Development 5.4.1+4369eea inverts and recolours altitude legend
by Bruce Mutton 04 Dec '17

04 Dec '17

I've just noticed that the latest development snapshot 5.4.1+4369eea seems to have messed with the altitude legend. You can see from the screenshot below, which shows part of identical project compilations, one with 9d96803 and then one with 4369eea. Pretty sure I have not made any other changes that could have caused this at my end, and I see that some of the intervening commits on github relate to colour changes. Neutral (perhaps) changes are that there are more colour bands and the colours are brighter, in the legend at least, though not in the map. A negative change is that the altitude range is now upside down. Bruce

You may use top most menu (File commands) to select objects or scraps. m.s. It is not interactive (too much work), but you can select or enter 2 points of vector and move entire line or scrap just by one click. Controls for this feature are at the end of objects toolbar. Hello, I installed Therion for Windows on my mac with parallel desktop. All other software operate with this method but I encounter a problem with Therion. I can open this software but when I want compile a survey I encounter this error message: ERROR: Can not execute "cmd.exe /c "C:\\Users\\*********\\AppData\\Local\\Therion\\therion.exe" -x thconfig . I use Therion 5.4.4 and windows 10 professional 64b What’s weird is that has worked one time only. My surveys data are not incorrect because they operate with friend’s computer... Do you have you a solution ? Thank’s, Martin

Therion crashes in shapes.h when generating 3D
by Bruce Mutton 27 Nov '17

27 Nov '17

Michael After some cosmetic changes to your thconfig I managed to compile. I also added some georeferencing so I could export kml files. As per the attached pdf, It looks like your scrap interiors are properly defined, except for the three armed passage near the top left. I have not found it written down, but my assumption is that each scrap should be a single contiguous piece of passage. My experience is that 'export map' does not produce properly rendered kml files unless you stick to this 'rule'. The SA9.th2 file you supplied looks like it should be 9 scraps (including the cross-section), one for each contiguous section of passage drawn. The attached model kml looks fine I think, but as expected the map kml has not been able to render. Refer to https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/tips#avoiding_invisible_or_misshapen_scraps_i n_loch_and_google_earth When I tried your export model to lox I get the same Windows error that you reported. With such a chaotic scrap, I would expect unpredictable things to happen. The lox file generator is trying to use the scrap outlines to determine the model shape, and so I would suggest that if the kml map is having difficulty, then a model trying to inherit scrap outlines is likely to have even more trouble. I would suggest either making each distinct piece of drawing a separate scrap, or drawing your scrap progressively from a single starting point, if you want to create models that are not purely centreline based. In the attached config file, if you comment out the export model lox line, the attached project files compile without error (provided you create an output folder first). If there is a Therion development task here, then it would be to detect these anomalies at the 'export map kml' and 'export model-using-outlines' stage and exit gracefully by reporting a warning in the first case, and an error in the second case. Michael, The th file with centerline is not centerline you used when sketching in PocketTopo. So there is not possible to assign stations from your sketch to stations in your centerline. Correct way could be to connect both centerlines in another th file one level higher and command "equate" equate SA09@old_survey 1.0@new_survey A scrap is a continuous small piece of cave. To define discontinuous scrap with holes is not the best idea. I attached your th2 file divided to 8 scraps, but there are not stations defined in centerline so the map is not possible to export. Any scrap must be calibrated (georeferenced) either by at least two stations or scaled in scrap section. The section was not scaled, so I did it too. It is good idea to add all stations belonging to a scrap to that scrap first. You may use "Convert to curve" command in Line section to smooth your walls and other lines. In your scrap there are several empty lines and lines with only one point. Delete them. Increase size of legend
by Bill Gee 16 Nov '17

16 Nov '17

Hello everyone - I need to make the legend on a map larger. The cave has grown to nearly 3km of passage, and even when printed on 60cm x 100cm paper the legend is too smal to read. Even a magnifying glass does not help! I referred to a thread from about two years ago which discusses this subject. Henry Bennett provided a combination of MetaPost and TeX code that is supposed to make the legend larger. It works ... Sort of! Much is left out. Here is the code I have in the layout section of my thconfig file: # Change the size of the legend code metapost def draw_legend_box = %make the objects in the legend boxes bigger currentpicture := currentpicture scaled 5.0; clip currentpicture to unitsquare scaled 10u; drawoptions(); pickup PenB; draw unitsquare scaled 10u ; enddef; %clear the background of the larger legend boxes def clean_legend_box = unfill unitsquare scaled 10u; enddef; %change the value of inscale to fill the legend boxes def inscale = xscaled legend_scale yscaled (0.6*legend_scale) %xscaled legend_scale yscaled legend_scale enddef; endcode code tex-map \def\maplayout{ \legendbox{3}{65}{W}{ \legendwidth 80 cm \legendtextsize={\size[74]} \hsize=\legendwidth \northarrow\bigskip \the\cavename \the\comment \input th_legend } } endcode The legend that results from this is about the right size. However, only the symbol table is enlarged. The north arrow is still too small and everything else that is supposed to be in the legend is missing. The attached screen shot shows what I get. The Therion Book has a section describing the TeX macros that can be used. It looks like the documentation is not complete. Some of the macros are shown with options and parameters, but not all. There are samples on the Wiki that show additional options. Is there a document that describes ALL of the options and parameters for the TeX macros? How are the parameters in the MetaPost section of the code related? Looking at the legend I get, I see that the boxes enclosing each symbol are about the right size but the symbols drawn in them are (in some cases) too small. Look at the symbols for pillar and stalagmite, for example. Others, like the pendant (a user-defined symbol) are too large. Which of the MetaPost lines control that? Does anyone have suggestions about what I am missing? If anyone wants to see the full map, let me know. It is nearly 3mb as a PDF, so I don't want to send it to the entire group. Thanks! -- Bill Gee

Development 5.4.1+4369eea inverts and recolours altitude

Are we talking about relative numbers (depth of cave) or absolute numbers (height above sea level)? The former may run differently to the latter. I usually use absolute numbers, if at all possible. Graham
