>You should move the border of area and area togehter. Thanks Martin, I had not figured that one out, might explain some of the troubles I had from time to time. I have put together a page that hopefully removes some of the mystery. http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php?id=tips#drawing_orderhow_to_draw_symb ols_over_or_under_an_area Corrections welcome. Graham If you are using a water or sump area symbol that has an opaque background, then naturally anything under area will be hidden. I forget whether the default hatched symbols have an opaque background or not. The blue filled customizations on the wiki are opaque. I am not sure if Therion's transparency settings can help resolve that, unless you draw a separate scrap underneath the scrap with the area water/sump. Bruce

Has anybody tried to import data from Auriga? If yes, please may you send me a "cookbook", please. Thanks Martin s.

clashing areas
by Graham Mullan 14 Sep '12

How do I get to show boulders or debris on the floor of a sump? Whether I put the debris area before or after the sump area, the rocks remain hidden by the water. In the end I hand drew some big boulders, after the water, which now are visible but also appear not to be wet. Graham

Remove Altitudes from legend
by Bruce 12 Sep '12

12 Sep '12

Is it possible to set map-fg to altitude and at the same time easily remove the altitude colour bar from the map header? I would like to colour by altitude, but suppress this The reason is that in some cases it makes the map size too big for a convenient standard paper size. Thanks Bruce

map-bg transparent
by Bruce 12 Sep '12

12 Sep '12

It is a long time since I made use of transparent map backgrounds, and on trying just now I think it is no longer working (at least in 5.3.10, 5.3.9 and maybe earlier versions I get white backgrounds instead). Or perhaps I am making a silly mistake? I thought the problem might be the same as the bug in 5.3.5 when this feature was first introduced http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gis.therion/2349/match=map+bg+transparen t but it seems I get opaque white backgrounds with either syntax. within an explicitly defined layout; layout LayoutMapBulmer_System colour map-bg transparent endlayout LayoutMapBulmer_System or as part of the export map command; export map -projection [elevation 270 deg] \ -layout LayoutMapBulmer_System \ -layout LayoutMapBulmer_SystemElev \ -layout-colour map-bg transparent \ -output ./Output/MapBeautBulmerLate08System_Elev.pdf You can test this by creating a pdf map with a transparent background and inserting it into another map with 'map-image'. Does anyone else find that transparent backgrounds are not working? Bruce

therion 5.3.10 and source tar.gz

Hi, It seems that the source tar.gz is malformed. After decompression, the directories haven't the good rights (x is missing). Regards, -- Gaëtan PERRIER <gaetan.perrier(a)speleolot.org>

Interleaved data options
by Bruce 22 Aug '12

22 Aug '12

Hi I have some data that is easily copied out of another application in a format like this; station tape compass clino 1 2 22.6 112 0 3 25.3 244 10 2 4 30 8 -23 5 30 134 11 And with a bit of simple but tedious manipulation I can get it into a Therion friendly; data normal station newline tape compass clino 1 22.6 112 0 2 25.3 244 10 3 data normal station newline tape compass clino 2 30 8 -23 4 30 134 11 5 And this works perfectly. I am looking to reduce the manipulation required however. Is there a way I can get the first format to work directly in therion? I have tried; data normal station newline to tape compass clino and data normal from newline to tape compass clino and some other variations, but they always give a 'missing data' or 'too much data' error at the start or end of the data block. Ideas anyone? Bruce

Distinguishing between survey centrelines and drawings
by Bruce 16 Aug '12

16 Aug '12

The recent kml output discussion reminds me that it took me about three years of using Therion before I realized that the outputs usually do not present a consistent or unified set of representations of the cave. Since then I have been trying to make sense of it and almost came up with a tabular representation to improve on the Therion's Features wiki pages, but then got confused again. This information is already available in the Therion Book and on the wiki in various places, but I do not recall reading in one place a clear description or why it is so. Does anyone else get confused by this aspect of Therion's behaviour? Here is my first cut on an overview description of what goes on and a table that hopefully clarifies the relationships between 'export' 'selection' and 'file formats'. http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php?id=exportselectionformat Feel free to make suggestions or edit the page to clarify further or to correct any errors in what I've presented so far. I've made a few guesses about the capabilities of many of the file formats, as I'm not familiar with all of them. Bruce

Hello, I need someone's help to generate a KML file ... Attached is an extract of the cave survey data / config file that I've been using - but the result is always an "emplty" KML file. nosurvey needs the date it was not surveyed
by Bruce 12 Aug '12

12 Aug '12

This is a trivial matter, but may be worth some discussion and perhaps adjusting Therions behaviour sometime. I have been moving 'data nosurvey' entries from the main survey centreline into their own centrelines, so that, presumably (when I learn to use sql) users will be able to interrogate the database and uniquely identify each unsurveyed connection, when it was made and who 'explored' it. (The metadata gets distributed across the whole centreline if these are all put in the same centreline). The relevant data fields would seem to be 'explo-date' and 'explo-team' and 'date' would seem to be irrelevant, as 'date' is the survey date, and these short passages have by definition not been surveyed. If however, the overall survey has a coordinate system set, and the particular centreline has a 'data <xxx>' block set as well, then Therion will helpfully display a warning message; "warning -- unable to determine magnetic declination for undated surveys" It would seem to me that 'data nosurvey' is a special case that should not trigger this warning. An example of how I am entering these in my overall cave survey file below. Regards Bruce #Unsurveyed Connections #================== centreline explo-date 2011.05.28 explo-team "This Caver" explo-team "That Caver" explo-team "Bruce Mutton" #date 2011.05.28 #date needed to suppress 'undated survey declination' error data nosurvey from to jg8.10@jg ij3.44@ij #unsurveyed connection Train to Carpe Diem ig2.60@ig IK10.21@ik #unsurveyed connection What Sump Lucky Cowboy endcentreline centreline explo-date 2012.03.24 explo-team "This Caver" explo-team "That Caver" #date 2012.03.24 #date needed to suppress 'undated survey declination' error data nosurvey from to kb51.33@kb2 ka50.4@ka2 #unsurveyed connection in KA-KB-Conscious endcentreline
