Question about "grid" command
by Benedikt Hallinger 24 Feb '21

24 Feb '21

Good morning, while debugging https://github.com/hbeni/therionsurface2survex/issues/1 i stumbled upon a format question i did not give tought until yesterday. With the "grid" command you specify coordinate origin and size of a surface grid: grid <origin x> <origin y> <x spacing> <y spacing> <x count> <y count> Until now i assumed that: a) these data has to be all positive. But i'm not sure... origin may surely get negative (like in wgs89 and for example western and southern of the 0-meridian/equator) And also stepsize - might it get negative too (esp. with flipped grids maybe)? b) the spacing might only be integer numbers, not floats Is this true? I just got an example with not-round stepsize.

3D model height
by Balambér Hakapesz 23 Feb '21

23 Feb '21

Hi! When generating 3D models, Proj4 transforms between different coordinate systems. This also transforms the ellipsoidal altitude, but the data always refer to altitude above sea level and should not be changed. The finished models do not fit the topography, you have to cheat with the height to be good. 3d model - project selection not working
by עמרי גסטר 16 Feb '21

16 Feb '21

Hi all, I noticed that in the 3d model there is an option to select a specific project, but it doesn't work. There is no option to select it. Am I missing something? Is it a bug? [image: image.png] Omri

texts_rs and a remark about karren vs anastomosis
by ivana miskovic 09 Feb '21

09 Feb '21

Hello, Here I put the translation file of map outputs in Serbian language. It would be great if texts_rs.txt were compiled in next Therion release. Also, unrelated to the translation itself, during translation I found some confusion in point symbols for karren and for anastomosis. It seems like they are inverted. Karren are generally sharp limestone formations on the floor, and anastomosis are usually remain like rounded rock formations in the cave ceiling. Unfortunately, in the UIS official symbol list, karren and anastomoses were put on the same picture. Thanx and c u in next surveyes, Ivana

Removing the lines between survey stations created for surface features
by David Eason 07 Feb '21

07 Feb '21

Dear therion mailing list, Does anyone know how to remove the lines that appear between survey stations used for surveying around surface features? I ran survey legs around dolines and pools, leading to a main entrance where the actual cave starts. I used the "flags surface" command to remove the surface stations from the main cave station sequence and added them to their own "surface features" scrap in the drawing, but when the drawing gets compiled, these surface stations are all joined by densely dotted lines, as opposed to the short survey lines between cave survey stations indicating the direction of the legs. Apart from this, the surface feature drawing all works pretty well, using the line type "border" with "clip" set to "off". I'd like the temporary survey station symbols to remain, so they appear as the stations within the cave. Best, David E

Splays appearing when not selected
by Rhys Tyers 06 Feb '21

06 Feb '21

Hello, I have noticed something that I am not sure if it's a bug or not. I am trying to export a selected bit of a survey as a loch file: source "data/system_migovec.th" select vrtnarija_vilinska@system_migovec export model -o outputs/vrtnarija.lox This seems to correctly export the centerline only for "vrtnarija_vilinska" but if I turn on the walls in loch then other bits of the survey are shown. Centerline correct: [image: image.png] With walls there are other bits of passage shown: [image: image.png] These seem to correspond to bits of passage that have splays and LRUD data so it seems like those aren't correctly filtered out using the "select". Using: therion 5.5.6 (2020-12-27) - using Proj 6.3.1, compiled against 6.3.1 Thanks, Rhys

Map altitude NaN as -89999
by Bruce Mutton 05 Feb '21

05 Feb '21

These look much better now Stacho. When there are no drawings, just maps that contain survey centrelines, the log is rather simplistic. ############### export maps & scraps selection ################# S -.-- @ () ########## end of export maps & scraps selection ############### I guess that is OK, but it would be nice to record centreline maps if possible. For a typical plan map however it looks like… ############### export maps & scraps selection ################# M 771.64 DwarfsDoorPlanMap@ (Dwarf's Door Cave) M 764.47 DwarfsD-K3-AbovePlan@DwarfsDoor (Dwarfs Door D-K3 plan) S 767.89 DwarfsD-K3-AbovePlan-s3@DwarfsDoor () S 764.14 DwarfsD-K3-AbovePlan-s2@DwarfsDoor () S 761.38 DwarfsD-K3-AbovePlan-s1@DwarfsDoor () M 756.36 DE-DwarfEntPlan@DwarfsDoor (Dwarfs Door DE-Entrance plan) S 758.95 DE-DwarfEntPlan-s3@DwarfsDoor () S 756.09 DE-DwarfEntPlan-s2@DwarfsDoor () S 754.03 DE-DwarfEntPlan-s1@DwarfsDoor () … S 655.11 DwarfsD-K4-DryPlan-s3@DwarfsDoor () S 649.25 DwarfsD-K4-DryPlan-s1@DwarfsDoor () S 1429.78 @ () ########## end of export maps & scraps selection ############### The map numbers look a little odd. The map altitudes highlighted in green are composed of the three scraps below them, and by eye they look credible. I’m not sure about the numbers in yellow. The overall map in this example is composed of eight submaps and the reported altitude of 771.64 m is about 2 m above the highest passage. The map includes passage between 550 m and 769 m, and so by eye the average altitude reported should be 660 m. There is also the mystery of the unnamed scrap at 1429.78 m. I don’t know what it is referring to. The highest passage in the system is at 769 m. Elevation maps and scraps are all reported with zero height, which I guess is OK. The original idea was to get a feeling for stacking order, which I guess might sometimes be a concern for elevations. Perhaps a way to report the stacking order would be to replace the real number used for plan scrap altitudes with an integer for elevation scrap stacking order (say zero or 1 is at the bottom). Just an idea, I don’t feel a particular need for it. It was not calculated, because it was not needed for map generation. Added it in the latest commit. S. On Sat, 23 Jan 2021 at 19:20, Bruce Mutton <bruce(a)tomo.co.nz <mailto:bruce@tomo.co.nz> > wrote: Hi Stacho I mostly get -8999 etc for my maps (not near my computer so cannot be specific on the circumstances) especially where maps are composed of surveys rather than scraps. I'm using Windows 10. I was a little perplexed that the map altitudes are undefined. Shouldn't the second level maps just be a weighted average of the component maps, scraps or surveys? I will try the latest commit in a few days time. Bruce Sent from my Galaxy

trouble with warped sketches drawing in the wrong place
by Jonny Prouty 03 Feb '21

03 Feb '21

Hello all, I've been having some trouble with warped sketches lately that has me puzzled. All of the sketches are offset from the generated map, but the offset varies from scrap to scrap. Furthermore, the offset is applied before the sketches are morphed, as the sketches are clearly being deformed differently than the walls, even though they should be identical. I should note that I am not applying any specific offsets to any portions of the map, which consist of only a single scrap. Any ideas are much appreciated! th and thconfig files are after the screenshots. Thanks very much in advance!!
