Therion & Walls

Further to Robert Countess's post, with which I cannot help, I just continue to wonder at why Mac's are deemed to be so 'easy to use'. Does anyone (Footleg?) have a converter which will take Walls data & import it into a format acceptable to Therion? I have some, though by no means as much as Robert. To open an existing file start Terminal and type xtherion followed by the filename you wish to open. You may drag the filename from a Finder window. XVI Export with select map
by Torsten Schnitter 31 Mar '15

Hi all Some time ago I asked a question on this list but didn't get a solution. So I would like to try again. Or does nobody else have this problem? Qustion/problem is: I'm using Therion 5.3.16 on Windows. I have a problem with exporting the xvi-files. In the documentation it's written that you can have maps consisting of surveys. And so I did. I built a map with projection plan containing just surveys (some surveylines). In the config-file I selected this map and exportet a xvi-file. But the output of the xvi-file contains all survey lines and not just the few inserted into the selected map. (If I select these lines in the config file instead of the map it's working as expected and the xvi-file contains just selected lines) Map was defined within "survey-abc" like: map xyz -proj plan line1@survey-x line2@survey-y endmap I used "select map xyz@survey-abc" and "export ...xvi..." Any help? cheers, Torsten

-map-level with export map
by Bruce 29 Mar '15

29 Mar '15

I would like a pdf map, that contains all the submaps on their own layers, and with offsets and previews visible. I have been trying to make sense of –map-level as it relates to exporting map outputs, and referring to the Therion Book. • map-level <number> ◃ valid only when a map is selected. Determines the level at which map expansion for atlas export is stopped. By default 0 is used; if ‘basic’ is specified, expansion is done up to the basic maps. Note: Map previews are displayed only as specified in maps in the current map-level. So as documented it seems to apply only to atlas exports, however as discussed previously on this forum it is useful in map exports as it can place each submap on it’s own layer in the resulting pdf file. This is what I would like to achieve, however doing so has the disadvantage of hiding offset passages (and their previews). The preview hiding is hinted at in the Therion Book, but not the offset hiding. So experimenting… select SpanishParrotPlanMap -map-level 0 …selects only the top level map for export and results in a pdf with 3 layers, preview above, SpanishParrotPlanMap and preview below. Because I have specified an offset below in one of the sub-maps, the preview below layer contains the shaded passage shape, and the map-connection points are displayed in the SpanishParrotPlanMap layer. This seems to be exactly the same as the default behaviour resulting from… select SpanishParrotPlanMap #ie no map-level specified. The above are the pdf map characteristics I want, but in addition, sometimes, I want a layer for each submap. select SpanishParrotPlanMap -map-level 1 … should perhaps achieve what I want, but I find I have no offset and no preview below. I do however have a layer for each submap as well as empty layers for preview above and below. So lets try selecting both flavours of the map… select SpanishParrotPlanMap -map-level 0 select SpanishParrotPlanMap -map-level 1 Some improvement. I have an offset, and map and submap layers in the pdf, ordered according to the order of my select statements. BUT the preview layer is empty and the map-connection point dashed lines to not display. Other variants I tried… select SpanishParrotPlanMap -map-level 1 -map-level 0 …this only creates output based on the last –map-level statement. So it should probably throw a warning or error. select SpanishParrotPlanMap -map-level 0, 1 # causes error select SpanishParrotPlanMap -map-level 0 1 # causes error select SpanishParrotPlanMap -map-level [0 1] # causes error So is there a way to specify the creation of a pdf layer for each submap, while retaining the preview, offset and map-connection visibility? As an aside, in 2011 I requested an easy toggle for offsets. http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gis.therion/2759/match=offset It would seem that the current behaviour of –map-level can be used to achieve this for exported maps. Not sure how it affects exported atlas, but I’m not going to worry about that until another day. Bruce I

How to create KML files
by Bill Gee 23 Mar '15

23 Mar '15

Hello everyone - I am trying to create a KML file. Therion throws an error: "therion: warning -- data not georeferenced -- unable to export KML file" I think this is because I have not included latitude/longitude information. My question is ... How is latitude and longitude specified? Reading through the Therion book, it seems it is done in the "cs" statement within the centerline. However, the syntax is not clear. Are there any examples that show how it is done? Thanks - Bill Gee

german expression for depth-legend
by Markus Boldt 07 Mar '15

Hello, if I let make a legend for the depth by color (colour map-fg altitude) the title of that legend is Höhe des Titelfeldes. That is nonsense for me. Is it possible to change that? May be with some TEX or METAPOST? In the wiki I have found how it is possible to make changes by myself. But in my installation (5.3.16/Win7) is no directory named therion/thlang ? AND I thing I`am too stupid for that.. Many thanks for an answer Greetings Markus

XVI export with map selected is not working
by Torsten Schnitter 03 Mar '15

Hi all I'm using Therion 5.3.16 on Windows. (If I select these lines in the config file instead of the map it's working as expected and the xvi-file contains just selected lines) So what's wrong, is it a bug? Second question: I do have some splay stations within some surveylines. Is it possible to export a xvi-file without this splay stations? (e.g. I'm using splay stations for resurveyed points an I do not want to have these in the xvi-files but want to have them in the survey-files.) Third question: Is it possible to plot left and right information to the output if I select surveylines for pdf output? I want to have a pdf file like the xvi-file. This may help for sketching the cave as you can print it on paper and use it as a template. Thanks for your help. cheers, Torsten

Joining old and new surveys

One always has to remember, however, that Compass natively stores all linear measurements in feet and decimal feet, not in metres. This is the case however the data is inputted. I have accidentally ended up with some alarmingly long caves before remembering this! Graham
