Really bad idea?
by Marco Menchise 28 Jun '16

Hello. I like to have cave maps colored by altitude. I think color is an important piece of information, especially in plant layouts. As far as I know, Therion is able to color on scrap basis only. Because I also like to have the same color in the same piece of cave either in elevation and plant map, I usually split scraps at the same borders in both projections. This is quite cumbersome and time consuming. Also, there's no practical way to do such a split when trying to draw on a touch screen while hanging up from a rope.. So I'm proposing a solution: is it possible to split scraps offline based on altitude? I'm thinking about a script which takes a (series of) .th2 file as its input, and generates another .th2 file containing no scraps deeper than, say, M meters. Scraps with stations whose vertical distance exceeds M should be split in two or more scraps. Areas, lines and other symbols should be connected (if possible) across scraps. Using a script like that, one could push M around to zero and get a cave filled with something like a color gradient, which could be wonderful. Is that a crazy idea? ;-) Marco

Updated KML exports and other changes
by Владимир Георгиев 13 Jun '16

Hi Lately I updated the KML map and model exports to include more information like the cave depth and length, map-comment, entrances and better titles. They also include the map or survey structure so you can turn parts of the map/model on or off in Google Earth. I spoke with Bruce Mutton about these and he gave me some nice ideas and also tested the exports. There is a list of these and other Therion and XTherion changes here https://github.com/vldgeorgiev/therion/wiki/Changelog I wrote them down to keep the list more clear. Again if someone wants to test the changes I would be thankful for comments. The compiled Windows apps can be downloaded here https://github.com/vldgeorgiev/therion/wiki And the code is also published in the forked repo if someone want to recompile it. https://github.com/vldgeorgiev/therion Vlad

Ok, that works for me. I had not realised that there is also a metapost variable. dirk -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: therion-bounces(a)speleo.sk [mailto:therion-bounces@speleo.sk] Im Auftrag von therion-request(a)speleo.sk Gesendet: Dienstag, 7. Therion on Mac El Capitan
by Philippe Vernant 08 Jun '16

Hi guys, Does anyone runs therion under Mac OSX El Capitan. I can run xtherion, but it does not want to open the files, there is no way to get them clickable. I’ve tried the homebrew version and also compiled it myself but the results are the same. Any idea ? Cheers, Phil

MetaPost/Tex: variable \magdecl

Is there a way to handle the content of the \magdecl TEX-variable in METAPOST? (Therion V5.3.16) In a string or numeric? - I think, i've an syntax problem. 1.) string handling: string dec; %dec:="3.022"; % FINE! dec:=\magdecl; % ERROR p_label.top(thTEX(dec),(0,0),0,8); % >> string output 2.) numeric handling: numeric dec; %dec:=3.022; % FINE! dec:=\magdecl; % ERROR p_label.top(thTEX(decimal dec),(0,0),0,8); % >> numeric to string output

Hi Bruce, what i mean is to use the values of the Therion Tex-variables in a MetaPost symbol definition. To calculate some or to print it out. I don't no if there is a special syntax to get them. dirk -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: therion-bounces(a)speleo.sk [mailto:therion-bounces@speleo.sk] Im Auftrag von therion-request(a)speleo.sk Gesendet: Sonntag, 5. Joining surface terrian data tiles
by John Stevens 03 Jun '16

03 Jun '16

This is a similar task to my previous question but the solution may be quite different. I am using 2m lidar data, issued in 1km square tiles. These produce a very nice .lox image (you need to turn lighting on to see it properly,[Tools-Scene-Surface-Lighting]) #surfacellangattock2015.th # llangattock lidar data SO 2015 surface cs OSGB:SO grid-units metres grid 20000 15000 2 2 500 500 296.0408 295.9423 295.8873 295.75 295.6905 295.4575 295.2851 295.1193 295.0154 295.0615 294.9248 294.8278 294.7503 294.4315 294.2848 294.3126 294.4237 294.2691 294.0023 293.7406 293.5974 293.4051 293.1954 292.9969 292.7691 292.5034 292.4049 292.3217 292.1671 292.0351 291.8168 291.7964 291.618 291.5049 291.4644 …………………………………………… endsurface Attached is a sample of the files. As you may see the data is invisible but it is there, if you drag a cursor over the data area. Each line has 500 altitude heights and there are 500 lines of data. A, is the line length of the data , (some 4000 char) a problem with showing the numbers? B, To cover larger areas, I can easily add another 500 line but to do the whole system area, I will need over 30 tiles, Thats quite a bit of data to put in one file. So I have made a master file to combine each of the km tiles I need :- #surfacellangattocklidar.th # llangattock lidar data input surfacellangattock1815.th input surfacellangattock1915.th input surfacellangattock2015.th This compiles fine but the lox file only shows the data from the last file read. But the size of the lox file is larger. 1 tile gives a 1.9kb lox file, 2 tiles makes a 3.9kb and 3 tiles gives 5.8kb. So as the data seems to be there, it there some function to get it to show? John

Joining surface images
by John Stevens 03 Jun '16

03 Jun '16

I know I could use photoshop etc to paste together surface image tiles, but it would be easier if I could specify which tiles I wish to use for each cave and only use a large compilation when looking as the whole system I am using altitude coloured lidar images which come in 1km square tiles as does the underlying data. If I have :- # llangattock lidar data images surface cs OSGB:SO bitmap images/so2212_dtm_2m_w.jpg [0 0 21000 12000 500 500 22000 13000] # ocaf entrance bitmap images/so2112_dtm_2m_w.jpg [0 0 22000 12000 500 500 23000 13000] # ocaf entrance bitmap images/so2212_dtm_2m_w.jpg [0 0 21000 13000 500 500 22000 14000] # ocaf entrance bitmap images/so2112_dtm_2m_w.jpg [0 0 22000 13000 500 500 23000 14000] # ocaf entrance #bitmap images/so21122213_dtm_2m_w.jpg [0 0 21000 12000 1000 1000 23000 14000] # ocaf entrance endsurface If only used the last image specified. I have the 4 images joined below but for larger parts of the project its not very easy to keep changing the image or having massive image files to slow things down. Any work arounds? John

scrap-drawn maps to small by factor 2
by Christian Rößler (Roessler) 01 Jun '16

01 Jun '16

Hallo everybody, I noticed a strange problem drawing a quick survey of a little adit today. This being a little adit I immediately noticed that the scale bar is off by a factor 2, as 20 real meters (in the adit) gave 10 meters in the scale bar. Then I fell back to Therion defaults (no values of mine, no input'ed metapost files etc.), but could not find anything unusual. I noticed then I had the same problem in the survey before, so I wonder. I forced the polygon draw printed besides the scraps-drawn map, then I saw the polygon draw is correct but the acrap-drawn outlines (via th2) are not. So I think I have done some mistake drawing the outlines (curve points followed by 'convert to curve'), but I cannot find anything regarding some scaling I have inadvertly done. As I assume it has something to do with scraps, here the first scrap line from th2: scrap scrap1 -scale [-128.0 -147.685 954.77 -147.685 0.0 0.0 27.502357999999997 0.0 m] Well, can anyone give me a hint? I will gladly give more information, if I just know which:). By the way: I confess I have not read the attachment policy of the list. I risk a little attachment anyway; on may see the scaling mishap in the resulting pdf.
