or Therion book. map foo bar@baz #a map containing scraps qux #a survey endmap This will show the scraps within bar@baz, and the centreline for qux. All good. I want to hide the centreline within bar@baz, since it has passage walls, and no need to show a centreline. But I need to continue showing the centreline for qux, since it has no passage wall data, only the centreline. I am sure I have seen this on John's surveys, but I can't seem to work out how to do it (all I can see is a mail from Stacho in 2007 asking for clarification whether someone actually wanted that functionality). Is there a way?

Colouring an elevation based on surveys that are not being displayed
by Tarquin Wilton-Jones 07 Dec '19

07 Dec '19

Hi folks, When you colour a survey by depth (color map-fg altitude), it colours it based on the scraps that have been selected. This is normally useful. When you produce an output with only one part of the survey (eg. a zoomed-in section of a more complex part of the survey), however, it would be more useful to be able to keep it the same colour as it was in the larger survey, so that a viewer can quickly see which part of the cave they are looking at, and see that the colours match. (My own use-case is different, but the solution would be the same.) Is there, for example, a way to say this: layout local color map-fg altitude endlayout source "cave.th" select subsectionMP(a)subsection.cave altitude-relative caveMP@cave export map -proj plan -layout plan -o "cave.pdf" Alternatively, is there a way to add scraps belonging to the highest points and lowest points into the map, but not have them render, while still being used for altitude colouring (this seems like a hack rather than being a dedicated solution). Alternatively (and I know this will seem a little out of place here, but it is an alternative solution for what I need), is there a way to import a map-image, and crop it to only include a portion of the image? Cheers! Tarquin
