joining lines - namespaces of scraps?
by Wolfgang Zillig 19 Mar '13

19 Mar '13

Hello list, when joining connecting lines connecting lines between different scraps, I realized, that their IDs must be individual, because the IDs can not be referenced by their scrap ID. I have for example line1 in scrap1 and line2 in scrap2. To join these lines I write: join line1:end line2:0 What is the best way not to use line IDs more than once in a cave project? I would prefer referencing to the scrap ID like: join scrap1.line1:end scrap2.line2:0 But this returns an error :( Do I have to add the scrap ID manually to the line ID? Any other ways to handle this? Best regards Wolfgang

New release of Cave Converter
by Footleg 18 Mar '13

18 Mar '13

A new version of my Cave Converter tool is now available. It converts between various cave survey file formats. Primarily to enable users of DistoX devices to get their existing data into PocketTopo, and their new survey data out of PocketTopo and into Survex format. Help and download link on the home page. Source code available under GNU GPLv3 license. http://wscc.darkgem.com/caveconverter/ A summary of the changes in this release: - Added support for nested series in the data model. Survex reader and writer no longer flatten the survey series hierarchy when series are inside other series. - Fixed issue where Survex output files put data inside duplicated begin/end blocks. - Improved series naming in PocketTopo converted data. Series now have the series number as their name rather than the full cave name and series number, so the name is not duplicated in the outer series name and inner series names. The outer series name is now the full name from the input file (previously any numbers on the end of the name were removed). - PocketTopo converted data links to series not included in the PocketTopo file now use the correct series number and station number for the linked external series instead of dummy data. - Toporobot format generation is much faster, and handles more complex cave surveys which could crash the converter in previous versions. - Fixed crash in Toporobot writer when converting directly from PocketTopo format. Bug reports and requests to support other formats always welcomed. Enjoy! Footleg

The context of sd
by Andrew Atkinson 16 Mar '13

16 Mar '13

Hello It would appear that sd works within the centreline/endcentreline part but not as part of a survey, however would it not be better if this worked within the survey context. Eg I have a few sump surveys with some dry surveys, all the sumps are grouped into a single higher level survey for convenience survey sumps <===== It would be good to put the sd in here, rather than having to specify it in <===== every file, which is tedious when I decide to change it include sump1.th include sump1a.th include sump2.th .... include sumpn.th equate # # etc endsurvey This would be also useful when areas of the cave have been surveyed to a lower grade. just a thought Andrew

Auriga exports data for Therion now
by Martin Sluka 28 Feb '13

28 Feb '13

This third 2012 release implements the direct export to the memory card of survey shots and station coordinates in a text file (CSV with tabs) or various cave survey formats (Compass, GH Topo/Toporobot, Therion, Visual Topo and Walls) and the direct import or caves in Compass, GH Topo/Toporobot and Visual Topo formats, features asked for by several users who would like a text file of their raw data or who cannot run the Auriga conduit (Windows problems, no PDA, run under Android). Sketch-wise, traced lines can now have types (ex. dashes) and fills (ex. hatches), even though these attributes are not yet rendered in SVG and DXF. This version 2.05 migrates cave PDBs to format 61 and network PDBs to format 8. It is advised to backup survey data before installing this new version. A new conduit (version 0.37) matches this migration and is released simultaneously. Thanks for reporting any bug, no matter how minor; don't put the blame on yourself if a software error occurs. Ideas and comments are welcome too! New features * migration of cave PDBs to format 61 and network PDBs to format 8 to support centimetric altitudes and passage width direction for each individual survey shot * a new Export item in Cave menu allows exporting survey shots and station coordinates as a tab-delimited CSV (text) file or in Compass, Survex, Therion, GH Topo/Toporobot, VisualTopo and Walls formats * a new Import item in the Cave menu of the Main form allows importing cave files in Compass, GH Topo/Toporobot and VisualTopo formats * Export element of Cave menu renamed "Save As" to avoid confusion with Export element in Cave and Map menus * sketch lines and curves now support patterns and fills (although DXF and SVG exports don't render them yet) * even with GH Topo/Toporobot as a software target for the cave, series beginnings can now hold a geographic position * map view appended to survey shot layer name in DXF * Survey Shot form now allows toggling the direction of passage widths by holding down the stylus on one of the station selector arrows for LRUDs * survey stations and shots dated in KML export to allow viewing cave progress in Google Earth (if the PDA time was properly set) * logs that could be exported to Memo (statistics, loop itinerary, loop analysis and survey shot errors) can now be saved as text files on the memory card * spaces replaced by underscores (_) in name of all exported files * when editing a note or a file name with the Auriga Keypad, holding down a letter button inserts the opposite case, or pops up a list of accented versions of that letter * pasting a geographic position in Survey Shot fields (using Edit/Paste menu item) now includes altitude * better handling of altitude received from connected GPS * Keypad icon added in Measures form on devices with virtual Graffiti area when Palm OS 1-2-3 icon is not visible * the clipping mask in Map now accepts an absolute XYZ position for its center * azimuth and slope fields in Survey Shot form displayed with at least one decimal to ease detection of input errors * dragging the stylus from Graffiti area to middle of screen now toggles between Top and Developed profile views in Sketching tool * wrong input highlighted in Auriga Keypad (along with beep) * with caves where the target software is GH Topo or Toporobot, an alert is displayed when creating a new survey shot produces non sequential stations (incompatible with Toporobot) Bug fixes * editing a hi-res sketch curve on a low-res map could shift the curve or display garbage on screen * sketched curves could end up very jaggy if traced while the coordinates of the cave origin were very large numbers (like UTM coordinates) * the Auriga Keypad could not be opened from the Measures form (again) * the column before last in the List form could not be resized if the list was scrolled to the right * the SVG export would display a North arrow for profile views * using dates with "AM/PM" could cause odd crashes in List form * inputting the magnetic declination in d°m's" or d°m.m' format in Session form did not work well * the Clipping Mask form could crash when displaying a geographic position for the center point * better handling of d°m's" characters by the Auriga Keypad * a slope of -0.01 produced an incomplete survey shot * in case of data corruption in splay measures, erroneous types are shown as ? * better alert when survey shot data is about to be overwritten by new data received from the DistoX * DistoX acquisition did not automatically restart after hitting the New button in Survey Shot form while data remained unsaved * on some devices, exporting the Map to the memory card could fail if the target file already existed * better handling of Topofil input in Survey Shot form * some station separators such as _ could not be input into fields * survey shots count in sessions could be off by 1 * various minor interface fixes http://www.speleo.qc.ca/Auriga Luc Le Blanc ********************** Hola, Esta tercera versión del 2012 añade la exportación directa en la tarjeta de memoria de las visuales y las coordenadas de las estaciones en un fichero texto (CSV tabulado) o en varios formatos topo (Compass, GH Topo/Toporobot, Therion, Visual Topo y Walls) y la importación directa de cavidades en formatos Compass, GH Topo/Toporobot y Visual Topo, posibilidades pedidas por varios usuarios que quieren tener una copia texto de sus datos brutos o que no pueden ejecutar el conducto de Auriga (problemas con Windows, sin PDA, ejecución bajo Android). Metapost point blocks problems
by Jackson 15 Feb '13

15 Feb '13

Hi all, i have made a new definition for point blocks with metapost. It only does what I want when the point is nearby the center of the scrap/drawing. The further the point is away from the center of the scrap the more random the stones are set. Whats wrong with the definition of my "point blocks" ? -------------------------------- def p_blocks_FUND (expr pos, theta,sc,al)= U:=(.45u,.35u); T:=identity aligned al rotated theta scaled sc shifted pos; pickup PenC; picture pic, henge; path stone, edge; stone := ((-0.6u,-0.5u)--(-0.3u,-0.7u)--(0.3u,-0.3u)--(0.5u,0.5u)--(0u,0.7u)--(-0.2u,0.5u)--(-0.5u,0.3u)--cycle); edge := ((-0.5u,-0.4u)--(-0.3u,-0.55u)--(0.2u,-0.2u)--(0.3u,0.4u)); pic := image( thfill stone withcolor 0.90; thdraw stone; pickup PenD; thdraw edge; ); henge := image( for i=0 step 1 until 2 : thdraw pic rotated (uniformdeviate(360)) scaled ((0.05u) randomized 0.1u) slanted 0.01u shifted ((0.01u,0.01u) randomized 0.5u); endfor; ); thdraw henge; enddef; -------------------------------- Best regards Christian (jackson)
