FW: white passage shadow under cave blocks out photo

. To: Bruce; Martin Budaj Subject: Fwd: white passage shadow under cave blocks out photo Forwarding your message to Martin, he is making PDF layers. Regards, S. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: 10 October 2010 04:50 Subject: white passage shadow under cave blocks out photo To: Stacho Mudrak Hi Stacho I can post these messages onto the forum once it's back up and running. Just noticed that the relatively new feature that underlies the cave passage leaves behind a white 'shadow' when the cave map layer is turned off in the pdf. I make the surface image placed on the bottom so that the cave shows up nicely over the surface image. This means that the detail of the photo under (above?) the cave passage can never be viewed, as the shadow remains when the cave layer is turned off in the pdf viewer. Perhaps if the white shadow could be made to turn off with it's cave map, the a clean surface image could be viewed? Or is this incompatible with the original purpose of the shadow? Bruce

Multiple surfaces in Loch
by Graham Mullan 07 Nov '10

07 Nov '10

Further to the discussion about this I have just tried, to see what would happen, generating a lox file using one set of DEM data but two separate map images that cover different parts of the area. Only the second one gets picked up in the generated lox file, not both. Oh well. Graham -- graham.mullan(a)coly.org.uk 0117 9502556 or 07887 637064 (or 0844 2327803)

surface and loch
by marco corvi 04 Nov '10

therion accepts mere than one surface command, ie, many surfaces. the loch export writes all of them. loch reads all of them, and displays only the first ... but it is "ready" to display all of them. it would be nice to have all displayed ... possibly cropped to stay beneath one "special" surface, say the DEM. marco

XYZ co-ordinates and other things.
by Graham Mullan 02 Nov '10

02 Nov '10

Survex will generate a list of XYZ co-ordinates from a 3d file, so you "could" generate a 3d file from Therion and then run it back through Survex using the "convert for hand plotting option". For historical reasons, amongst others much of our data is in Survex format and is imported into Therion as 3d files. The Survex viewer, Aven, does have some capabilities that Lox does not, such as a simple method of measuring the distance between points and a direct read off of co-ordinates. Latest versions also have useful features such as "colour by date" and "colour by error" which I would like to see in Lox. One current problem is that 3d files generated with the most recent development snapshots of Survex, to version 1.1.15 are not recognised by Therion 5.3.4. Does this happen with 5.3.5? Graham

color map-bg transparent
by Bruce 02 Nov '10

Good to see the forum is back. I have a few pieces of correspondence made while it was down that I will forward for the sale of prosperity . Bruce _____ From: stacho.mudrak(a)gmail.com [mailto:stacho.mudrak@gmail.com] On Behalf Of Stacho Mudrak Sent: Tuesday, 12 October 2010 4:26 a.m. To: Bruce Mutton Subject: Re: color map-bg transparent Thanks Bruce for pointing out this problem. Obviously it is a bug, I will try to fix it when 5.3.6 will be released. Regards, S. On 9 October 2010 01:33, Bruce Mutton wrote: Thanks for that nice example Stacho. Yes, that is exactly what I was trying to do. When I ran your example on my system it performed perfectly as I think it did for you. In the attached the functionality SHOULD be identical; I have moved the map-bg from the export into it's own standalone layout. However as you can see the map is no longer transparent. I have rearranged my own larger project to move the map-bg into the export command and it works perfectly. So now I have a workaround, although it would be tidier to be able to put the map-bg into its own layout block I notice you were using 5.3.6, I guess you are just getting ready for the next one! Thanks Bruce _____ From: stacho.mudrak(a)gmail.com [mailto:stacho.mudrak@gmail.com] On Behalf Of Stacho Mudrak Sent: Friday, 8 October 2010 11:16 p.m. To: Bruce Subject: Re: color map-bg transparent This is strange. I have tried it right now and it seems to me that it works. In the attached example, when I set transparent map-bg in plan and then insert this image into xelev as pdf, this plan is over the elevation but all map-bg is transparent. Could you plaease send some example, where it does not work? Or do we understand each other not correctly? Regards, S. On 8 October 2010 11:32, Bruce wrote: He he Apologies for not waiting for the forum to come back. color map-bg transparent I see 5.3.5 accepts this now. Thanks If "../Output/MiddleEarthPlan.pdf" was produced using the above line in it's layout, then if the elevation layout included the following line; map-image 0 0 sw "../Output/MiddleEarthPlan.pdf" I would expect that the result would be the superposition of the two. Ie I would be able to see the elevation through the plan view. What I actually get is an elevation with an opaque plan overtop. (I cannot see the elevation). Am I misunderstanding the functionality, or perhaps I am doing something wrong to get a non-transparent background (like map-header-bg on) or perhaps another bug? Bruce

Magnetic deviation corrections
by Graham Mullan 01 Nov '10

01 Nov '10

Therion appears to correct for mag deviation automatically, based on the date that a survey was carried out. is it possible to turn this feature off within specific surveys? I have much legacy data where either the relevant correction has already been applied or where they have recorded a "compass correction" which includes both instrument error and mag deviation in one figure.
