warning -- equate used to define new station
by Vasily Vl. Suhachev 03 Aug '17

Hello Is there a way to suppress a warning about new station? I'm trying to simplify the stations binding such way: 1.th: equate Fixed@cave Fixed(a)some.path.at.cave 2.th: equate Fixed@cave Fixed(a)other.path.at.cave -- WBR, Vasily

It looks one may define a survey trip with only GPS coordinates of one or several points. Which may have its sense. m.s. Bug of symbol for point passage-height in legend?
by Torsten Schnitter 01 Aug '17

01 Aug '17

Hi I observed a strange behavior of "point passage-height" or better let's say of it's symbol size in legend. Using scale and base-scale in layout with different numbers the size of the symbol is changing in size and shouldn't. Other symbols like e.g. water flow don't behave like this. They don't change their size in legend when changing base-scale. For example: scale 1 500 base-scale 1 1500 The size of the symbol in legend is way to big and therefore doesn't fit into it's box anymore. Is there any solution for this problem? Thanks, Torsten

Very nice web viewing tool for Therion. Top marks to aardgoose! We should put this on the Wiki. Cheers, Henry Dell Corporation Limited is registered in England and Wales. Missing fonts when compiling a map
by Bill Gee 25 Jul '17

25 Jul '17

Hello everyone - A week ago I upgraded to Fedora 26. Today is the first chance I have had to run Therion. When compiling a map, it produces two lines about missing fonts. See the messages below. The compile otherwise runs to completion and the map renders correctly in Okular. I have Googled on these font names, but nothing turns up. Where should I look to see if they are installed? Where do they come from? Should I be concerned about it?? Thanks! -- Bill Gee BOINC Statistics therion 5.4.1 (2017-04-18) initialization file: /etc/therion.ini reading ... done checking optional fonts csr10 csti10 csbx10 csss10 csssi10 ... How to frame a box?
by Torsten Schnitter 19 Jul '17

19 Jul '17

Hi I'm wondering if it's possible to draw a frame around e.g. a legendbox or any other box? (I'm not talking about the frame around all the map which you can get with e.g. \framethickness=1mm) In layout I'm using code like this: \def\maplayout{ ... \legendbox{0}{0}{NE}{\legendsymbols} \legendbox{0}{0}{NE}{\the\legendcontent} ... } Is it possible in any way to draw a frame around such a box? Or does anyone have any code to get a framed box on the map? Thanks for your help. cheers, Torsten

scrap flip horizontal - some symbols are wrong
by Bruce Mutton 19 Jul '17

19 Jul '17

I'm doing some drawing of extended elevations, and have noticed that some symbols do not respond appropriately when the scrap they are in is flipped (horizontally). Line arrow is one of them - the arrow head swaps ends in the flipped scrap - it should not. Using reverse is a workaround if the scrap is always shown flipped, but if it is flipped in some maps and not others (say, using revise) then this behaviour becomes a problem. I recall there are other anomalies that I discovered some years ago, but not sure if I posted or not. See the embedded image. One is text strings, <left> remains <left> when it is flipped, and perhaps is should instead become <right>? Another was joining of lines, which just behaved badly. There are probably other symbols, and I imagine there might be similar issues with flip vertical. However most of the time flip horizontal is just fine. Bruce

Person data type with more than two names
by Bruce Mutton 15 Jul '17

15 Jul '17

Some of our cave surveyors have more than two word names, and previously I have had mixed success getting their names reported correctly by Therion. Some worked, some did not. Therion Book says of this data type: person ▷ a person’s first name and surname separated by whitespace characters. Use ‘/’ to separate first name and surname if there are more names. So although this seems a little ambiguous to me, it works for three word names, but not always for four. Many combinations result in an error -- invalid name format -- "Bruce van/der/Mutton" So by trial and error… These are OK: -author 2017 "Bruce Mutton" -author 2017 "Bruce/Mutton" -author 2017 "Bruce van/Mutton" -author 2017 "Bruce van/der Mutton" But these are not: -author 2017 "Bruce/van/Mutton" -author 2017 "Bruce van/der/Mutton" -author 2017 "Bruce/van/der/Mutton" Rather than testing exhaustively, I’m wondering if anyone can shed light on this. Is the condition as simple as ‘only one of the spaces between the names should have a /’? I have only checked what Therion reports in pdf outputs, and not for example html or sql outputs. I have not yet checked 5 or six word names. Bruce
