February 2005 - Therion

preliminary text
by Roman Muñoz 28 Feb '05

Hi all, I wrote a preliminary text about therion on "english" It is not finished, but I would get some feedback. So, if you have a little bit of spare time, you could visit http://www.infonegocio.com/tatel/therion_for_cavers.txt and drop a word about it on the list. Gramatical corrections will be welcome ;-) I know, this will be on wiki... when finished. Cheers, Roman

May be adding translation line right above the list box would be better (at least you will not need to focus your eyes on the oposite corner of the screen). Also translation of list-box items should be possible. The only problem is - that options line can not be translated this way - therefore there will be still mixed english with some local language. May be another solution that is already in the TODO list wuld help (Wookey asked for it). Add context menu when right clicked on point/station. Via this menu - a type and most common options (like alignment, text, value) could be selected. This could be then translated. > b) I can't see types in xtext* file. Somewhat like "To activate user interface, open existing > file or create new one" Should be no problem. I'll put it into TODO list. > d) Same way, I think new warning about need to save recently > created th2 file should mention the "th2" thing explicitly. > > e) I observed that you have modified some of existing strings same way I > did, but not all of modified spanish strings have their english > equivalent. The best way how to do it is to add en translation - not to modify source files. So just export empty xtexts_en.txt file and you can fill all strings you want. > f) I'm planning to do my writing in "english" too, and put both versions > on wiki after 0.3.7 release Thanks, S.

next dumb question

On Tue, 22 Feb 2005 14:00:08 +0100 Stacho Mudrak <s.m(a)speleo.sk> wrote: >> So in the first window - it asks you for the filename of th2 file (not >> XVI file). Aah. Understood. I readed about saving th2 files first in Wookey's writing, but missed this window was asking me for it. I was not worried about relative paths. >> As I wrote before - 100 dpi is assumed. If you have 1:1000 scan at 200 >> dpi, you have to use 1:1000/(200dpi/100dpi) = 1:500 scale in your xvi >> export command. A very simple mathematics :) Yeah, something like this should have happen. Most probably image was being not visualized at 100 % when I dumped the screen. Dumped .pnm files are at 100x97 resolution. New images are actually smaller than xvi one, but I think this is not therion-related ;-) Dragging background images: I like it a lot. Thanks. Next dumb question: what about extended elevation? To use "extend" option in centerline is enough? Do I need have some scrap with projection "extended"? Could LRUD data be used in map editor? Best regards, Roman

Recent changes

23 Feb '05

There are two important changes in latest snapshot: * import command can exist outside survey - endsurvey pair. Stations and shots outside survey context will not be imported. * in layout - code tex-map/atlas, there are supported international characters. So currently following stuff will work as expected code tex-map \cavename={Jaskyňa mŕtvych netopierov} endcode Regards, S.

wiki examples
by Roman Muñoz 22 Feb '05

22 Feb '05

Hi, When I enter wiki's examples page, my firefox begin to load something HUGE. I can hear disk cache working as an exploited slave. It takes some minutes to load (I'm on 512 Kb *DSL); after this, each time I scroll the page, cache starts working again. Thus it is, in practice, allmost unusable. I guess this is a matter of big pictures? Regards, Roman

New developement snapshot.
by Stacho Mudrak 22 Feb '05

22 Feb '05

So current version of therion should support centerline with LRUD in map editor. As usually - it is implemented easiest way for programmer :) with minimal changes in current interface. So how it works: 1. Therion supports new map format export - xvi (xtherion vector image). 2. XTherion can load xvi images into backgroud, as any other bitmap image. There are some special bindings for vector images - e.g. if you insert point on station, type and station name are automatically set. When exporting xvi images - they are exported in 100dpi in layout-scale. Grid spacing is also taken from layout X grid-size. Waiting for feedback and comments :) S.

windows binary translated
by Roman Muñoz 21 Feb '05

21 Feb '05

Hi all, I managed to get windows binary translated. Simply rename a translated /therion/xtherion/xtherion file as xtherion.tcl and use it overwrite installed windows binary's one. Et voila! :) BTW, .iss scripts don't worked for me: First I needed to realize that there are more .iss files than common.iss Then I found therion.iss in therion's source (from tar.gz). Then I needed edit it to get no complain about application number, and wish.exe being now wish84.exe. Then I had to install windows binary and update to get therion.exe and thbook.pdf from it, and xtherion tcl from my own translated and renamed one. So I compiled it but after install it looks for wish.exe: If you point him to wish84, he asks for tcl84.dll... then I tried the wild way. I'll do a final test of translation prior to putting it all on wiki. Regards, Roman
