Re: [Therion] Linux and DistoX (Wookey)
by Marco Corvi 30 Jun '17

So, thanks to me giving a competent person (who also doesn't own any Windows or Android devices) a couple of distoX's that needed ... At the moment this only works with python3 and distoX1, But Stuart plans to use the topodroid codebase to work out the differences for the X2 protocol (unless anyone has a doc for this already, or Marco can tell him). wookey, i may be not precise because i do not have the docs at hand. the distox2 protocol is backward compatible. therefore, getting the calib raw data from the distox2 is the same as in distox1, namely two data packets, one for G, one for M. the commands to toggle calib mode on and off are the same, too. the computation of the calib coeff has changed a bit with firmware 2.2 (or 2.3, don't remember well) beat added three non-linear coeffs, and these are written after the other 24. there is a catch: in the distox1 those mem are set at 0xff (ie -1), so these three coeff are written with 0 getting to 0xff. the non-linear calib should not be used for older firmwares. i have not changed the linux code, and i do not think to have the time to do that. i also understand you may not want to use android, but you can use the android code and turn it in C++ the computational methods are very much C like, and the helper classes are just basic linalgebra. if you or stuart have any question, send me email marco

Trouble scrap: metapost exit code 35584
by Rodrigo Severo 25 Jun '17

25 Jun '17

Hi, I'm having trouble compiling this scrap created with Topodroid. It results in a "therion: error -- metapost exit code -- 35584". I tried some debug suggestions available at https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/tbe:wiki5 but couldn't find the culprit. Any ideas on what might be wrong? XtTherion canvas zoom with the mouse wheel bug
by Bruce Mutton 21 Jun '17

21 Jun '17

Hello I have an old paper survey, so am doing some old school map drawing over a scanned background sketch. My first for a few years. I have noticed that XTherion seems to not be able to display the background sketch once you have used the mouse wheel to zoom. The sketch just vanishes, even though everything looks OK. Using the magic of version control I can see that the only significant change that XTherion makes to the dataset is that the ##XTHERION## variable is no longer one of the present values. ie 100 has changed to 62 in response to the mouse wheel zoom. There are no problems if I use xvi file sketches as generated from PocketTopo, so it is just a bitmap thing I suppose. If I manually change the value above back to 100, the image displays just fine. The + - zoom button on the interface work just fine as well. I am using 5.4.1 - 88c8a06 Mouse wheel zoom is a nice feature, so it would be worth finding a fix for this. Bruce

align is back to front
by Bruce Mutton 20 Jun '17

20 Jun '17

Has anyone noticed that -align seems to be aligning symbols the wrong way? I have not comprehensively checked, but I think labels are OK. But water-flow is aligning opposite to what it should. In the image below, the water-flow symbol is aligned bottom-right according to the context menu and the options text. But you can see that the pdf symbol is aligned top-left. Am using 5.4.1 + 88c8a06 It might have been this way for a while.

station-names for map definitions
by Bruce Mutton 19 Jun '17

19 Jun '17

Good evening station-names <prefix> <suffix> is a nice little statement that I use all the time for scraps, and occasionally for centrelines. Checking in the Therion Book just now, it seems that that is all station-names works for, which I guess is kind of logical, as those are the only entities that contain stations. I was just looking at my map definitions, which contain lots of; <scrap or map name>@CaveName Statements. And thought that it would be nice to have something like station-names to avoid having to repeat the @CaveName suffix ad nauseam. I tried using station-names in my map definition, but get the admonishment "station-names specification not valid for map" Thoughts? Easy to implement? Bruce

Upgrade to Therion 5.4.0 or 5.4.1 on Macos X ?
by Xavier Robert 14 Jun '17

14 Jun '17

Hi all, I am running Macos 10.10 , and I have already therion 5.3.16 installed via homebrew, as published in the wiki. I am trying to updgrade Therion to the last version. However, I am facing some problems : if I do a simple brew update, brew upgrade, brew tap homebrew/science, brew upgrade therion, I got the error : Error: homebrew/science/therion 5.3.16.reinstall already installed. Indeed, a brew edit therion says that the dowload url is the 5.3.16. This formula is not updated. I tried to update it and made some tests on my computer (see further down). If I try the solution proposed by Ladislav (2017/04/06 email : brew upgrade https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ladislavb/homebrew-science/ladislavb-patc… <https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ladislavb/homebrew-science/ladislavb-patc…>), I get the error : curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404 Not Found. After a search on the web, I found that the url changed to https://github.com/ladislavb/homebrew-science/blob/master/therion.rb. If I do a brew upgrade with that url, I got this error : brew install https://github.com/ladislavb/homebrew-science/blob/master/therion.rb ######################################################################## 100,0% Error: therion: /Users/robertxaold/Library/Caches/Homebrew/Formula/therion.rb:7: syntax error, unexpected '<' <!DOCTYPE html> ^ /Users/robertxaold/Library/Caches/Homebrew/Formula/therion.rb:8: syntax error, unexpected '<' <html lang="en"> ^ /Users/robertxaold/Library/Caches/Homebrew/Formula/therion.rb:9: syntax error, unexpected '<' <head> ^ /Users/robertxaold/Library/Caches/Homebrew/Formula/therion.rb:14: syntax error, unexpected '<' <link crossorigin="anonymous" ... ^ /Users/robertxaold/Library/Caches/Homebrew/Formula/therion.rb:14: syntax error, unexpected tIDENTIFIER, expecting end-of-input ...nk crossorigin="anonymous" href="https://assets-cdn.github.c... ... ^ I downloaded the therion.rb from https://github.com/ladislavb/homebrew-science/blob/master/therion.rb. If I do a brew upgrade with the therion.rb downloaded, I get the error : Error: inreplace failed Makefile: expected replacement of "all: outdirs $(OUTDIR)/therion doc " with "all: outdirs $(OUTDIR)/therion " I have the same error with the url https://github.com/therion/therion/archive/v5.4.1.tar.gz. Indeed, in 5.4.x, the line in the Makefile is : all: version outdirs $(OUTDIR)/therion doc I thus changed the corresponding line in therion.rb (L21) by inreplace "Makefile", "all: version outdirs $(OUTDIR)/therion doc ", "all: outdirs $(OUTDIR)/therion ". When I run brew upgrade —verbose therion.rb, I then got this error (after a while and a bunch of lines OK) : /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/usr/bin/make -C ./thlang perl process.pl /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/usr/bin/make -C ./thchencdata perl generate.pl perl thsymbolsetlist.pl tclsh thcsdata.tcl make: *** No rule to make target `thchencdata.cxx', needed by `thchenc.o'. I checked in the therion-5.4.x folder, and the file thchencdata.cxx does not exists. It exists in the therion-5.1.16. I am not a C/C++/Tex specialist. I am stuck there. Is it a bug ? Does this file exists elsewhere on the Macos system ? Do I need to add a : inreplace "Makefile ", " thchencdata.cxx ", " "? Cheers, Xavier
