Fwd: Fedora 42 xtherion will not start

Resending to the group, since this might be of general interest. -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Re: [Therion] Fedora 42 xtherion will not start Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2025 14:36:16 -0500 From: Bill Gee <bgee(a)campercaver.net> To: Stacho Mudrak <lists(a)group-s.sk> Hi Stacho - No luck. I included below a directory listing of the bwidget package directory, if that helps. There are multiple tcl directories on the system. tcl8.6 is the directory used by the Fedora 42 package. It is the only one of the tcl directories that has anything regarding bwidget. Unfortunately, I no longer have a Fedora 41 system to compare. I do have a system running X instead of Wayland. That system also has Therion 6.3.3. It shows the same results, which is what I expected. ===================== bgee@main2:~$ wish % package require BWidget can't find package BWidget % package require bwidget can't find package bwidget % bgee@main2:~$ ll -d /usr/share/tcl* drwxr-xr-x. 5 root root 4096 Feb 1 18:00 /usr/share/tcl8 drwxr-xr-x. 7 root root 4096 Apr 19 14:57 /usr/share/tcl8.6 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 Apr 19 14:58 /usr/share/tcl9 drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096 Apr 19 14:58 /usr/share/tcl9.0 bgee@main2:~$ dir /usr/share/tcl8.6/bwidget1.9.7/ arrow.tcl dialog.tcl images listbox.tcl panelframe.tcl scrollview.tcl tree.tcl bitmap.tcl dragsite.tcl init.tcl mainframe.tcl passwddlg.tcl scrollw.tcl utils.tcl buttonbox.tcl dropsite.tcl labelentry.tcl messagedlg.tcl pkgIndex.tcl separator.tcl widget.tcl button.tcl dynhelp.tcl labelframe.tcl notebook.tcl progressbar.tcl spinbox.tcl wizard.tcl color.tcl entry.tcl label.tcl pagesmgr.tcl progressdlg.tcl statusbar.tcl xpm2image.tcl combobox.tcl font.tcl lang panedw.tcl scrollframe.tcl titleframe.tcl ===================== Update! I did a bit more poking around and discovered I have two different versions of tcl installed. Running tclsh9 fails. =============== Bill Gee On 4/21/25 13:50, Stacho Mudrak wrote: > If you just run wish and try to import the bwidget package, does it work? > > On my system: > > user@localhost:~$ wish > % package require BWidget > 1.9.14 > > S. > > On Mon, 21 Apr 2025 at 19:25, Bill Gee <bgee(a)campercaver.net > <mailto:bgee@campercaver.net>> wrote: > > I upgraded to Fedora 42 over the weekend. Fedora 42 xtherion will not start
by Bill Gee 21 Apr '25

21 Apr '25

I upgraded to Fedora 42 over the weekend. Trying to start xtherion gives a message about BWidget missing. However, it is installed. ===================== bgee@main2:/public/document/CaveSurveys/CaveSpringCave$ therion --version therion 6.3.4+dev (compiled on 2025-04-09) - using Proj 9.6.0, compiled against 9.4.1 bgee@main2:/public/document/CaveSurveys/CaveSpringCave$ xtherion Error in startup script: can't find package BWidget while executing "package require BWidget" (file "/usr/local/bin/xtherion" line 12925) bgee@main2:/public/document/CaveSurveys/CaveSpringCave$ su - Password: root@main2:~# dnf search bwidget Updating and loading repositories: Repositories loaded. station mark symbols shown incorrectly in cross sections
by Bruce Mutton 21 Apr '25

21 Apr '25

Hello I'm just noticing that stations with mark natural and mark fixed are no longer plotting correctly in cross sections (ie scraps with projection none). In place of the (correct) circle or triangle, they are plotting as a + which is the symbol allocated for mark temporary. Unfortunately I hardly ever bother with cross sections, so I cannot say when this changed, except that I'm fairly sure they used to plot correctly. An example of inconsistently plotting stations below. Bruce

smooth option details
by Rodrigo Severo 13 Apr '25

13 Apr '25

Hi, I am trying to better uderstand the line segment smooth option. Therion Book currently states that: "* smooth <on/off/auto> -> whether the line is smooth at the given point. Auto is default." From some tests I believe that the resulting behaviour could be explained in details as: "* smooth <on/off/auto> -> whether the line is smooth at the given point. Auto is default. This setting only has any effect if both segments that passes through the point affected by the smooth setting are Bezier Curves (the one arriving at it and the one leaving it). On means that the line connection at this point will be smoothed, both by therion and by xTherion. Off means that smoothness at the point is not guaranteded. Auto means that, if both segments that passes through the point are Bezier Curves, Therion will automatically detected if they are smooth and, if they are detected as smooth, Therion will keep them smooth in it's transformations. xTherion always creates Bezier Curves as smooth, even if the previous segment was a straight one." Is this detailed explanation correct? Is there any correction or inclusion that would be appropriate? Regards, Rodrigo

SQL problem
by Pavel Herich 04 Apr '25

04 Apr '25

Hi all, recently, when I try to import an sql Therion export in DB browser, an error message apears (in attachment): Error importing data: Error in statement #67789: no such column: nan. Aborting execution. Any idea what might be the problem? Especially how to find it in source Therion data... Thank you Pavel

Generating list of drawers
by Benedikt Hallinger 08 Mar '25

08 Mar '25

Hi, before I dig into SQL myself, does by chance somebody already made a script or SQL to generate a list showing: "who has drawn how much length of the surveys". Something along: Person A: 250m Person B: 199m Person C: 80m ... Thank you :)

Need help installing Therion on windows arm64
by Philip Schuchardt 25 Feb '25

25 Feb '25

I have a mac. I have therion install on my mac, but I want to try out *csurvey. *csurvey only runs on Windows, which I've installed in a Windows 11 VM (arm64), but when I go to install therion I get this error: [image: Screenshot 2025-02-25 at 1.24.51 PM.png] Most x64 software will run just fine on arm windows, it just goes through an emulation layer. I think this is just a check in the installer. Do you all have any ideas? Or should I try to build Therion from source on windows? It would be nice if the windows binary was sign so you don't get this message (I know it spendy and annoying to get EV certification): [image: Screenshot 2025-02-25 at 1.24.23 PM.png] Thanks! Phi|ip

Therion & QGIS Styles
by Xavier Robert 21 Feb '25

21 Feb '25

Dear all, Some months ago, I told you that Alex Pont and me were working on setting GIS solution using shapefiles exported from Therion. Since some days, we have uploaded on GitHub the styles we are applying in QGIS for the shapefiles that we export from Therion. You will find them here : https://github.com/Alex38Lyon/QGis_Therion. You should install them in QGIS with the plugin : QGIS Ressources Sharing. Feel free to use it ! Doing that, we have found that some informations given in the th2 are missing in the shapefiles produced by Therion. An issue has been open there : https://github.com/therion/therion/issues/635 Cheers, Xavier
