Re: [Therion] Issue with magnetic declination calculation

Assuming you have a coordinate system set, it does sound like a bug. Bruce Sent from my Samsung device, hence the typo's -------- Original message -------- From: McLendonJP(a)aol.com Date: 20/05/2016 05:42 (GMT+12:00) To: therion(a)speleo.sk Subject: [Therion] Issue with magnetic declination calculation I'm not sure if it is a bug or not, but I noticed that if I have one or more undated surveys I get a warning saying "Unable to compute magnetic declination for undated surveys." However if all of the surveys are undated I no longer get this warning and the output is uncorrected for declination. This is bad IMO because if you forgot to include the date in your survey files you would get an uncorrected output without realizing it. JP

Therion compiling error (Loch, lxGUI)
by Christian Rößler (Roessler) 14 May '16

14 May '16

Good evening, I am trying to compile Therion on an openSuse 13.2 64bit, and had no success so far. After some research (including the mailing list, of course) I noticed it seems to be hanging on Loch compiling, as you maybe would have guessed:). I used the patch of detrito (29.12.2015 10:56, many thanks for that, by the way!) and set C_INCLUDE_PATH=/usr/include/vtk-6.1, and also CPLUS_INCLUDE_PATH=/usr/include/vtk-6.1 (a link from /usr/include/vtk --> vtk-6.1 would have also sufficed, perhaps, after I saw I"/usr/include/vtk/" in the compiling messages. But now it hangs at: c++ -c -Wall -D_GNU_SOURCE -DLOCH -DLXLINUX -I/usr/lib64/wx/include/gtk2- unicode-3.0 -I/usr/include/wx-3.0 -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -DwxDEBUG_LEVEL=0 -DWXUSINGDLL -D__WXGTK__ -pthread -Wno-deprecated -I/usr/include/freetype2 -I"/usr/include/vtk/" -O2 -o lxGUI.o lxGUI.cxx lxGUI.cxx: In member function ‘int lxFrame::GetFileType(wxString)’: lxGUI.cxx:517:73: error: invalid cast from type ‘wxString’ to type ‘const wxChar* {aka const wchar_t*}’ #define matchtype(w,t) if (fName.EndsWith((const wxChar *)wxString(_T(w)))) return t; ^ lxGUI.cxx:518:3: note: in expansion of macro ‘matchtype’ matchtype(".lox",1); ^ lxGUI.cxx:517:73: error: invalid cast from type ‘wxString’ to type ‘const wxChar* {aka const wchar_t*}’ #define matchtype(w,t) if (fName.EndsWith((const wxChar *)wxString(_T(w)))) return t; ^ lxGUI.cxx:519:3: note: in expansion of macro ‘matchtype’ matchtype(".LOX",1); ^ lxGUI.cxx:517:73: error: invalid cast from type ‘wxString’ to type ‘const wxChar* {aka const wchar_t*}’ #define matchtype(w,t) if (fName.EndsWith((const wxChar *)wxString(_T(w)))) return t; ^ lxGUI.cxx:520:3: note: in expansion of macro ‘matchtype’ matchtype(".plt",2); ^ lxGUI.cxx:517:73: error: invalid cast from type ‘wxString’ to type ‘const wxChar* {aka const wchar_t*}’ #define matchtype(w,t) if (fName.EndsWith((const wxChar *)wxString(_T(w)))) return t; ^ lxGUI.cxx:521:3: note: in expansion of macro ‘matchtype’ matchtype(".PLT",2); ^ lxGUI.cxx:517:73: error: invalid cast from type ‘wxString’ to type ‘const wxChar* {aka const wchar_t*}’ #define matchtype(w,t) if (fName.EndsWith((const wxChar *)wxString(_T(w)))) return t; ^ lxGUI.cxx:522:3: note: in expansion of macro ‘matchtype’ matchtype(".3d",3); ^ lxGUI.cxx:517:73: error: invalid cast from type ‘wxString’ to type ‘const wxChar* {aka const wchar_t*}’ #define matchtype(w,t) if (fName.EndsWith((const wxChar *)wxString(_T(w)))) return t; ^ lxGUI.cxx:523:3: note: in expansion of macro ‘matchtype’ matchtype(".3D",3); ^ Makefile:129: recipe for target 'lxGUI.o' failed make[1]: *** [lxGUI.o] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/chr/downloads/frisch/therion/loch' Makefile:182: recipe for target 'loch/loch' failed make: *** [loch/loch] Error 2 …and I do not know how to get over this error. I would very much like to use Therion again. Has anyona a hint for me how to cope with this error, please? Best regards, Christian

A couple of Therion updates: KML and line-rope
by Владимир Георгиев 13 May '16

13 May '16

Hi Here are a couple of updates I did, which might be useful to someone. 1) KML model and map export. When exporting a KML it always got a title of "Therion KML", which made it harder to navigate when several files are opened in Google Earth. I updated the title to contain the survey title in whatever language is selected for the export. The description contains the length and depth for the cave. 2) I wanted to use a rope line, but the existing symbol for it was hidden and not completely finished. I used the existing metapost, which displays the rope very nicely, with a couple of additions. You can control whether the rebelay rope loops are shown with the option "-rebelays on/off" and the anchor points with "-anchors on/off" The line handrail looked very similar to rope, so I changed the little dots to squares. Attached are the code patches and a couple of screenshots. If someone recompiles and tests those I would be happy to hear the comments :) Vladimir

Fantastic Vladimir I have been wishing for 'proper' kml titles for many years. If you are still enthusiastic then there are other outputs that need titles, html lists for one.Looking forward to when your recent patches are incorporated into the mainstream windows install files. export more than one map?
by Henry_Bennett＠Dell.com 12 May '16

Dell - Internal Use - Confidential Trying to export a survey that is primarily one system but also show the other smaller caves in the area. Easy to do in a single map but then the statistics reflect all the surveys. Is it possible to export to pdf multiple maps? Or is there a workaround? Such as telling therion to olnly pick up length and team from a specific branch? Thanks, Henry Bennett Dell Corporation Limited is registered in England and Wales. Metapost snippets out-source-able from thconfig/layout?
by Christian Rößler (Roessler) 11 May '16

11 May '16

Hallo everybody, due to learning some metapost for making a Schacht (shaft?) symbol, I got a thconfig file getting really fat and difficult to maintain. Is there a possibility to source metapost snippets from another file? Neither 'source' nor 'input' (Handbook p. 15) seem to work, which does not wonder me as the context 'layout' has to be obeyed. So, how are the people here handling that? Big, fat thconfig, or is there another way? Best regards, Christian

Line label: Line printable? Are walls printable as dotted/dashed lines?
by Christian Rößler (Roessler) 09 May '16

09 May '16

Hallo everyone, two questions: - I would like sometimes to draw an Erzgang (ore load? lode? mineral vein?) into a mine survey. The line type Label (Beschriftung) would fit into that bill nicely. Is it possible to draw the line along to the label? And it is possible to draw the line and keep the label text together (instead of being distributed along the whole line)? Well, or is there a better way? - Is it possible to mark a wall line to be printed dashed/dotted? I could not find any line options save id in the Therion handbook (p. 29). I would like to do that for wall types when I only guess the continuation of an adit. Or do I need to do metapost magic for that as eg. in http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gis.therion/2189 (search for dashed)? Thanks, and best regards, Christian
