user-defined attributes to database export
by Dirk Peinelt 15 Mar '16

15 Mar '16

I've a lot of user-defined attributes on the station with entrance flag, centreline and survey object. The values are visible as a further column in the html list-exports. The data should be also available in the sql database export. Is there a way to manage this? Centreline, survey and station custom attributes should be enough. But map, scrap, point, line and surface custom attributes is not needed in the sql file. Three normalized tables would be fine: C_ATTR_STATION C_ATTR_CENTRELINE C_ATTR_SURVEY Each with an ID field of the corresponding table object, attribute name and value. //dirk

Re: Therion Tutorial Update - Data Structures and Layouts

Hi Footleg, you don't show using right click with mouse when drawing scraps. It is much faster way. Drawing line - one may not draw beziers directly. It is possible to draw only points which are not "smooth" and then use "Convert to curve" feature from "Edit line" menu. There are only small correction necessary. The problem with transparency is that all viewers using Apple library and several others (Sumatra) ignore group transparency which is in definition of PDF. So it is bug. (According to Martin Budaj). m.s. On Mar 15, 2016, at 03:46 PM, Footleg <drfootleg(a)gmail.com> wrote: Hot off the press, I have published another update to my Therion Tutorial. Therion Tutorial Update - Data Structures and Layouts

Colouring by map or scrap
by Graham Mullan 11 Mar '16

11 Mar '16

The problem that I have with colour is that assigning the colours automatically means it's difficult to get matching colours on plan and elevation. It works on straightforward cases, you just put the maps in the same order on plan & elevation & it assigns the colours in the same order. This does not work if you have a number of elevations on different projections. Thus far I've only managed this match by post-processing in GIMP or Paint.net. The ability to assign colours would be useful indeed. One of these is to colour scraps different colours. All I can find in the Therion Book is how to specify to colour map-fg by altitude or by scrap. If I do either of these then the colours are assigned automatically. I've searched my email history and seen that colour by altitude has been discussed before, but I can't work out if there is supposed to be a way to set the colour for a scrap? If this isn't currently possible, then if would be ideally implemented in the layout so that if is not coded into the drawings of the scraps themselves. Perhaps a syntax to let you specify as follows: colour <scrap name> <colour> Am I missing a way to do this in the existing release? Footleg

cave database
by Martin Sluka 27 Feb '16

27 Feb '16

https://github.com/masneyb/cavedbmanager This project was written to simplify the data management for a state and/or county cave survey. It eliminates the need for the manual duplication data, which will help to save time and minimize errors. This significantly reduces the hassle of formatting the book and allows the user to concentrate on the collection of data. The system will dynamically generate various types of files based on the data that you upload to the database: • GIS files: SHP, KML (Google Earth), GPX, Maptech, and PNG (topo maps and aerial imagery). • A PDF that is suitable for publication. • An IS09660 CD/DVD image that can be included with the book that includes select entrance photos, maps, and references. All of the filenames are standardized to a common naming convetion. • To-do list • CSV file (Spreadsheet) This project is currently used by the West Virginia Speleological Survey to manage the cave data within the state. The web interface is only available to its members.

list of coordinates of stations
by Martin Sluka 21 Feb '16

Therion -> export model .3d file Use 3dtopos program from Survex package or open it in Aven (Survex) and export list of coordinates: 3dtopos Name 3dtopos—produce a .pos file from a .3d file Synopsis 3dtopos [options] {.3d file} [.pos file] Description 3dtopos takes a .3d file and produces a .pos file which contains a list of all the stations with coordinates (ordered x,y,z [East, North, Up]) and complete names. The stations are sorted such that numbers occur in the correct order (so “2” before “10”). 3dtopos even sorts numbers with a prefix and/or suffix, so you’d get: 040.sv8 040.sv8a 040.sv8b 040.sv8c 040.sv9 040.sv10 040.sv11 40_entrance_tag 40b_entrance_tag You can also export .pos files from aven in versions 1.2.19 and later.

What means that or where is the fault?

After compiling I get the error “warning -- can't open cavern log file for input”. Therion works well, but there is this error. What is wrong? And after doing the “Vladimir-Chances” into the INI and TCL file the Colors are working. But drawing an area is not further working? I can not define the points for the area. What is here wrong? Thanks for getting help. Markus
