Error morphing scanned extended profiles survey sketches
by Evaristo Quiroga 06 Jan '18

06 Jan '18

Hi, I have this problem: the xviresult file of the morphing processwith extended profiles is erroneous. The centerline and sketch don't are superposed. The xvi is at 0 0 position, but the sketch are very displaced in Y direction (X it's OK), far 350000000 units. I can do a manual solution but I think it's not normal to have to do this. Calculating the displacement error and manually editing the xvi file with and external editor, to correct the sketch Y coordinate. Thanks, Evaristo Quiroga

colour graduation lookup feature - altitude
by Bruce Mutton 06 Jan '18

06 Jan '18

Stacho I've had a wee play with colour graduation lookup feature, at least as far as altitudes go. First thing I noticed is that it does not work if the lookup is defined inside a layout. . LayoutMapThisCave.thc [89] -- unknown option -- lookup altitude -title "Altitude legend" But if I put it outside of the layout (effectively, even if not actually), inside the thconfig file (like a 'text' definition, it works just fine for altitudes. It feels to me like it should be inside a layout, to be consistent, but perhaps you have a reason? Perhaps it does not matter. The framework seems to be very flexible, allowing many pre defined lookup definitions, and works well for altitudes. I like it. If you are happy for me to do so, I will tidy up the wiki entry that I made on this topic earlier today. * As below, it seems that if an altitude range is defined, then a single altitude in the list will break the default text that Therion puts in the colour legend. I was attempting to get Therion to produce a constant colour over altitude ranges, and interpolate colours between those ranges. As below, I found that it does not work that way. lookup altitude:banded -title "Altitude legend (banded)" [105 150][] "top level" 90 75 [30 60] [] "lower level" endlookup It produces the legend below, and a map that is only partially coloured. The default legend item texts are incorrect. * Adding colours to the top and bottom improves things a little. lookup altitude:banded -title "Altitude legend (banded)" [105 150][100 0 0] "top level" 90 75 [30 60] [0 0 100] "lower level" endlookup The colour graduation is correct, but the map produced only colours the scraps that are within the 'top level' and 'lower level' altitude range. The others (60m to 105m) are uncoloured. * Adding colours to all altitudes does not improve things much. lookup altitude:banded -title "Altitude legend (banded)" [105 150][100 0 0] "top level" 90 [50 0 0] 75 [0 0 50] [30 60] [0 0 100] "lower level" endlookup The map is still uncoloured in the middle altitudes (60m to 105m). * If I leave out the 90 and 75, the result is similar, again with uncoloured scraps in the central altitude range. * Just to be sure, I attempted three bands. lookup altitude:banded -title "Altitude legend (banded)" [105 150][100 0 0] "top level" [60 105] [] "middle level" [30 60] [0 0 100] "lower level" endlookup This worked perfectly, colouring all scraps according to their altitude band. * And just to finish up, I removed the text overrides. lookup altitude:banded -title "Altitude legend (banded)" [105 150][100 0 0] [60 105] [] [30 60] [0 0 100] Endlookup Again, perfect! The default text is OK this time. Maybe tomorrow I'll see if I can break dates, maps and scraps! Regards Bruce

Therion compiles but overwrites log file
by Bruce Mutton 05 Jan '18

05 Jan '18

Back in September I mentioned similar problem to what I am experiencing now, with one project. An error deleting temporary log files causes the log file contents to be deleted and replaced with this message. On this occasion, Therion seems to be compiling just fine, but I have no (meaningful) log file! "C:\Program Files (x86)\Therion\therion.exe: warning -- error deleting temporary directory -- C:\Users\Bruce\AppData\Local\Temp\th7916" The temporary folder contains a single file like data.1 attached. This is only an occasional problem. Mostly I get a valid log file, but it does seem to be persistent with some projects and not others. What I would like is for the above message to be appended to the log file, and not replace the contents of the log file. Therion 5.4.1+e7e9d34 (2017-12-14) Bruce

Group text request
by Bruce Mutton 05 Jan '18

05 Jan '18

Merry Christmas all I was just trying to hide all text on a map, and noticed that group text does not include point station-name, point wall-altitude, or point continuation It currently includes point label, remark, date and line label, as far as I know. May I request that these three types of point object (station-name, wall-altitude and continuation) be added to 'group text' with the next update. Bruce

once more area blocks
by Markus Boldt 29 Dec '17

29 Dec '17

Yes, I have found the possibility (symbol-color area blocks [xx xx xx]), but it affected only to the blocks. What I want to have is a completely other colored area with blocks in it. So in this area must be a change to the background-color, I guess. But how? Regards Markus

Hi, is there a possibility to give an "area blocks" another color as the forground-colour? Like it is possible for area water with metapost. Regards Markus

Development 5.4.1+4369eea inverts and recolours altitude legend
by Bruce Mutton 14 Dec '17

14 Dec '17

Stacho FYI not only are the colours inverted, but they are a bit out of order as well. Refer the images. I have not used any lookup syntax yet, partly as I am keeping my projects compatible with earlier Therion versions. These were generated with 5.4.1+ce29e7b Bruce From: Therion [mailto:therion-bounces@speleo.sk] On Behalf Of Stacho Mudrak via Therion Sent: Thursday, 9 November 2017 11:54 PM To: List for Therion users <therion(a)speleo.sk> Cc: Stacho Mudrak <lists(a)group-s.sk> Subject: Re: [Therion] Development 5.4.1+4369eea inverts and recolours altitude legend Hi Bruce, thanks for pointing out this bug. I will check the order of numbers, I have probably made some mistake when dealing with automatic color scale generation. I have rewritten the scale code completely, but I had no time until now to write the docs. But if you want to try, something like that should now work in the layout: lookup altitude -title "Altitude legend" 700 [100 0 0] "700 m a.s.l." 680 660 640 620 600 [0 0 100] "below 600 m" endlookup It should generate red -> blue scale with desired values. Also explo-date, topo-date should now work with addition to maps, scraps. E.g. export map -layout-color map-fp topo-date and for example: lookup topo-date 2010.12.31 [] "2010 and before" 2011.12.31 [] 2011 2012.12.31 [] 2012 - [] "2013 and later" endlookup You may specify multiple lookup tables for same criterion using ":" separator in label lookup altitude:scale1 600 800 endlookup and lookup altitude:scale2 800 750 700 endlookup and use then "color map-fg altitude:scale1" or "color map-fg altitude:scale2" You may use also: lookup maps map1@some_survey [color] map2 [color] map3 [color] endlookup Same should work with scraps. With maps, also more simple way should work - you may specify color of a particular map within selection. select map1 -color [100 0 0] Also intervals should work: lookup altitude [1500 1600] [] "cave floor 1" [1800 1900] [] "cave floor 2" endlookup If you are willing to try, I would appreciate any feedback. Probably there are a lot of bugs because a lot of use-cases. I was not able to test them all. S. You can see from the screenshot below, which shows part of identical project compilations, one with 9d96803 and then one with 4369eea. Pretty sure I have not made any other changes that could have caused this at my end, and I see that some of the intervening commits on github relate to colour changes. Neutral (perhaps) changes are that there are more colour bands and the colours are brighter, in the legend at least, though not in the map. A negative change is that the altitude range is now upside down. Including compile time in map legend
by Bill Gee 08 Dec '17

08 Dec '17

Hello everyone - I am back with more TeX questions1 I can hear the groaning already ... :-) The goal is to include the time of compilation in the map legend. I already found the Therion macro for \currentdate, and it works perfectly. However, there is no equivalent macro for \currenttime. I have been reading Knuth's tome "The TeXbook" and searching all over the Internet. What I have tried: 1) Use the pdfLaTeX macro \pdfcreationdate. This works, but produces a string that is nearly unintelligible. It looks like this: D:20171208103654-06’00’ Yep, that is the time ... and the date, and the time zone offset! Too much and not in a useful format. 2) Use the \the\time primitive from TeX. This also works, except the time it prints is the number of minutes since midnight. Not quite as busy as option one, but still not readable by ordinary mortals. 3) Using either the datetime (deprecated) or the datetime2 package. Datetime2 includes a definition for \DTMtime which produces the output I want. The problem here is that Therion does not pass "\usepackage{datetime2}" to pdfLaTeX in any usable form. I put it right after the "code tex-map" line. The error message is: ========= (./data.tex (./th_enc.tex) (./th_texts.tex) (./th_resources.tex (/usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/tex/generic/pdftex/glyphtounicode.tex)) (./th_fontdef.tex{/usr/share/texlive/texmf-dist/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap/ pdftex. map}) ! Undefined control sequence. l.622 \usepackage {datetime2} The control sequence at the end of the top line of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'), type `I' and the correct spelling (e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue, and I'll forget about whatever was undefined. =========== Yes, I have the datetime2 package on my computer. I can create sample TeX documents where it works as expected. 4) I created test TeX document to see if I could convert the output of \time into a pair of numbers that can be joined with a string. The math is easy, except that pdfLateX complains about missing numbers. The problem is that \time produces a string, not a number, and the \divide macro can't work with that. Possible solutions: 1) Figure out a way to get pdfLaTeX to convert the output of \time into a number without using packages. 2) Figure out a way to get Therion to pass \usepackage{} to pdfLaTeX. 3) Add a \currenttime macro to Therion in the next version. Any other suggestions? -- Bill Gee
