Hi, how can I extend the HTML-cave-data-export with a actually export-date on Top, and a self-designed data-matrix (only text) for own attribute-Data-shortcuts on the bottom of export. I use the attr flag on station to set a own attribute. In the data set should only be a shortcut for a information. The information hold the matrix on the bottom. station C0 "CaveX" entrance attr Coordinate "" attr Tag "" attr Cadastre "" attr CadastreNumber "0000-000" attr Level "AB" attr Character "C" attr Survey "S(P)" attr Description "v/" attr Pix "EH" My HTML-export looks like: Title Length Depth Explored Altitude Cadastre CadastreNumber Coordinate Character Description Level Pix Survey Tag …datasets… It should be: 12-07-2011 [blanc] Title Length Depth Explored Altitude Cadastre Character Description Level CadastreNumber Pix Survey Tag …datasets… [blanc] MATRIX: <Cadastre> X: delivered <Character> C: Canyon W: Water K: Crevice … <Survey> D: draft P: plan …. <Description> X: available <Level> A: Entry Coordinate B: part explored C: full explored D: part surveyed E: full surveyed <Tag> X: fixed ..... Extended elevation

I am struggling with the extend: left right normal and reverse, they do not seem to be doing what I would expect or as described at http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php?id=tfc:321 therion 5.3.7 on debian wheezy These have been generated from the th file attached, which was an import from pocket topo. The file is as I needed it to work, for the below, remove all extend commands and then only add before the first line as shown. which is how PocketTopo export comes in. Adding it to the centreline -extend ##### seems to have the same effect as below. They are all viewed in the pdf, as I really have nothing else at the moment :( Also it appears that the extend command, moves all the splays in the same direction, which I guess is how survex intended it, but this is different from the PocketTopo, that treats slays differently and to me more sensibly (well in most situations). But this is not really that important as the splays generated by therion are not used for the PocketTopo image import. Noextend.pdf as it says has all the extend commands removed, so I would expect everything to go right, apart fro, 2.0 to 2.1 goes left case1.pdf So add extend right before the line extend right 2.0 - 260.00 11.60 2.610 So the legs go right then left, right, left right right...right, left, leftleft??? case2.pdf (file not included as it is the same as Noextend) extend normal 2.0 - 260.00 11.60 2.610 should be the same as right (unless I am missing a subtle difference) and no commands at all. It is the same as Noextend.pdf but different from case 1 case3.pdf extend left 2.0 - 260.00 11.60 2.610 opposite of right so at least consistent left, right, left, right, left, left ... left right, right case4.pdf extend reverse 2.0 - 260.00 11.60 2.610 consistent again: opposite of normal, but the first leg goes right instead of left and the they all go left So normal and reverse seem to work apart from the first leg, but left and right are doing something strange to the first few legs Using the commands in anywhere else in a linear part of the centreline mostly seems to work fine, and as expected, continuing down the consecutive numbering at a branch fine (but this could also be the order of the data in the file). However, left and right are less reliable than normal and reverse?? But not worked out a pattern yet. Other branches it is less clear for and this email is long enough Andrew

Bug with background sketches?
by Xavier Pennec 01 Jul '11

I am trying to include the sketch of an old survey as a background image on which I want to superimpose the new map. Here is a simplified example: the new survey is in SaleGosse4_test.th with maps in SG4_plan1.th2. For the underlying survey to keep a reasonable size, I used a morphed sketch of the same survey which is SG4_A1_plan2_carnet.th2 with background sketch Sale-Gosse_Carnet_2010_A1_plan2.jpg. When I compile the pdf for that map (not included here because it is above 6 Mb), the warped sketch image is included 9 times instead of only one. Apparently, it is considered as a sketch for all the scraps of the map while it should only be the sketch of one of them. There is not only the problem of file size explosion (over 50 Mb for the original survey sketch with 16 scraps above), but the image is also hiding the scraps that are supposed to be above it. I tried to play with many parameters in the layout (transparency, surface bottom or top) without much changes. It seems to me like a bug, or I missed something. Does anyone have an idea? FW: PocketTopo series: separate files

Yes. I think the problem is the use of the word "series" in the sentence I referred to. I thought you by series meant the same as the series in PocketTopo, which is described in the bullet points above that sentence. Could it be an idea to rewrite the sentence?

FW: PocketTopo series: separate files

-----Original Message----- From: Torstein Finnesand Sent: Wednesday, 29 June 2011 9:23 a.m. To: Bruce Subject: PocketTopo series: separate files Hi! Thank for writing this: http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php?id=paperless You mention that "Each series needs to be stored in it's own separate file. ie You use Menu.File.New when you need to start a new series." Would it be possible for you to explain the reason to do so? I ask, since I have stored many series in one top-file. But maybe I have missed something. Torstein Finnesand Norway Hi Torstein ... Do you mind if I copy this conversation to the forum? That way other users can benefit, or correct me if I have made an incorrect interpretation. As I mentioned on that page I have been writing it to try to consolidate my understanding of how it works, or at least find a good way of working with it. With regard to your question, I think PocketTopo started out using what seems to be rather restrictive TopoRobot conventions and limitations. Now I think with each version it is becoming more flexible (Beat, the author will be the authority on this!) In fact when I use PocketTopo I break many of the 'rules' about station numbering and loops and have not had any serious data loss or corruption. To be honest I have trouble thinking in 'series' as it is not a concept that is used in New Zealand surveying. The key points to note are; 1. Ensure all files that contain surveys that are connected to each other are in the same folder. PocketTopo then displays the centrelines of all these surveys in the background of the current survey and sketch. Do not keep any copies or other files in that folder. 2. Main reasons to start a new file are when a new days survey is started, a new survey is starting in a different location, or if the plan or elevation centrelines start overlapping (causing the sketching to become difficult). This way the centrelines of other surveys remain visible and only the sketches of the currently open file can be seen (reduces confusion). Hope this answers your question. Any don't forget to get back to me about the forum posting. Regards Bruce

I have been sitting on this one for some time, and today I did some tests. The problem was introduced somewhere between 5.2.10 and 5.3 and it can easily be inferred where it is happening in the process by comparing the pdftex log part of the log files below. I can provide the log files or more examples. I have versions 5.3.11 to .14 that I could experiment with if it would help. metapost: Therion version and current date
by Bruce 26 Jun '11

26 Jun '11

While I've having fun with metapost. Is it possible to expose the version number of therion to metapost? And the current system date and time? I'll add anything I make to the wiki. Promise. Bruce By surveying and mapping caves we steal from our future selves.

plan cross-section
by marco corvi 24 Jun '11

24 Jun '11

seems that cross-section scrap must have a projection `none', which means that therion cannot use stations to scale it "properly". i had to draw a vertical cave, a sequence of pits, one on top of the next. instead of drawing a plan, with plenty of maps shifted to the side, i preferred to draw plan cross-sections nearby the shafts as cross-sections (with a section line marking their position on the pit). i would also like to have one north symbol on the map, to mark the orientation of all the plan cross-sections. i did it fiddling with the sources, but a "more stable" solution is appreciated. thanks for the help, marco

metapost color definition
by Bruce 23 Jun '11

23 Jun '11

Anyone have any idea why the following metapost included in a layout causes the error below? It is almost identical to code extracted from data.mp, yet it upsets therion (I have added the 237 so you can see where the error occurs). code metapost %define colours for custom water point & area background 237 color colour_water; colour_water :=(226/255,244/255,253/255); %light blue color colour_sump; colour_sump := (22/255,22/255,95/255); %dark blue endcode D:\Program Files\Therion\therion.exe: error -- ../../StdFiles/LayoutStandards.thc [237] -- ../../StdFiles/LayoutStandards.thc [237] -- not enough option arguments -- color -- must be 2 Regards Bruce

xtherion -close on
by marco corvi 23 Jun '11

23 Jun '11

the line option "-close on" specifis that a line is closed. when exporting maps, therion properly closes a line with this option. when xtherion loads the file, the line is "open" and the checkbox "close" is unchecked. if i check it, xtherion add a point to the line with the same coords as the initial point. marco
