shift for extended scraps
by Martin Sluka 05 Aug '12

05 Aug '12

I used shift for scraps with projection map. No problems. I tried to use shift for scrap with projection extended. The result is: therion: error -- milada.th [65] -- shift is not allowed for scrap -- milada_ext_s8@milada Definition of map is as follows: map milada_ext.map -projection extended milada_ext_s7@milada #pritokova chodba break milada_ext_s8@milada [0 -10 m] below break ... Is there any workaround or did a mistake there? Thanks Martin s.

mixing local and global coordinate systems
by Jonny Prouty 04 Aug '12

04 Aug '12

Hello all, I have a compass PLT file that I would like to import into an existing therion project that I have. The therion project has numerous fixed stations, all in the same UTM zone. Unfortunately, if I try to equate a station in the PLT file with the equivalent station in my project, I can't proceed as I can't mix local (in the PLT file) and global (in my project) coordinate systems. If I comment out all of the "cs" commands in my therion project as a test, I can't proceed because therion won't allow two fixed stations to be equated with one another. Removing the "cs" commands isn't really a viable option anyways since I need the stations to have real-world coordinates so that I can load the maps into QGIS and GRASS. My question then is is it possible to override the coordinates of an imported PLT file, transforming them into the coordinate system of my project? Thanks very much in advance! Best regards, Jonny

Add UIS ceiling-step/meander to Therion symbol sets?
by Bruce 28 Jul '12

28 Jul '12

Hi The examples of NZSS line ceiling-step and line ceiling-meander that I posted last month are pretty close to the UIS symbols I think. http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php?id=metapost#general_symbol_examples (they are just the reflection of the SKBB linetypes) Perhaps they could be added to Therion's UIS symbol set, which is currently blank for these two symbols. Also the UIS chimney symbol should be replaced with the above if this http://www.carto.net/neumann/caving/cave-symbols/ is a reliable reference. Regards Bruce

flag duplicate and explo statistics
by Dirk Peinelt 19 Jul '12

19 Jul '12

Hi, I've two surveys files from the same cave part, that was reworked. I've now an old survey of a old team ('date', 'explo-date' and 'team' and 'explo-team' was applied) and a new 're'survey from a new team (only 'date' and 'team' was applied). All data of the old file was flagged as 'duplicate'. Because to become a real cave-length from the new survey. Now the map don't show a explo-statistic from the old 'duplicated' survey. Is this by design? Or is it possible to show this? I would protect the work of the old team. But the new survey has new parts. I would not copy the explo-data from the old to the new survey. //dirk

Training Course Guide for Therion from the UK Cave Surveying Group
by Footleg 17 Jul '12

17 Jul '12

Over the past couple of years the UK based Cave Surveying Group (CSG) have run a number of training courses to teach DistoX Paperless surveying and drawing up with Therion. I have now written the first draft of a training guide based on the data gathered on one of these courses. The CSG also have a new website where we are starting to publish online. The CSG homepage is http://cp.cavesurveying.org.uk/ The training course and example data can be found here: http://cp.cavesurveying.org.uk/index.php/articles/3-therion-tutorial I would welcome any feedback on the content of the tutorial as it is an on going project to improve the content to cover more features of Therion, and to correct any mistakes in the parts I have written so far. Perhaps someone with wiki editing permissions could add a link to this training material to the therion wiki too? Footleg

Converting polar coordinates to survey leg data (and the reverse)
by Footleg 03 Jul '12

03 Jul '12

Just letting people know about this in case it is of general use to others. I have just finished creating a spreadsheet for converting lists of points with Cartesian (X,Y,Z) coordinates into survey leg format data which can be processed with Therion or Survex. Yes I realise that Survex and Therion can process cartesian format data directly, but sometimes you have some data extracted from some old project (or measured off something plotted to one map grid) and you want to apply a declination correction to convert to another grid, or maybe just see what the original survey leg data might have looked like. xtherion crashes with tcl8.4
by Wookey 03 Jul '12

03 Jul '12

I've just discovered that xtherion only actually works with tk8.5, not tk8.4. Is that expected? If you only have tk8.4 installed it dies with a segfault whilst loading fonts during startup. If the authors don't expect it to work with tk8.4 then that's fair enough but I need to change the dependencies so people don't end up trying to use it. Alternatively I can provide details of the crash so we can make sure it _does_ work with 8.4. Wookey -- Principal hats: Linaro, Emdebian, Wookware, Balloonboard, ARM http://wookware.org/

cartoteam variable
by Dirk Peinelt 30 Jun '12

30 Jun '12

Hi Therionisators! The topo- and explo-team can be used in the survey data specification. (centerline: team & explo-team) But where can be used cartoteam and carto-date? In the map, I would like the scrap painters and his statistics. Of course, without use manually the comment variable. /dirk

Re: [Therion] LRUD data
by McLendonJP＠aol.com 27 Jun '12

Graham, I've got the centerline and LRUD data all together in the same block, as in "data normal station left right up down newline length compass clino" and immediately before it "units length feet" but it still treats my input numbers at meters instead of feet (for the LRUD). Olly's suggestion to use "units left right up down feet" works perfectly to get Therion to treat the numbers as feet. Thanks, JP In a message dated 6/27/2012 6:18:31 A.M. Am I missing something? Can I assume that you have separate blocks of data for the centreline and the LRUD? If so then you need to enter the "units length feet" line again after the "data dimensions station left right up down" line. Alternatively just take all your measurements in metres ;-) You are right, however, that Therion determines depth by the difference between the highest and lowest stations. It is difficult to see how else it would work. It is a trivial matter to mark your highest and lowest points as stations. Graham > > > Today's Topics: > > 1.
