continuation list station numbers do not seem to align
by Andrew Atkinson 20 Dec '10

20 Dec '10

Hello I have been using the point possible continuation in th2 files. When I generate a list the station seems to bear no resemblance to where it is on the survey. They all seem to be 1 or 2 point single digit (using pocket topo notation.) I hve assumed the station would be the nearest station (in the scrap?) What am I miss understanding, or doing wrong. attached is one the th2 file and the html list output. Also it occurs to me, often we number a QM with a unique identifier. Now I know that I could just make it in visible and/or set a attr to done. but it might be usefull to have this built in so a historic record is keeped, allowing the list function to show unexplored or explored leads, probably needs more thinking about thanks Andrew

Multiple scrap outlines
by Bruce 19 Dec '10

19 Dec '10

I've just run one of my old thconfig files with 5.3.6 to produce a .lox file, and noticed a couple of new errors/warnings (or at least I've not noticed them before) as below. D:\Program Files\Therion\therion.exe: warning -- MiddleEarthCPtoKangaDPlan_s5@MiddleEarth.GLMESM_system -- invalid scrap outline ....... D:\Program Files\Therion\therion.exe: warning -- GreenlinkFPlan_s1@MiddleEarth.GLMESM_system -- multiple scrap outer outlines not supported yet ....... These warnings don't seem to cause any obvious problems (although I have some issues with kml passage outlines for which I've yet to track the cause). Are these the results of new error traps? Something I should be doing different? Bruce

I made a nice svg icon
by Wookey 16 Dec '10

16 Dec '10

In order to have a nicer icon on menu entries, and to avoid recreating the existing one are several resolutions, I turned the existing icon into an SVG file. It would be nice to use this in the startup splash screen as it's rather prettier than the current one. http://wookware.org/files/therion.svg hope that's useful Wookey -- Principal hats: Linaro, Emdebian, Wookware, Balloonboard, ARM http://wookware.org/

Multiple layers of overlayed maps
by Bill Gee 16 Dec '10

16 Dec '10

Hello everyone - Therion 5.3 (stable) running on Fedora 14 ... I am working on a cave which has a very complex maze area. Basically the maze area can be divided into either 3 or 4 layers (depending on how you draw it) which are stacked on top of each other like a cake. I want to produce a map where the lowest part of the maze displays with the rest of the main passage, and each higher layer of the maze is offset from the layer below it So far I have figured out how to get one layer to offset and have its outline (the "preview", I think) display over the main passage. Now I want to take the next layer and have its outline display over the layer below. Here is what I think should happen in the .TH file: =============== map MainCaveMap -title "Elkton Cave - Plan View" -projection plan MainPassage@ElktonCave UpperMaze@ElktonCave [200 30 ft] above UpperMaze2@ElktonCave [200 -100 ft] above endmap map MainPassage -title "Elkton Cave - Plan View" -projection plan (many scraps, names removed for clarity) endmap map UpperMaze -title "Upper maze area" -projection plan MazeA MazeB MazeA2 preview above MainPassage endmap map UpperMaze2 -title "More upper maze" -projection plan MazeC MazeD preview above UpperMaze endmap ================ When I compile the map, it draws the offset maps correctly, However, ALL of the outlines are over the MainPassage map. I don't want that ... I want an outline of UpperMaze over MainPassage, then I want an outline of UpperMaze2 over UpperMaze. I thought that is what would happen with the "preview" directive. Does anyone have suggestion? Thanks - Bill Gee

Re: [Therion] centreline color // altitude & debug label color
by Bruce 14 Dec '10

Dirk I have rerun one of my datasets which might be expected to show up your issues on my machine and it works as expected. I have brown cave centerline, purple stations and green surface centerline. The altitude .'s are all black as they are supposed to be. I did note what I thought was peculiar behaviour or at least gaps in functionality earlier this year. http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gis.therion/2280/match=centreline I don't think I got a response. I notice; symbol-colour point surface-station [54 74 29] # green symbol-colour point cave-station [54 7 60] #purple have no effect. The stations seem to have a single point of control activated by; symbol-colour point station [54 7 60] #purple Just to clarify, your issue relates mainly to the altitude . label taking on the colour of the centerline, randomly, depending on it's position in the th2 file scrap definition? I've moved the wall objects with "altitude ." to the end of the scrap manually and the altitude values are black now. But the scrap debug label are still in red. Any ideas? //dp W7 / 64bit / Therion V5.3.6

FW: Source and Select

I just found the message below on GMANE. My spam filter must have prevented me from getting it. I agree absolutely with your comments Martin. That is why I fell in love with the idea of Therion before I even tried it. My comment in brackets below was trying to address possible pitfalls to the change to Therion that I was suggesting at the time (a single run gives a consistent output set). I come across some surveys and drawings that we have entered into Therion that from the outset should have been thrown away BEFORE considering data entry. That bad. But of course, something is better than nothing, so we entered and drew it. If in the future someone is so annoyed, and a re-survey is done, they would be better to abandon (archive) the whole survey (for that part of the cave - not the whole system) and start again. Definitely NOT the Therion way, (and not my way) but sometimes you have to cut your losses and start again. Bruce On 18.11.2010, at 9:24, Bruce wrote: > (I'm assuming re-survey projects will probably create new maps to go > with the new survey network). It is not the best idea as I understand the therion. re-survey means for me "to correct the errors of former survey". In that case you just correct surveying legs data and drawings in situ. Later you do the same in data editor (comment old data) and in map editor with old version archived. Therion=never do the same again. Or therion=data will never lost. Martin S.

DistoX/Therion weekend course - Mendips, UK
by Andrew Atkinson 10 Dec '10

Wookey and I on behalf of the CSCC are holding a Surveying course at the Wessex on the weekend of 18/19th February. For quite a few of you this will not be a convenient location This course follows the same format as the very successful weekend run in South Wales last month. Three people used the word fun to describe surveying!!! We aim to go through the process of using DistoX with PocketTopo and then use therion to process it More detail available at http://ukcaving.com/board/index.php?topic=11160.0 Thanks to Martin for suggesting I post it here as well Andrew
