Changing Atlas layout
by Benedikt Hallinger 03 Feb '20

03 Feb '20

Hello, i currently map a relatively long tunnel and want to be able to print it out on several A4 papers. The Atlas function of therion is the thing that solves this problem quite nicely. However, how can i tune the atlas layout, like disabling all visible features of the atlas (no navigation, no title, no borders when showing the overlapping (but the overlapping should persist!) The main goal is, to print the tunnel like it prints in normal export mode, but on several pages which break like it does in atlas mode.

Help - joining surveys error
by עמרי גסטר 22 Jan '20

22 Jan '20

Hi everyone, I need to join 4 surveys and I have a strange error which I don't understand... kikarOmRzRb071219 kikar_start Hkikar_inner_3_1_20 Hakikar_B_7_12_19 every survey by itself is generated fine. when I'm joining kikarOmRzRb071219 to Hakikar_B_7_12_19 the join is good, but when I add the others I get an error that the scrap file doesn't exists... why Therion doesn't recognize the scraps? I added the .th & .th2 files Omri --

Re: [Therion] problem with -flip horizontal extended elevation scrap
by Xavier Robert 27 Dec '19

Hi Alastair, Sorry for my late answer, I couldn’t test anything before today. I try your trick (extend definition in the .th data files + the -flip horizontal in the scrap definition), and yes, it works. I will keep that in mind ! Thanks a lot ! For some reasons, after this process, I had to reverse the direction of some passages for extended elevation. I have just done it by playing with the « extend » command in the data, without changing/redrawing the scraps. The scraps are thus flipped by Therion, and I have the same behaviour than Omri : It flips them upside down and mashing up the lines. This is not the behavior I was waiting for... >> >> I will try to take some time to build a small example as soon as I can ! therion sketch .th, Use of Grade UISv1_1
by alastair gott 23 Dec '19

23 Dec '19

Hi Therion mailing list, I'm trying to use the function "grade" in one of our .th files, theres a sketch made of a cave with very little detail, but we think it would be better to include it. I'm strugging to get the function grade to work, therion is giving me red writing "-- not enough data readings" and stopping the survey from generating, but only when I implement the grade function. I must be using it incorrectly, but I've tried it between survey and centreline commands too and that isn't working either. this gives red writing "-- invalid value -- centerline" centerline #[omitted] units length meters units compass clino degrees data normal from to length compass clino extend left grade UISv1_1 0 1 1.00 300 0.0 1 2 1.00 0.0 0.0 2 3 1.00 0.0 0.0 3 4 1.00 0.0 0.0 4 5 1.00 0.0 0.0 endgrade endcenterline Regards, Alastair Gott. Metapost variable for map-bg colour
by Tarquin Wilton-Jones 21 Dec '19

By default, the background of a page is set to white. When you set "color map-bg [0 90 0]", it is now green. Can that colour be accessed from Metapost? A diff of the debug Metapost doesn't show anything...

New symbols
by rsev＠protonmail.com 21 Dec '19

Hi, I have create the following 52 new symbols for Therion: Therion symbol set Topodroid symbol group Points: altar EGB anthro archeo-excavation EGB extra audio EGB extra bat EGB extra bone EGB extra curtains UIS extra danger EGB speleo disc-stalactite UIS extra eletric-light EGB anthro ex-voto EGB anthro gate EGB anthro helictites UIS extra human-bone EGB extra masonry EGB anthro minus EGB speleo mud EGB speleo mud-crack EGB extra nameplate EGB anthro pendant EGB extra photo EGB extra pillar-with-curtains UIS extra pillars-with-curtains UIS extra plus EGB speleo plus-minus EGB speleo seed-germination EGB extra stalactite-stalagmite UIS extra stalactites-stalagmites UIS extra tree-trunk EGB extra volcano EGB extra walkway EGB anthro walkway-metalic EGB anthro walkway-soil EGB anthro walkway-stone EGB anthro walkway-wood EGB anthro water-drip EGB speleo Lines: abyss-entrance UIS extra dripline UIS extra fault UIS extra joint UIS extra low-ceiling UIS extra pit-chimney UIS extra walkway EGB anthro walkway-metalic EGB anthro walkway-soil EGB anthro walkway-stone EGB anthro walkway-wood EGB anthro Areas: mud-crack EGB extra pillar UIS extra pillar-with-curtains UIS extra stalactite UIS extra stalactite-stalagmite UIS extra stalagmite UIS extra I would like to offer them to be included in Therion's source code. My suggestion it to incorporate them Therion distributed in 2 symbol sets: the existing UIS one and on a new one to be called EGB. The ones to go to UIS have their images inspired by similar symbols from UIS. The ones to go to EGB are ones that I can't identify some already existing symbol set to receive them so I am proposing a new symbol set named EGB (for Espeleo Grupo de Brasília = Brasilia's Speleo Group, my speleo group) as many of these symbols were demanded by some fellow members of EGB. This is my suggestion but obvioulsy we can choose any other path, for example: - distribue them differently among symbol set's; - incorporate just some of them in Therion's source code; - not incoporate any of them (I would distribute them as stadalone files to be used by the interested parties as user symbols). As I mentioned, we can follow any prefered path. Please let me know if the idea is to incorporate them in Therio's source code, as I would have to adapt them because, right now they are formated as standalone user symbols. Please advise. Regards, Rodrigo Severo P.S.: The "Topodroid symbol group" mentioned on the table above is the symbol group where each symbol resides in Topodroid. I bet this info isn't actually relevant to Therion but I decided to include it for completeness.

Breaking a loop at a specific station on extended elevation
by Tarquin Wilton-Jones 21 Dec '19

21 Dec '19

Hi folks, There are a few of us who are struggling with an extended elevation problem. I have attached a sample data file, which represents the data from a real cave. There is a main passage (stations 1-2-3-4-5-7), and a high level oxbow (stations 2-6-5). Because the oxbow is shorter, Therion defaults to using that as the primary extended elevation path, which is not desired. The natural (human preferred) way of extending that, is to show the main passage as a single line, then have the high level oxbow split at station 6, with a leg pointing to each of the two stations it connects to, and a dotted line connecting the two versions of station 6. Like this (if your email client shows this with a fixed width font): 6....6 / \ 1--2--3--4--5--7 We tried various "extend left" "extend right" and "extend ignore", and we managed to make it break station 2, but it seems not to want to break on station 6. (We can obviously break it in the right place by breaking the data, but that is not the intention is to keep the data valid.) Can someone please tell us the magic formula of extend commands that will produce the desired output? Thanks for the assistance. Tarquin

Shortening long passages in extended elevations
by Tarquin Wilton-Jones 20 Dec '19

20 Dec '19

Hi all, With extended elevations, you might want to show only the most important parts, like pitches, while showing long passages as a shorter distance with a break symbol. Imagine a cave with an initial pitch, a long passage, and a final pitch, where the extended elevation should concentrate on the detail of the pitches only, and not have the long passage wasting space. For a real example, see this rigging topo: https://cncc.org.uk/caving/topos/download-single.php?id=6 If the passage is horizontal, you could easily achieve this by setting the legs of the long passage to "extend vertical", so that its stations to not take up any horizontal length. You can then manually draw the gap with some lines. However, if the long passage slopes downwards, this will make the two parts of the passage break with a vertical gap between them. This makes sense because it means that the extended elevation will show the vertical range of the cave, which is great if that's what you are hoping for. But in a rigging topo, it is less useful. There is no equivalent that I can see to "extend equate 21 57", which would be an equate that happens only during an extended elevation. Essentially, this is the desired outcome though. For a real example, see this rigging topo - the breaks represent a passage that has lost as much as 20 metres of altitude, which is completely ignored: https://cncc.org.uk/caving/topos/download-single.php?id=61 One method I can think of - but it feels like a hack - is to draw the upper pitch in one map, and the lower pitch in another map, then use map offsets to pull the lower map into the desired position when rendering. Does anyone have a better solution to this? Can "extend hide" do something useful or will that still keep any vertical (and horizontal) offsets? Thanks for any advice. Tarquin
