Loch/Therion new user
by Giorgio Pannuzzo 25 Sep '09

25 Sep '09

I'm a new Therion/Loch user and I wish to learn something about them because I'm really interested about their great advantages and technical approach. A this stage I'm just playing with the programs using my old datasets, facing the lack (or difficulty to find) of several useful features. Occasionally I also found some bugs (using "infer equates on" command). Wishes: 1- A GUI command in Loch to set on/off on-the-fly the "Vertical Prism" feature (in CaveX slang). Really useful for the rendering of old (E.G. compass.plt) datasets, collected by traditional LRUD usage. As I understand, the vthreshold command can't be set to "off" even in Therion Options. 2- An "Export" option in Loch to create .th files from other format 3d Datasets imported (E.G. compass.plt). If I'm not wrong, the standard Therion's "import" command looses LRUD data. 3- More bitmap formats available for surface (ECW-TIF etc.) and the ability to use OziExplorer's ".map" georeferencing. 4- lots of other things I'm thinking around, leave them for next posts. Sorry for my poor english and thanks for your great work. Have a nice day. Giorgio Pannuzzo Italy -- Caselle da 1GB, trasmetti allegati fino a 3GB e in piu' IMAP, POP3 e SMTP autenticato? Bug in Loch Viewer 5.2.11 not showing passages with LRUD data from Survex 3d files
by Footleg 25 Sep '09

25 Sep '09

I have found that the latest development build of the Loch viewer does not display all the centrelines in my Survex 3d file. It looks like it is the centrelines which have LRUD data, plus legs attached to these. If I show walls then these are rendered, so only the attached legs are missing. But if I hide walls then all the passages with walls data disappear completely. See attached comparision screenshots from 5.2 and 5.2.11 with and without the walls shown. Footleg

ESRI output
by Dave Clucas 15 Sep '09

15 Sep '09

I have been trying out the ESRI model and see that it only exports shots, stations and walls. I would like to use the areas, particularly areas of subtype water in order to create an underground river shape file. Could you put this on your TODO list please. seperate layers for surface and sketch images
by Bruce Mutton 15 Sep '09

15 Sep '09

Hi again Getting back to the task of including our existing paper maps in our Therion datasets. We have a large cave, with the existing plans comprising more than 5 overlapping sheets, representing differing regions and levels of the cave. Is any progress planned on separating the sketches from the surface layer in pdf outputs? If so I'd like to put in a request for each sketch to have it's own unique layer, and to support the transparency feature already implemented for passages and the surface. Are there any issues related to this (other than large run durations and file sizes)? Bruce

Hi, two things: First, there is a newline print missing in thattr::export_kml: --- thattr.cxx.orig 2008-12-04 09:25:36.000000000 +0100 +++ thattr.cxx 2009-08-29 11:07:03.000000000 +0200 @@ -624,6 +624,7 @@ fprintf(f,"%s%s",hasone ? "\t" : "",value); hasone = true; } + fprintf(f,"\n"); } Second: Why is export_kml acutally the same as export_txt, but with extra lat-long columns? I found this while looking for a way to export cave-list with lat-long entrance coordinates, what seems not to be possible (no -layout-cs supported for export cave-list). Regards, Thomas

Colored Lines Based On Attributes
by Carl Magnuson 14 Sep '09

14 Sep '09

I am attempting to color the walls of different systems with different colors using the -attr flag and a user defined wall: portion of code in scrap: line u:wall -attr color "(0.1, 0.2, 0.8);" 1392.9359853260457 -71.62435442682576 1395.5759853260456 125.20564557317425 endline portion of code in layout: def l_u_wall (expr P)= T:=identity; if known(ATTR__color): pickup PenA; draw P withpen PenA withcolor ATTR__color\n fi; enddef; initsymbol(\"l_u_wall\"); I am not having any success however. Is it possible to set and read attributes from lines as I am trying to do? Is somebody aware of an alternate way to pass in a color argument to the metapost definition (instead of defining separate walls for each different colored system)? Thanks, Carl

How to see a bitmap on a surface grid
by Footleg 09 Sep '09

09 Sep '09

I am trying to create a surface model with a bitmap overlaid on it. Using a 600 x 600 pixel bitmap file, I have done the following based on an example found in the mailing list archive: survey Surface -title "Test Surface Image" surface bitmap bitmap.jpg [0 0 45000 32000 600 600 46000 33000] grid-units meter grid 45000 32000 100 100 10 10 grid-flip none #(none)/vertical/horizontal 730 730 725 700 715 710 715 700 660 640 740 740 710 710 760 760 720 675 660 630 760 750 720 720 765 700 685 670 695 670 740 750 730 750 735 700 690 695 730 720 735 750 755 780 775 720 740 730 760 740 760 760 760 760 740 735 765 760 750 710 780 775 770 755 740 730 780 775 755 745 800 790 770 785 775 755 755 780 775 765 800 795 785 825 800 760 755 780 800 780 815 805 800 840 805 775 765 780 810 800 endsurface endsurvey Surface I get a surface model, but in the Loch viewer I only see a grey surface. If I comment out the bitmap line then I get the same model, but the file size of the lox file is much smaller. So my bitmap must be being included, but it is not visible. What am I missing? Footleg

Therion Features Wiki page
by Bruce 02 Sep '09

02 Sep '09

Thanks to whoever put together the wiki page summarising Therions general features. http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php?id=skillen One of the biggest challenges I had getting started was figuring out exactly what it could do and which features applied to precisely what outputs. I figured many out by trial and error, however I still have uncertainties in this regard after using it for two years. At last this concise summary cleared a few more of these up, at least with regard to the authors' intentions. Good work and thanks. Bruce
